Rashad Weaver‘s pro career isn’t getting off to the best start. The Titans rookie has been charged with simple assault, Emily Proud of WKRN Nashville tweets.
The incident apparently happened on April 18th with the report getting filed on April 30th, the day before Weaver was drafted in the fourth-round. Tennessee took the edge rusher from Pittsburgh 135th overall. According to proud, Weaver is accused of punching a woman in the head. While the report says an officer on the scene “observed no injury consistent with a punch to the head,” the report also says that “before leaving he (Weaver) stated to other officers on scene that he had no problem hitting a female if they needed it.”
The woman says she was later diagnosed with a concussion, and that she was pregnant at the time of the incident. Obviously, it’s a serious situation. Depending on how the investigation plays out, Weaver could very well be looking at a suspension before he ever suits up for an NFL game.
His attorney Dennis M. Blackwell issued a statement, which you can read in full courtesy of this tweet from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. He calls the allegations “completely false and reckless,” and says that “without question and without hesitation, we deny Rashad punched anyone, especially a woman.”
Weaver missed the entire 2019 season with a torn ACL, then returned last year and had 7.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss in nine games. The Titans had one of the worst pass-rushes in the league last year and Weaver was the only edge rusher they picked in the 2021 draft, but it’s unclear now if they’re going to be able to count on him this season.
Meanwhile, Tennessee issued a brief statement Monday afternoon, which you can read via this tweet from beat writer Paul Kuharsky. The Titans say they were only made aware of the incident this morning and that they’re “gathering details.”
The Titans know how to pick ’em. This situation sounds made up, but to come out and tell police officers that you’d be ok with hitting a female while your being accused of hitting a female tells you he isn’t too bright.

It’s just so hard to believe someone who says he has no problem with doing what actually/allegedly occurred 5 minutes after talking to the police.
If the Titans are really stupid enough to sign this guy then I’m sure his momma will be getting a new house, et al. and will be quite proud of him.
I was probably the biggest Titans fan in all of Houston from 1998 until a few years ago, man has this organization become an even bigger joke than they were when Bud Adams was still alive. So glad I wrote them off.

Having no moral objection to hitting someone and actually hitting someone are two way different things. If the complainant was actually struck by Weaver, this will a short NFL career. We’ll just wait and see what comes of it.

I came here to say the same thing. It really shouldn’t be that hard to do background checks on these guys, especially since the incident happened two weeks ago and the report was still filed before they picked him.
The Titans have to be searching for these guys, it seems.

Wow, what an ignorant A-Hole! I mean, first of all and regardless of male/female or color, why on earth would you look for trouble when you’re about to be drafted? And second, you punch a woman and then openly run your mouth about how you have no issue hitting a woman with f “She needs it”..
This is one dumb MF! But the NFL will spin it as a “Mistake” vs. a belief this kid has and say “He’s learned from it” for now, until he gets into another altercation.

We need to take the power away from the NFL and make fandom matter again vs. watching garbage human beings play a sport we love so much. Why should I have to watch and possibly root for woman beaters (or rapists, murderers, thieves)? It should be a privilege to play in the NFL, not an entitlement to guys who are great athletes but horrible Human beings!
So done with pro sports enabling these man-children to be famous, rich and still dedicate all over the fans and average citizens in this country.
