Patriots Add RB Robert Martin, Make Other Minor Moves

The Patriots have signed RB Robert Martin and LB Scooby Wright, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss (Twitter links). Both players practiced with the team today.

Martin, who spent 2014-17 at Rutgers, will add depth for New England, as Damien Harris is dealing with minor injuries and the team isn’t likely to play any of its top running backs in its fourth preseason contest. The franchise worked out former Washington State running back James Williams before signing Martin, as Doug Kyed of NESN relays.

Wright was a seventh-round pick in the 2016 draft. He’s played for the Browns and Cardinals in addition to briefly playing in the failed AAF league.

New England waived DE/OLB Keionta Davis and placed special teamer Brandon King on injured reserve to accommodate the signings.

Belicheck loves him some UGA, Miami, & Rutgers guys…

I could have sworn it seemed like they had more for all three, but the Pats currently employ 4 Dawgs starting in their offense (Andrews@C, Watson@TE, Michel@RB, Wynn@OT/OG)

Then, they also have 4 guys from Rutgers..Three of their DBs, in the McCourty brothers and Harmon, and then the new RB signee.

    Finally, they currently have 5 former Hurricanes Dorsett@WR, Gauthier@OL, Harris@DL, Kamalu@DL, St.Louis@OL..

I know Belicheck also seems to have an affinity for former Bama guys, but I was shocked to find out they only have Harris@RB and Hightower@LB as their only former Tide players.

Still, his long-time favorite has been Rutgers, but with how highly he has spoken of UGA and their picks lately, it seems like BB’s new favorite recruiting ground is down in Athens @UGA. Which, I think that’s really a huge compliment for Greg Schiano and Kirby Smart both. That is especoally the case if you’re Kirby Smart, and you have only been running your own program for less than a handful of years. Smart has to be flattered that a coach with the experience, expertise, and overall resume of that of Belicheck would speak so highly of you!!
