Dolphins Sign Lawrence Timmons

The Dolphins have signed linebacker Lawrence Timmons to a two-year, $12MM deal ($11MM guaranteed), reports ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter (via Twitter). The 10-year veteran met with the organization earlier today.

Lawrence Timmons (vertical)Timmons had only played for the Steelers since being selected in the first round of the 2007 draft, but we heard rumblings earlier this offseason that the veteran was likely to test free agency. Despite his age (31 in May), we ranked Timmons as the fifth-best available linebacker behind Dont’a HightowerZach BrownKevin Minter, and Perry Riley, so there was good reason for the player to secure another payday.

The 2014 second-team All-Pro had another solid season this year, compiling 114 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two interceptions. The veteran had started every regular season game for the Steelers since 2011, and he hasn’t missed a game since 2009.

Timmons will be joining a Dolphins team that is only rostering four linebackers in Koa Misi, Mike HullNeville Hewitt, and Trevor Reilly.
