Garrett McIntyre

Workout Notes: Thursday

The Panthers, still somehow right in the thick of things in the NFC South race, took advantage of their bye week to bring in a number of players for auditions yesterday. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that Carolina worked out the following players: Austin Pettis (WR), Uzoma Nwachukwu (WR), Zach Bauman (RB), Toben Opurum (RB), Brad Sorensen (QB), M.D. Jennings (DB), Kimario McFadden (DB), Anthony Walters (DB), and Lou Young (DB). Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun adds one more name to the list, tweeting that wide receiver Michael Preston also visited the team.

Wilson has details on several more tryouts for free agent players this week, so let’s round up his updates (all links go to Twitter):

A few notable cuts by the Jets had already been reported today, with players like cornerback Dimitri Patterson and wide receiver Stephen Hill being cut loose by Rex Ryan‘s club. We rounded the team’s first 11 cuts in a pair of posts earlier today, but here, via a team press release, are the remaining 11 roster moves:

Jets Re-Sign Garrett McIntyre

THURSDAY, 3:45pm: McIntyre’s one-year deal is worth the minimum, tweets Rich Cimini of ESPN New York.

WEDNESDAY, 3:36pm: The Jets have re-signed outside linebacker Garrett McIntyre, according to Eric Allen of NewYorkJets.com (via Twitter). McIntyre, who has spent the last three seasons with the Jets, had been an unrestricted free agent.

While he hasn’t seen significant playing time in New York over the last three years, McIntyre has been an important depth piece and has started a handful of games in each season. Last season, the 29-year-old played in 271 defensive snaps and recorded a pair of sacks. He was also a contributor on special teams, on both kick and punt coverage.
