Watt, a former third-round pick, will miss the first six weeks of the season before being eligible to return to the field. The 26-year-old has started eight games during his first two years in the league, but with free agent signee Matt Slauson poised to start at center, Watt will merely serve as depth unless an injury strikes.

Minor NFL Transactions: 8/25/16

Thursday’s minor moves from around the NFL:

  • The Vikings announced that they have waived cornerback Melvin White, whom they inked to a reserve/future contract in January. White signed with the Panthers in 2013 as an undrafted free agent from Louisiana-Lafayette and went on to appear in 30 games with the club. The last time he saw action, 2014, White made seven starts in 15 appearances and picked up 36 tackles and an interception. The 26-year-old has 17 starts, 83 tackles and three picks on his resume.
  • The Chargers announced they’ve waived/injured outside linebacker Tyler Marcordes and signed center Bruce Johnson. Marcordes went undrafted out of Georgia this year before signing with the Bolts. Johnson – undrafted from Maine this year – spent three-plus months with the Eagles, who cut him Sunday.

Here are today’s minor moves:

  • The Colts announced that they’ve signed free agent offensive linemen Eric Herman and Keith Lumpkin, while waiving guard Donovan Williams and waiving/injured tackle Kevin Graf. If Graf clears waivers, he’ll revert to Indy’s injured reserve list.
  • The Patriots have waived safety Cedric Thompson, as his agent David Canter tweets. New England signed Thompson to a futures deal in January.
  • The Buccaneers have reached an injury settlement with safety Elijah Shumate, according to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times (Twitter link). As such, Shumate has been removed from Tampa’s IR injured reserve list.

Earlier updates

  • The Browns have signed WR Josh Boyce, whom New England selected in the fourth round of the 2013 draft, and waived/injured 2016 UDFA Dennis Parks, as Nate Ulrich of The Akron Beacon Journal reports. Boyce spent most of this year with the Colts before he was waived on August 16. He has nine catches for 121 yards in his professional career.

Minor Moves: Bruce Johnson

We have a minor transaction to pass along this morning, and as the day goes on, we will add any other minor moves to the top of this page. We classify minor moves as free agents accepting contract tenders, notable CFL signings, and signings and cuts involving players who haven’t seen much or any NFL action lately.

  • Former Giants and Texans CB Bruce Johnson has signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL, tweets ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan. The former Miami Hurricane, who was signed by the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2009, had an intriguing start to his career. In 2009, he started five games, appeared in all 16, and logged two interceptions (including a pick-six) and a sack. However, he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in 2010 and was never able to get back on track. He will now try to revive his career in Canada.
