The Dolphins have signed linebacker Lawrence Timmons to a two-year, $12MM deal ($11MM guaranteed), reports ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter (via Twitter). The 10-year veteran met with the organization earlier today.
Timmons had only played for the Steelers since being selected in the first round of the 2007 draft, but we heard rumblings earlier this offseason that the veteran was likely to test free agency. Despite his age (31 in May), we ranked Timmons as the fifth-best available linebacker behind Dont’a Hightower, Zach Brown, Kevin Minter, and Perry Riley, so there was good reason for the player to secure another payday.
The 2014 second-team All-Pro had another solid season this year, compiling 114 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two interceptions. The veteran had started every regular season game for the Steelers since 2011, and he hasn’t missed a game since 2009.
Timmons will be joining a Dolphins team that is only rostering four linebackers in Koa Misi, Mike Hull, Neville Hewitt, and Trevor Reilly.

Lord knows, the Dolphins need LB help. They’re doing well with being selective on FA’s and keeping their own talent this offseason.

They should draft a LB this year. Williams can start, but he’s a downgrade from Timmons.

You realize Timmins was a DE in college and started as an OLB for the steelers his first few years? He moved to the inside due to the need of the team. The guy can either position well, lost some of his speed but still a really good player.

Timmons could have played one or two more effective years in Pittsburgh, but instead will go down to the beach and try to learn a new system and will probably be Mike Wallace Part Two.
I’m sorry but I think it’s hilarious that you have these other linebackers rated above Lawrence Timmons 16 games a year under tackles I don’t see one of these guys that has either played 16 games or even seeing 100 tackles please give me a break
