The Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll in November, but he is not expected to remain unemployed for long.
Daboll, 50, will likely be hired as an offensive coordinator this offseason, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. He has previously held that position for four NFL teams – the Browns, Dolphins, Chiefs, and Bills – as well as the University of Alabama.
He was most successful in Buffalo, building an offense that went from the league’s third-worst in his debut year to a top-5 unit in his third and fourth. He is also credited with molding Josh Allen into one of the league’s best quarterbacks. The foundation established by Daboll has helped the Bills remain one of the top offenses in the league since his departure, though it is worth noting that they have not reached the same peaks as they did during his tenure.
The Giants hoped that Daboll could develop Daniel Jones and inspire a similar offensive turnaround in New York. That has not come to fruition. The team ranked 31st in their final year under Joe Judge and immediately jumped to 15th under Daboll, but regressed to the bottom of the league in the next two years.
Still, Daboll is respected as a top offensive mind in the NFL who could receive interest from teams looking to add and/or develop a potential young franchise quarterback. He also has connections to a variety of other coaches across the league. If one is hired as a head coach by the Titans – or another vacancy, when they come available – Daboll would be a logical choice to come along as the offensive coordinator.

Depending on personnel, I think he could be a solid OC. But his track record is worth noting:
2009 – Browns – 32nd in yards, 29th in points
2010 – Browns – 29th/31st
2011 – Dolphins – 22nd/20th
2012 – Chiefs – 24th/32nd
2018 – Bills – 30th/30th
2019 – Bills – 24th/23rd
2020 – Bills – 2nd/2nd
2021 – Bills – 5th/3rd
It ultimately boils down to how much credit you want to give him for Josh Allen’s development. His offenses were pretty bad before Buffalo, and even in his first two years with Allen in Buffalo, they weren’t good. Elite his last two years there.
Then with the Giants, while he wasn’t OC, their offenses were still pretty bad. They went like 30 games at one point without scoring 30+ points and were among the worst offenses in the league in 2023 and 2024 (injuries play a part, sure). If I had solid personnel or was starting completely from scratch and was patient, I’d kick the tires on Daboll. Otherwise, I’d probably roll the dice on someone else.
Yeah, on the one hand it’s hard to look at his work in Buffalo and his early work with the Giants and not see he’s got some real strengths. On the other hand, he’s been noted for having a combative personality and the greatest feather in his cap is working with a quarterback so unbelievably talented that he might have developed no matter who was coaching him.
I’m pretty tired of all the credit he is given for Josh Allen. Josh allen is a freak athlete and imo, the most talented QB in the NFL. Now I’m sure daboll had some kind of impact but his offense was embarrassing to watch in NY, he took zero chances and rarely drew up plays where receivers ran deep concepts – maybe it was the line, maybe he didn’t have the talent or maybe he’s got this guru he was made out to be. I think now we can see, it wasn’t the QB as jones went on to have a good year in Indy.
Yeah and not the best look for Daboll that Jones said his brief time in Minnesota taught him how to prepare for games at a level he never had before.
Daboll to Detroit. Give Dan his life back! He is going to explode!
This might actually work if Dan can keep a lid on Dabolls tantrums and keep him just focused on OC and not being a witch
Detroit is 3rd in the league in scoring, 23rd in points allowed. Their problems are defense and injuries.
C’mon back to Buffalo and finish the job. Brady is awful…
I would take him in Philadelphia in a heartbeat. Has ties with Hurts @ Alabama, and I think coming over back with Saquan, and instantly going against the giants would fuel him
Now that is an interesting proposal.
Bring him back to Buffalo to finish this year as an offensive consultant. If they can win he can try to take credit for it.
With the Giants! 🙂
