A hamstring injury limited Dak Prescott to eight games in 2024. Dallas’ quarterback managed to take part in spring practices, however, and he has continued to make progress in his recovery.
When speaking to the media on Tuesday, Prescott said (via ESPN’s Todd Archer) he is now fully healthy. A final checkup with team doctors is scheduled between now and the start of training camp. Provided that goes as planned, the three-time Pro Bowler will be a full participant in padded practices.
During OTAs, the Cowboys understandably took a cautious approach with Prescott. He managed to participate in all drills then and in last month’s minicamp as well, though. As a result, this latest update comes as little surprise. Of course, it is nonetheless significant for Dallas to have a healthy Prescott well in advance of Week 1.
Set to carry a league-leading cap charge of over $50MM in 2025, expectations will be high once again for the 31-year-old this campaign. Prescott has four years remaining on the record-breaking extension he inked just before the start of last season, and his performance will be key in determining the Cowboys’ success. Dallas went 7-10 in 2024, a year marred by injuries to Prescott and other core players. A new coaching staff will look to return to the team to the success found during much of the Mike McCarthy era which preceded it.
Of course, a strong regular season will be largely ignored if the Cowboys once again fail to make a deep playoff run. Prescott and Co. have not advanced past the divisional round dating back to well before his arrival in 2016, but he will again have the opportunity to end the team’s drought in that regard this year. Dallas lost Cooper Rush and Trey Lance in free agency but traded for Joe Milton as a new backup. The 2024 Patriots draftee will see second-string reps during camp.
As a result of Prescott’s missed time in 2024, ESPN’s Dan Graziano notes the Cowboys were able to recoup roughly $6.4MM of his signing bonus through insurance. The team will obviously look to avoid a similar situation moving forward, and the signs are positive on that front entering training camp.
so there should be no excuses lol
I literally came here to say the exact same thing – HA!
How many Cowboys fans does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Well it’s a trick question; they don’t actually do it, they just talk about when they did it 30 years ago.
Lol!!! But we did it three times…it ain’t easy rooting for Dallas.
Five, actually. But who’s counting. Lol
No excuses bro. Highest paid. Not even a few playoff wins. New weapons and guards.
Why does he need excuses? He was in mvp talk just 2 seasons ago, and 2 seasons before that. Literally 3 teams have won SBs over the last decade basically. I guess all other 27 QBs are out of excuses?
Yeah, I don’t get that. It’s not like we can say before the season that nothing bad will happen during. Prescott has done his job for the most part as a player. Even though there are things that he could definitely do better, he’s also not the biggest reason that Dallas hasn’t won a Super Bowl lately. Tons of other reasons come before anything that Prescott has or hasn’t.
Dak is the highest paid QB and can’t even make it to the nfc championship. Americas team. Multiple primetime games. Most overhyped overrated underperforming team in nfl
Your hate is clouding your judgment/reasoning. The fact that Prescott is the highest paid QB doesn’t guarantee an NFC championship appearance. It’s a team game and he is largely not the reason that they’re not advancing in the playoffs.
And the team has multiple prime time games due to this little thing called TV ratings. Now, I assume you are a proud Falcons fan and proud of their overachieving nature. Did the Atlanta Braves also upset you when they were always on TV despite how bad they often were?
Actually it’s been 6 teams lol.
Shouldn’t we be complaining about management instead of the players, or do they write their own contracts?
I agree with the sentiment regarding the Cowboys who screwed up in making Dak one of the highest paid QBs but the player himself is not some scrub.
Bring back Gucci DiNucci…
9 seasons with with a 2-5 playoff record and never been out of the divisional round.
It’s not hating, it’s fact.
Dak is a good QB and has looked like a really good QB at times but he’s never leading a team to a championship.
Nick Foles won a championship. If the team is good enough, I don’t see why Dak couldn’t be at the helm.
Nick Foles had 6 touchdowns to 1 interception and completed 72 percent of his passes during that super bowl run.
Jerry sucks he’s to blame
The empty calorie king is back to make Dallas fans drool over box scores!!!
How many people seeing this headline did a gesture with their hand and rolled their eyes.
Well that fourth round draft pick traded away for Trey Lance looks like draft capital well spent. I speculated that it was a flier, a lottery ticket at the time. Even I’m surprised that Lance only lasted a year in Dallas. What a dud.
Imagine the draft capital wasted by San Fran to draft Jim in the first place (three 1st). Dallas thought they got a bargain, instead he was a bust, even for what Dallas gave up to get him. There’s better QBs in Canada or the UFL.
Being healthy during the off-season is good. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do much when you’re injured during the season.
The thing that bothered me was how Prescott tried to present himself as an unselfish noble person who was forced by circumstances to push for a $60MM salary so other QBs in the league could be lifted out of poverty. Complete baloney!…lol.
