Nothing is set in stone for the Chargers, but their top executive is now on record saying that he is closer to leaving than staying. Before yesterday’s game, Chargers chairman Dean Spanos told CBS’ Scott Kaplan he is leaning toward moving to Los Angeles.

“I said I was not going to make up my mind until after the season,” Spanos said when asked about his comments (link via Kevin Acee of U-T San Diego). “He asked the question, ‘Are you closer to leaving than staying?’ I said, ‘That would probably be an accurate statement.’ I also said I’m not going to make up my mind until after the season. … Everything is in place. I’m waiting on the city of San Diego.”
Spanos also added that the team would have stayed in San Diego had Measure C – a proposal to give the Chargers a great deal of public funds – received 50% of the vote. We won’t know about the fate of the Chargers until the spring, but it sounds like they are likely to bolt about 120 miles north.
If they bolt to LA they lose a fan right here. I am a San Diego Chargers fan. They leave SD they will be as hated as the raiders are.
Which team would you then root for? Or would you become a football widow?
My parents grew up in buffalo so I grew up watching San Diego and Buffalo. I may end up rooting for Buffalo but more than likely I will say screw the NFL and just watch college
Lol they have little support in San Diego and will have even less in LA.
I was really hoping they would get something figured out so my Raiders could be the team to come back down to LA…at least then there would be a team worth rooting for in that new monstrosity of stadium
The Vote was rigged from the get go when they didn’t allow the “County” of San Diego vote on Measure C, knowing that is primarily where there fan base comes from…
If they truly want a stadium plan to go through they should allow their entire fan base a voice both City AND County of San Diego!
My feelings exactly!!!!!!!
Spanos is a joke…we all know that already. Now let’s start looking at these nameless leaks every Sunday- posturing…Deano saying he is leaning towards LA now- ahhhh, what do you call the Carson attempt? This isn’t new, but Stan doesn’t want to share and the Bolts brand is only worth a damn in SD market.
Go ahead and leave, take your poorly run franchise, just leave the Chargers name and logo in San Diego where it belongs.
Last thought Jerry Jones, Goddell and Kronke all want Spanos in SD, that’s where they’ll be. This is an NFL power broker decision. Sick of it. We all are
If only Dean cared as much for the team as his Dad did not only would there be no doubt the team would be staying here but Telesco wouldn’t be here and McCoy would be long gone!!!
After yesterday’s game wit more raiders fans chargers I think it’s time to leave
Phillip rivers had to go with a silent count in his home park
Charger fans are a joke and this is coming from 49ers fan!
Ok enough with the more Raiders than Chargers fans talk. The Chargers suck this year. Injuries and ill-timed turnovers have ruined the season. The Raiders are having their best season since 2002 and clinched their first playoff birth since then. Of course the Oakland fans would be up for a trip to beautiful San Diego for a momentous moment.
I’ve been a Chargers fan since I lived in Escondido for a few years as a child. We’ve had some great years, some terrible ones and everything in between. But it always felt nice knowing it was San Diego’s bolts. Now living in Memphis, i can say if the Chargers move to LA I’ll wish them all the luck in the world but I’ll probably be changing my alliances. The team looks pretty stacked with young talent for next season if everyone can stay healthy. The offense looks exciting with Gordon, Keenan Allen, Henry and Bolts, Benjamin, Williams, and Inman.
Defense with Perryman and Ingram. Hayward with a healthy Verett. Bosa and Teo.
Hmmm on second thought maybe I’ll stick around
Too bad, but I’m not surprised. Just getting a new stadium will not help the Chargers. As ownership could care less about the team and fans, they only care about themselves that’s the Spanos way.
Go back to selling cheap apartments and baloney sandwiches!
Gotta love billionaires crying about a city not funding their stadium.
I’m getting tired of people saying that they will no longer root for the Chargers if they leave San Diego. It you’re a real fan then you would stick to the team regardless of where they play. People are acting like they’re moving half way across the country.
I am a fan of the San Diego Chargers I hate everything LA so why would I root for them if they became the LA Chargers. You can still root for them if you like but I will not.
What is they rebrand as the Southern California Chargers? Would that remove some of the anti l.a. Rub? San Diego hadn’t been very forthcoming on working with the Chargers and that’s their right. The Chargers also have the right to move if they feel this processing is taking too long and the L.A. Deal is sweet enough.
