It sounds like Greg Schiano is on his way back to the Patriots. Schiano is likely to join the Patriots in a top defensive role, sources tell James Palmer and Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (Twitter link). 
Once the deal is completed, Schiano will be stepping into the position left open by Brian Flores‘ forthcoming defection to the Dolphins. Flores was the Patriots’ de facto defensive coordinator and Schiano is expected to become the team’s new defensive chief. It remains to be seen whether Schiano will formally be given the DC title, however.
Schiano’s first made a name for himself at Rutgers, taking the program from a laughing stock to a bowl game contender. Most recently, he served as Ohio State’s defensive coordinator. Along the way, Schiano built a close relationship with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and formed a pipeline that led RU players such as Devin McCourty, Duron Harmon, and Logan Ryan to New England.
Around this time year, it was rumored that Schiano would be leaving OSU to join the Pats’ staff, but that ultimately did not happen. With that in mind, this could be a fluid situation worth monitoring.

I do not like this hire at all, Ohio st’s defense was horrible and cost them a spot in the playoffs. 31 points to a 2 win Oregon st, 49 to Purdue, 31 to Nebraska, 51 to Maryland. It gets even worse if you look at where they rank compared to other schools. This seems like a move in the opposite direction
Yes, but he also gets to work with BB. Bill is one of the greatest defensive minds ever. Did well defensively versus Walsh’s west coast, greatest show on turf, manning, Steelers, this season’s Chiefs.
Wait you want to say BB did a great job vs the Chiefs this year with his defense? Just because they won?

32 yards no points in the first half
Ok you want to say Brady is the reason they won, I agree. Can’t you easily say the first year QB is why the Chiefs sucked in the first half? 290 yards big deal. They gave up 71 points in 2 games. Yep they won but it wasn’t because BB was masterful in those games. KC gets the ball to start the OT they likely win. But they didn’t and the Pats won. Kudos to them, they deserve it.
So if the first year QB (Mahomes) sucked, wouldn’t that be because of the Patriots defense? I mean aside from the bad sacks he took, Mahomes was decent. Sure it wasn’t what we’re use to, but the Chiefs offense barely did anything not because of Mahomes, but because the Patriots dominated time of possession. I don’t think any of us here are calling the Patriots an elite defense or even a good one. But its an average defense and gets the job done (most of the time). Sure they gave up 71 points in two games, but they still won right? You can’t just look at points as the biggest factor for determining whether or not a defense is good (although it is a big part). Yards allowed, turnovers, sacks, etc are just as important.
Where do you get 71 from? No matter how I do the math I come up with 59 in the last two games.
I mean the Patriots held the Chiefs to 290 total yards and held Kelce and Hill to 4 receptions for 65 yards in the AFC championship game. Sounds pretty good to me. Granted they got torched in the regular season (and still won) but pretty much every defense got torched by the Chiefs this year.
Shutting out the Chiefs in the first half is why the pats won. Second half adjustments made by Reid is why the Chiefs scored. And ultimately Brady is why the pats won.
Tjeck , I bleed my Pats. Some would say bordering on unhealthy. I.e. broken furniture etc. Imho I like to think I have a little bit of grasp on most things Patriots. I’m also not a BSer so I’m not gonna try to convince anyone that in my heart I expected this outcome. Mostly imo due to their D. That being said I’m fairly certain you didn’t do any bit of research before you made such a statement. Yes alot of what we are talking about could be perspective and opinions. But there are also numbers involved. I’m in no way saying the Pats D completely shut them down. Obviously Reid , Mahomes and friends made some great adjustments at the half of both games and proceeded to do what KC does. But considering the monster offense that KC has shown all year how can you not give the Pats D (as a unit , players , coaches etc.) the credit they deserve? 0 points in the first half of the AFC championship , 9 points in the first half of the week 6 game along with 2 picks . 290 total yrds allowed including 4 sacks in the AFC cg. I’m pretty sure we can count on 1 hand how many times we heard the names Hill or Kelce. Yes KC was still KC in both games. If before the game I were to tell you that Brady was gonna throw 2 picks (1 on KCs 1 yrd line) in a game vs the Powerhouse Chiefs in Arrowhead stadium would you think for one second that NE would come away with the win? Defense had to play well.

Eh, I wouldn’t say Eli has BB’s number. Eli is the beneficiary of some outstanding plays made by his teammates.
Can’t you say the same for Brady on Sunday? Couple incredible catches helped them to the win. Pats are an amazing team.

I have to disagree with you. You’re talking about college kids, most of them will never get close to the NFL. I like this hire, a lot! RU doesn’t have the recruiting edge that schools like Alabama and Clemson have. At RU he was coaching kids who would have never made a team like AL or other high profile schools with top recruiters. Those schools have more to offer than RU has.
At Clemson he was coaching kids that would never be considered for a high profile team like Al or Clemson. There’s a big difference between Pro FB players and second rate college kids. This will be a great move by the Pats.
He’s good at cover-ups so he should fit right in.

I believe this hire will pay dividends for the Patriots. GS is a very gifted coach. At RU he was coaching kids that would have had no chance to make a high profile team like AL or Clemson. With the Pats he’ll be coaching pro FB players, there’s a big difference. Most of the players at RU will never get a chance to play pro FB.
With GS joining the Pats staff they will be a better team. I will NOT miss Flores. He made a big mistake by leaving. He’s NOT ready to be a HC.
