Eagles Hire Former Falcons DC Marquand Manuel

The Eagles have a new secondary coach. Philly is hiring Marquand Manuel for that role, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com (Twitter link).

It’s a relatively high profile position coach hiring, as Manuel previously served as Atlanta’s defensive coordinator. After the Falcons’ defense tanked, Dan Quinn fired him following the 2018 season. He spent this past year out of football, and is now resurfacing on Doug Pederson’s staff. Manuel spent eight seasons in the league as a safety before becoming an assistant under Quinn in Seattle and eventually following him to Atlanta.

Philadelphia has seen a good amount of turnover on their coaching staff this offseason, and they’re still searching for a new offensive coordinator. Manuel will be taking over a position group that has been in turmoil the past couple of seasons. The Eagles’ secondary has been plagued by injuries the last two years, and the back-half of their defense has often struggled as a result. Just a few days ago, we heard that they were planning on targeting cornerbacks in free agency, and it sounds like they could overhaul the unit.

I like the hire. Brings a ton of experience from various ranks. He can only help restore our burnt toast into fresh bread. Now they need to find a OC and WR coach and get younger, faster, and healthier across the board.

I’m also excited about this. A great hire IMO. He had a part in the Falcons SuperBowl choke in 2016. Especially with this being the DB’s coach, this will help the defense dramatically. Schwartz can work with the DL & LB’ers and Manny can focus on the secondary

If he was apart of the choke then why would you want him Brady passed all over that unit but Shanahan was as also at fault cause they just didn’t run the damn ball hence why the 49ers ran their way into the super bowl cause of the lack of time management now all he does is manage the clock so yes it can be good but still have my own doubts

coaches have bad games also. Jim Schwartz got torched for 500+yds in Superbowl 52, but still won. This guy is better then the crap that our secondary has been the last 2yrs

The secondary has been crap because of personnel and injuries, not because of who the coach was.Theres a reason Undlin got a coordinator job, despite the Eagles secondary not being anything special.
