The Giants are interested in trading for Cardinals’ QB Josh Rosen, per Dan Graziano of ESPN.com. However, they are unsure as to whether Arizona will actually make him available.
It is unclear exactly how acquiring Rosen would impact the status of Eli Manning, but both Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.tv and Graziano report that the current plan is to keep Manning in 2019, the last year of his present contract. We had been hearing that for some time, of course, but New York’s decision to trade Odell Beckham Jr. to the Browns last night sparked a new wave of speculation that the team could also look to move on from Manning.
That speculation was fueled by the fact that Manning is due a $5MM roster bonus on Saturday — which the Giants could avoid if they cut Manning before that point — and the fact that the team is clearly embracing a full-blown rebuild. But Manning is the best option that New York has, and it’s not as though there is currently a long-term answer on the roster whose development is being hindered by Manning’s presence.
Big Blue did not select one of the best quarterbacks available in a loaded class last year, and the club may not take a first-round signal-caller this year. Although the Giants will do their due diligence on Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins, they may have their eye on next year’s more heralded prospects.
The Cardinals, meanwhile, have been heavily linked to Murray, and there have been plenty of rumors that the club would be willing to trade Rosen and make Murray the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 draft. Indeed, we heard a little over a week ago that Murray to the Cardinals was a “done deal.” That may or may not be true, but we recently learned that multiple teams have inquired on Rosen, and the Giants may be one of those teams.

Murray’s throws in his Pro Day as compared to Haskins at the combine exposed the fact that Murray has the better arm, quick release, and can make every throw…..Haskins is not very athletic, apocket passer like Eli, with 14 games of experience in college….too bad Murray is a tad small for the Giants liking…..better to pass up Haskins and Murray and either trade for Rosen, or wait until next year and stock up on other team “needs”. Haskins could be a one hit wonder.
They can trade a lesser pick for Rosen plus not have to pay him the first round bonus money. Just the salary on the rookie deal.
Josh Rosen is a year ahead in development and if they can get him for a 2nd round pick they can draft Defense and WR with their two 1st round picks. It could be the better option than playing a rookie QB. I would cut Manning in a heartbeat. He is awful.

Idk about sending a first, but they could definitely make a decent package now. I personally prefer Rosen to the prospect QBs. They’ve already upgraded their OL decently. This would give them an opportunity to use their first rounders on defense or receiver.

Rosen was the 3rd or 4th best QB available last year, all went in the 1st round. If they can get Rosen for a 2nd rounder, pull the trigger, and let him do his thing once Eli shows his “deep ball” is a 15 yard throw. Use the 6th pick for the most dominant player available, regardless of position.

Snacks is a great run stopper but they weren’t using him half the snaps in their scheme. Plus was not great in the locker room. Collins also did not fit their scheme, and very costly as you saw what Washington gave him.

Almost every team takes backup clipboard holders that never amount to anything in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th round. Some take them in the 2nd (Jets).

Gannon was drafted by the Pats to be a WR but balked at the idea, got traded to the Vikes and still took a decade or more to develop. Staubach had a four- or five-year commitment to the Navy that he had to fulfill. Theismann wasn’t drafted to be a starter but to back up Bob Griese; he didn’t get a chance to start in the NFL until he had made an impact in the WFL. Cousins was drafted to be a back-up and maybe a challenger to RG3. Unitas was cut by the Steelers before he became the GOAT for the Colts.
You don’t DRAFT a guy in the fourth round to be your franchise QB, but you could get insanely lucky if your fourth rounder or later draft pick becomes your franchise QB.

Don’t ever use Tom Brady in the same breath as any other QB drafted after the 1st or 2nd round. Brady wasn’t even a starter at Michigan and he was skinny as heck. He fit that system perfectly and developed by BB, gained strength and was a jewel that is rarity. It happens, just like Tony Romo being undrafted. However, flukes are not the norm. More QB’s wash out after a few years drafted after the 4th round then with any other position. Most drafted after the 4th round are emergency QB’s, they never develop and if a team gets lucky, they trade him for a higher draft choice on the IF/COME.

Johnny Unitas was the 4th QB taken.

If Eli weren’t as slow as a volcano flow, you could imagine some deal where Eli was swapped for Rosen with other pieces involved. Eli wouldn’t help develop Murray at all, though.

Probably could’ve traded OBJ for Rosen
If 5 or 6 teams have inquired about Rosen, it’s going to cost a first round pick to get him. If Rosen was in this year’s draft, he’d be the 2nd QB drafted, so he’s easily worth a mid first round pick. I could see Miami giving up their pick for Rosen, or perhaps even New England giving up #32 overall to get Brady’s successor. So if the Giants are serious about this, they should be prepared to give up their #17 overall pick and even that may not be enough if Miami gets involved.
I think Miami is looking to the 2020 QB class before going after Josh Rosen to basically fill in for a year, which is why they were looking at guys like Tyrod and Teddy B. The Pats have given up first round picks in the last but I doubt they would give it up to a guy that would sit behind Brady for a couple years instead of using it for a guy who can help them now. A second or a third is more realistic because of the depth at QB in next years draft and how most teams are willing to wait for next year, and because of the depth at defense in this years draft and how many teams will likely be drafting defense over offense in the draft.
Haha there’s zero chance Rosen nets a first round pick from anyone… five or six teams are interested in a lot of guys that don’t bring back 1st rounders… that’s why there are so many teams interested, because he won’t. In fact, I’d suggest he doesn’t bring anything better than #40.
Don’t be so sure. Teams over pay for a QB all the time. I think if anyone pony’s up a late first round pick or a 2nd and a 5th round pick, they can get him. However, I would not be shocked for the Giants to screw up and give them a high first round pick and take a 3rd or 4th round back. Teams can get creative with giving a 1st rounder if they get a mid round pick back.
Haha no way not happening. There are QBs available in the draft that approximate Rosen, you’d have to be really high on Rosen in particular. Plus you don’t get what you paid for him in the draft the year after you drafted once you decide you’d rather have someone else.
I was thinking a 2nd round 2020 and a 6th round 2019 from Minnesota in trade for Rosen. Cousins is out in 2.
It wouldn’t shock me if AZ saying they’re dead set on taking Murray was a ploy to get someone to pay more to trade up with them. A team that wants Murray can’t trade up to #2 to take him… making such a team deal with the Cards. To sell that, they would have to at least say Rosen is available.

I agree. It could all be smoke and mirrors to get someone to trade up for him. However, if they are SOLD on him and he looked good today at his pro day, then AZ will trade Rosen. If I was AZ, I would trade Rosen to a desperate Giant team who has until Saturday to cut Manning or pay him a 5 million guarantee. This is leverage for AZ so lets see what happens by Saturday.

If Rosen couldn’t accomplish anything with all world Larry Fitzgerald as a weapon how is he going to succeed with a Beckhamless Giants offense? Gettleman has botched things so bad now he might as well go out and sign Blake Bortles.
Well, a running game that averaged 3.8 yards a carry and a pretty crappy receiving corps outside of Fitzgerald and one of the two or three worst offensive lines in the league doesn’t help. The Giants have supposedly improved their OL for 2019, and that should help a lot.
