Browns Might Not Hire OC

The Browns are without an offensive coordinator, and it might stay that way. This week, new head coach Kevin Stefanski said it “remains to be seen” whether they’ll hire an OC for the 2020 season.

I’m committed to adding the right people to our building,” Stefanski said (via Ben Axelrod of “That remains to be seen. We’re definitely looking at all avenues as we try to put a really good staff together.”

The Browns have spoken to former Broncos offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello, but it’s not clear if he’s being looked at for the OC role. Meanwhile, Stefanski might want to control the headset himself, and he has the experience of new offensive line coach Bill Callahan to advise him during his first season at the helm. In light of that, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Stefanski go without an OC.

On the other side of the ball, the Browns are expected to hire 49ers defensive backs coach Joe Woods after the Super Bowl.

Guy needed someone to watch over him in Minnesota (and still ran a mediocre offense) but yet they don’t think he should have a guy to talk things out with. Seems like a bad idea.

considering kitchens was the OC last year I agree he needs that second voice for him

I’m a Vikings fan and watched every one of their games, and the offensive scheme was mediocre at best. I’m happy you guys took Stefanski.

Wins against quality opponents. Putting up great numbers against scrub teams doesn’t mean much when your offense is outcoached and outplayed in every big game other than the Saints game (which still didn’t look great). Browns need a guy that can outcoach Tomlin and out score Lamar Jackson and nothing in his tenure with the Vikings gives me any faith Stefanski is the guy. I’m very happy you guys took him and Kubiak has taken over.

I’m glad you’re not a Browns fan. No faith whatsoever, that a coach can learn and grow from experience.

Browns might not what? If you’re gonna insert a comma, finish your thought before you move on.

Hue Jackson didn’t have an OC and went 1-31… just bring someone in, don’t be dumb.

This is a recipe for another failed coaching hire by Jimmy Haslam

Leave it to Jimmy to have a recipe after burning down the Kitchen.

Makes sense … why hire a coordinator for something your team doesn’t have?

Anyone ever hire a Futility Coordinator?

To paraphrase: “A Head Coach who also functions as the Offensive Coordinator has a fool for the OC Position.”

    • sufferfortribe

I have never heard that in any way, shape, or form. The only close to it is the similar quote about people representing themselves in court.

    • Exactly. Head coach is a full time job. If that scrub Jay Gruden had kept an OC in the building, he might still be the head coach of the Redskins.

Stefanski is setting himself up to fail.

If he is relying on Callahan for advice the Browns are in big trouble.

We all know that if the Browns get shutout in the 2020 season opener they will panic and immediately hire an OC so why put off the inevitable?
