Ozzy Trapilo was a key figure on the Bears’ offensive line during his rookie season. His second NFL campaign is likely to be delayed, though.
Trapilo suffered a torn patellar tendon during Chicago’s wild-card victory. The injury ended his rookie year and set up a lengthy recovery period. Surgery took place shortly after the Bears were eliminated during the divisional round, general manager Ryan Poles said (via Scott Bair of the Marquee Sports Network).
Trapilo’s attention will be focused on the rehab process for several months. Poles confirmed (via Bair) the second-round pick will be sidelined well into 2026. Missed time at the beginning of next season can be expected as a result. Not having Trapilo available for any notable stretch will leave the Bears thin at offensive tackle.
Chicago made a number of necessary moves aimed at providing upgrades up front last offseason. Guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson were acquired via trade before center Drew Dalman was signed in free agency. That trio, along with incumbent right tackle Darnell Wright, helped stabilize the Bears’ O-line. The left tackle spot remained a question mark well into the season, however. Trapilo wound up making six starts during the regular season, while former UDFA Theo Benedet started eight times and logged a similar overall snap share.
Braxton Jones was sidelined for an extended period due to a knee injury. He was activated from injured reserve in time for Chicago’s divisional round matchup but did not play. Jones, a pending free agent, was benched by new head coach Ben Johnson shortly before suffering his injury. A departure would come as no surprise, but coupled with Trapilo’s recovery timeline it would – at least temporarily – leave Chicago short on LT options.
Trapilo, 24, saw limited action at right tackle (a familiar position dating back to his time at Boston College). The majority of his play came on the blindside, though, and he delivered an encouraging performance in terms of PFF evaluation (31st among qualifying tackles). A full-time spot in the starting lineup could be available upon returning to full health, but the time at which that will be the case will be worth monitoring.

I wish the young man a quick return to health. I wish his team nothing but regression next season. I think both will happen. 😁
The improvement of the Bears must’ve been a hard pill to swallow for someone who was sooo braggadocios about his team last season. Stings doesn’t it?
Yup. It sucked. But mostly my team underachieving
Of course a packer fan would say that . Good luck with no first round picks for the next 2 year oh and having no cap space because of parsons contract oh and paying Love all that money . He won’t lead you to the SB and you can take that to the bank .
Lol. You need to learn more about your enemies. This draft is terrible. There are no first round talents outside of the top 10 anyway. I’ll take Parsons any day.
Also, the Packers are in fine cap shape. They are going to cut Gary and they are going to cut Jenkins and they will be under the cap comfortably at that point.
So tell me when they cut Jenkins and Gary how are they going to be replaced? Remember the draft is crap outside the top ten. The pack don’t have much cap space and the starting cornerbacks were a liability the whole season and losing the best receiver with only injury prone receivers left. Almost forgot a new kicker and 21 free agents to resign or replace. The parsons trade will go down as a failure if the isn’t at minimum a Super Bowl appearance and maximum a Super Bowl win.
They weren’t good. Who cares. Their backups were better. We will see what they do at OC and NT. The CB room needs an overhaul and I expect this to happen. The rest of the roster is very good to excellent.
This is a very good team. We will see what happens next year.
Oh, and also that quarterback who you say is mediocre is the best one in the division, including out playing your actual mediocre quarterback in our playoff game
The stats and eye test say you’re wrong, but please, continue with your heavily biased (delusional) opinion.
Jordan Loves play-off record is 1-3 for his career. He does have impressive stats but so did Kirk Cousins in Minnesota and exactly how many play-off wins/Super Bowl appearances/ Super Bowl victories does either have? Saying Love is the best in the division is a stretch. Also the Bears quarterback is mediocre is looking like an incorrect take. If I’m making a true statement the NFL had better take notice of what Williams did this past season. The kid is more dangerous with his back against the wall in games. If he has a year maybe two in the same system that team is not going to be fun for the opposition to play against. That 30 years or so of dominance may be ending.
He’s the best qb in the division. A top 7 EZ and probably top 5. Only fantasy football players and box score scouts don’t see it.
Love. Goff. Massive gap. Williams. Massive gap. McCarthy.
And we will see about that dominance ending. Every single good bears season in the past 20 years has been followed by a big regression the following year. And this year is different because of a qb who can’t complete 56% of his passes?!? Lolol. Ok
That ranking system is just that rank. Nothing like being a homer right? LMAO Anybody saying that about Williams is just in denial. He’ll have at least the same offense back with a couple of patches hopefully. I just hope the Bears don’t move Thuney to LT because that would be a big mistake taking maybe the best guard in football and asking him to do something else that was already a failure once(Chiefs). The only place Love is the best QB is in Green Bay. Did anybody notice the pathetic dweebs they trotted out there when he threw his head into Booker and injured himself? Wow that was horrible to watch. Was like watching Rashee Rice drive a car.
Ahem. 56% completion rate. Fifty-Six. That is objectively terrible. He has talent, but doesn’t execute consistently enough. Johnson would tell you the same. He is not an above average QB in the NFL right now.
And yes. Love is the best QB in the NFCN. I could hear an argument that Goff is better, but it’s close. Not Williams. That is not close.
And your “best” QB couldn’t beat the Bears when it mattered most, could he? And that mediocre Williams led not one, but two crushing comebacks against your “excellent” players. Go lick your wounds and come back next year, son.
Qb winz!!! 😆
Oh I guess you did not actually watch the playoff game then
Oh I watched it. I watched Jordan Love play 4x better than Caleb Williams. I watched the Packers defense (without Micah) gag.
Maybe if you keep telling yourself that long enough you’ll actually start to believe it. Power of suggestion. Keep saying, I am smart, I am smart, I am smart. You’re not but hey keep trying. LOL
Pardon me my dude. But last I checked. 70 percent completion for over 300 yards. 4 tuds and zero picks in one game is a whole lot better than 55 percent. Four tuds and five picks. Over two games.
Which QB won? Twice.. Waiting…
Yawn. Qb winz agin
I just feel bad for the kid because the Bears seemed to have found the last piece of their O Line when he got hurt. Bears drafted a DL and an OT in he 2nd round and both seem destined to start the season on the PUP list. I just hope they don’t rush it and come back when they’re healthy. Rather they came back later than early and got hurt again.
He will miss the entire 2026 season,
And the question that I have Is at what percentage will he be at by fall 2027.
It’s possible. That’s a nasty injury and tough for anybody to come back from. It’s a lot harder for a skill person though. Even if it’s the worst case scenario and he misses 2026 and he can’t move well enough to be a LT anymore he should still be able to play Guard. He’s got good technique and Thuney and Jackson are only signed through 27. He can still be a nice piece on the O Line somewhere. Not worried about it. But I think the kid makes it back to LT.
Don’t play will trolls. Even with logic there’s no winning an argument.
Really curious to see what they’ll do at LT this offseason. Is it Benedet? Braxton Jones is a free agent and I’d have to think the Bears are just fine letting him walk. Cam Robinson is who Fox Sports picked for the Bears to go after at OT in their top 100 free agents and potential fits article from 2/11/26 which kinda makes sense given how thin the market is this offseason. FWIW, they also picked the Bears to sign Trey Hendrickson (while losing Wright, CJGJ and Brisker but resigning Byard).
