Redskins Hire Rob Ryan

The Redskins hired longtime defensive coordinator Rob Ryan as their new inside linebackers coach, according to a team announcement. Ryan last served as the Bills’ assistant head coach (defense) in 2016 and is now set to enter his 20th season as an NFL coach.

Before hooking on with the Bills, Ryan served as the DC for the Saints (2013-15), Cowboys (2011-12), Browns (2009-10) and Raiders (2004-08). He found success with the Saints early on, leading their defensive unit to Top 5 rankings in points allowed and passing defense in 2013. Things unraveled a bit afterwards, but Ryan remains a respected defensive mind.

Clearly, the ILB coach role is a step down from where Ryan has been in the past, but this could be an opportunity for him to springboard into a larger role. For now, he’ll work under Greg Manusky, who was retained as DC after some flirtations with outside candidates this offseason.

oy, I didnt realize there were inside and outside linebacker coaches. i just thought it was a linebacker coach.

A lot of teams seem to be splitting up some of the traditional position coaching duties. Having 2 linebacker coaches, or 2 secondary coaches (cornerbacks/safeties) seems to be becoming the norm rather than the exception now.

I think somebody should ask him to suit up and pay a few downs…

Play? He doesn’t look like he’d be able to run from the sideline to the huddle without falling out of the offense already running the play.

I just want to see what they’d have to do to tailor a uniform to him!

Crocs and sweatpants, he can usually be seen spotted at Walmart navigating the snack section in one of those jazzy scooters.

One day sooner than you think there will be 22 offensive and 22 defensive coaches on NFL teams…..

Remember him with Dallas “we line up against better WRs in practice” when asked about covering Calvin Johnson.

3 TDs later and one in triple coverage his hair got geven grayer.

Dad was a great DC, but absolutely horrible as a HC, how he never won 1 playoff game with all that talent in Philly is still a mystery.

How his Philly defenses finished in the top 10 in point allowed only once in five years is what astounds me. Well, that and his being fired after three straight double-digit wins and playoff seasons. What were those idiots thinking?

Since Sons of Anarchy has been cancelled this slob no longer has a job as an extra…

Hey, but there is a whole new generation waiting to embrace a “Tastes great/less filling” superstar.

They couldn’t have found a more flattering photo to use? I feel bad for the short he’s wearing.

Is he going to bring on his brother Ryan Ryan as a quality control coach?

As a Giants fan, I looked love this hire. More disfunction around another NFC East team. Gonna be fun. I hope that the Redskins appear on Hard Knocks. Woo hoo.

Somewhere Reuben Foster is asking his agent “Is there any way I can get those charges reinstated?”
