Joe Callahan‘s bounced on and off the Packers’ 53-man roster the past two seasons, but he fell victim to a post-draft roster squeeze this year.
The Packers waived the third-year quarterback on Monday. They are now down to three passers on their offseason roster: Aaron Rodgers, Brett Hundley and DeShone Kizer. Callahan served as Green Bay’s third quarterback over the past two seasons, continuing to vacillate between 53-man roster cog and practice squad occupant.
The Division III product was Hundley’s backup last season and played in one game, but his path back to that spot is more complex now that Kizer’s in the picture. It’s possible the Packers could reacquire Callahan as they’ve done in the past, but for now, he’s on the waiver wire.
As a rookie, Callahan saw the Packers, Saints and Browns waive him. He ended up back in Green Bay and remained there for the rest of the 2016 season and throughout last year.
Hopefully someone gives him a chance, he’s earned it.
Hundley should of been the odd man out after last seasons disaster.
he should have been playing last year instead of the bum they put out there.
Problem is we fans don’t see what the team sees in Hundley. While any back up will look inferior next to Mr. State Farm, he showed very little and the team was fortunate to be close to a playoff team. Overtime win against Cleveland is all you need to remember.
My comment started to say “relax” but as I was writing I got to realize the trouble the team is in if Hundley gets on the field.
With a good Irish name like Callahan, I expect Joe to do just fine. There is always a demand for a good pub that serves Guinness around sporting venues.

First they let Janis get away, then trade Randall, now they waive Callahan? THATS IT! 2018 SEASON IS LOST….
If nothing comes of it at least he will always be able to sell Callahan Brake pads!
