Thanks to the Rams’ season-opening debacle on Monday, head coach Jeff Fisher‘s future with the team looks less certain. Fisher and owner Stan Kroenke met after the Rams’ 28-0 loss to the 49ers, according to Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole, who adds that the contract extension Fisher was supposed to receive isn’t in play at the moment (video link).
Various reports since the winter have stated that Fisher and general manager Les Snead, both of whom are in contract years, are likely to sign new deals. Fisher took over the Rams’ sideline in 2012 and is among the NFL’s highest-paid coaches at $7MM, but the former Titans boss hasn’t produced positive results with his current organization. Under Fisher, the Rams have gone 27-37-1 in four-plus years and haven’t exceeded seven wins in an individual campaign, thereby stretching their streak of non-playoff seasons to 12. The way the Rams looked Monday, the newly minted Los Angeles team is on its way to No. 13.
One major problem for the Rams in Week 1 was the performance of quarterback Case Keenum, who completed 17 of 35 passes for 130 yards and two interceptions against a San Francisco club that went 5-11 a year ago. Fisher will go forth with Keenum for the time being, but other coaches on the Rams’ staff feel first overall pick Jared Goff gives them a better chance to win, per Cole (video link).
Keenum beat out both Goff and Sean Mannion for the starting role over the summer, making Goff the first QB to go No. 1 and not start his team’s opener since the Raiders’ JaMarcus Russell in 2007. Worsening matters, Goff didn’t show enough progress during training camp and the preseason to even earn a spot on the Rams’ active roster Monday, but the ex-Cal standout could suit up as a reserve against the Seahawks in their LA opener this week.
To acquire the pick with which he chose Goff, Snead surrendered several valuable selections – including first-rounders in 2016 and 2017 and multiple second-rounders – to the Titans. If Goff doesn’t take the field this year and at least show flashes of a player who was worth that type of haul, then, it stands to reason Snead could join Fisher on the the hot seat. The Rams looked like the worst team in the league in Week 1, and that’s particularly troubling for a franchise that’s not in possession of its own first-rounder in next year’s draft.

Everyone wants fisher fired but there is no one available who will sign with them that can do any better than fisher. His first year he made a 2 win team a 7 win team. 2 other season he lost his QB and won 6-7 games each(not many coaches can still do that with a young roster). The problem is play calling and o-line. They drafted lineman to fix the issues and are working on developing them. Not every problem is fixed in one season. They were feared by no one and respected by no one before fisher showed up. Super bowl is the goal but if u fire fisher you can kiss our chances goodbye for 3 years. By then all the stars and quality starters will have left in free agency. Remember Jason brown? Adam Carriker ? Ty Hill? The days of drafting like the Browns are through. Fisher and Snead have been building a solid team for five years. Fisher may only have 6 winning seasons but he also has only 3 seasons winning fewer than 6 games. That shows he’s always in the mix for playoffs and is a few lucky breaks away from winning seasons. #don’talwaysblamethecoach #patience
You do realize that when the Rams lose there 10th this year Jeff Fisher will have lost the most games in NFL history as a head coach. Also you said he’s had 6 winning seasons, it’s pretty easy to have 6 winning seasons when you’ve been a head coach for over 20 years. So 30% of the time he has a winning record, that’s horrible. Fisher needs to go he has consistently proven with the Rams he can’t win games.
But look at the rosters he has been with
The GM should be supplying depth, looking at waiver wires, CFL, Arena Football, UDFA, Free agents to add depth and then the coaches actually coach up the players. All other teams and organizations are doing it. Next Man Up! Most of Seattle players are UDFA or low draft picks. They have depth because they have a good GM that actually does his job and looks under rocks to find depth. Fisher and Snead need to be fired. They’ve been given more than enough time to fix this on going problem. I don’t know if they’re just lazy or incompetent. Goff is not ready. This O-line has numerous high draft picks, unprepared. I don’t know how they last this long.
Kronke is the worst Owner in sports and he will soon fund out that LA Rams fans will not show up to a team that is horrible and will be horrible for years! Rams will be lucky to win 6 games all year and Fisher is the most overrated Coach in NFL History!
NFL is a results driven business. That’s what is amazing is they have stayed with him for so long. I saw Hard Knocks seems like a good guy and sure he is liked by the owner. But at some point you got to win.
Please DO NOT EXTEND FISHER OR SNEAD!!!! The team is uninspired! The gameplan is uninspiring! The players have given up on the coaches and front office, and imagine, this is the first year back in LA. PLEASE DO NOT EXTEND THIS COACH OR GM! THEY NEED TO BE FIRED! They need a new coach that knows how to use the weapons correctly. Offense is still vanilla, but this isn’t the preseason anymore. It’s like they’re trying to tank, but forgot that we traded next years picks to trade up for Goff.
