It is safe to say C.J. Henderson‘s stock with the Jaguars has dropped since the previous regime made him the No. 9 overall pick barely a year ago. The second-year cornerback is now in trade rumors, and his standing with Urban Meyer appears less than ideal.
Meyer and assistant head coach Charlie Strong traveled to Henderson’s residence to meet with him recently, Strong said Tuesday (via John Reid of the Florida Times-Union). Henderson has been on the field for just two of the Jaguars’ 11 practices at training camp. He spent time on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list and missed the offseason program due to shoulder labrum surgery. Before the shoulder injury cut his season short, Henderson started eight games as a rookie. He has not been a steady participant since that midseason injury.
The ex-Florida Gator has appeared disinterested at Jags practice, per Reid, and he no-showed the team’s scrimmage Sunday for personal reasons. Strong, however, said he is attempting to help Henderson get back on solid footing with the team.
“We didn’t have to go get him to come to the facility, just had a conversation with him,” Strong said of he and Meyer’s visit with Henderson, via Reid. ”Anytime you have a great young man like that, you want to make sure you do everything possible to help him. We know he can make us a lot better football team. He wants to play. He is going to do everything he can to get back.”
Recent reports have indicated execs around the league believe Henderson is available, and that the Saints are interested. Meyer, at least publicly, has not expressed the same kind of support for Henderson compared to Strong. When asked if Henderson will be able to move past this string of absences, the first-year Jags HC offered an “I don’t know.” It is also unknown if Henderson will play in Jacksonville’s preseason opener this week. Shaquill Griffin, Sidney Jones and rookie second-rounder Tyson Campbell have been the Jags’ primary corners thus far in camp.
Jags former D-Cord Todd Walsh is not in Detroit….
Lions will toss a 4th round conditional 3rd to Jags in trade.
Dallas really liked this guy a year ago…
Definitely think Dallas should offer a 3rd or 4th. They need some secondary help and pass rush help.
I’m wondering if Anthony Brown and a 3rd gets it done. If not maybe they could do something with Connor Williams(on an expiring contract) and start McGovern at LG.
Well if Henderson is a head case and having behavior issues like not being interested at practice and not showing up to stuff that really hurts his trade value. Isiah Wilson was a 1st round pick and titans took a 7th for him cause he was a head case.
If he was doing the right things he’d net a 2nd minimum
But with reports of how he’s behaving doubt teams are offering more than a 5th.
Not doing himself any favors and could find himself out of the league fast.
Could be a case of not wanting to play in Jacksonville.
Perhaps he saw the signing of Shaquill Griffin as harming his job security? Or he does not Meyer or the new defensive scheme? In any case, it’s not a good look to boycott practice, especially for a second year player who is still learning the pro game.
Just see if the Saints will give you a 3rd/4th rounder and a couple of 8×10 autographed glossy pics of Drew Brees and Zion Williamson. Maybe sweeten the deal with an Archie Manning…
Andre Dillard for CJ Henderson?
Eagles don’t need Dillard with Johnson and Maitala and could do with a young CB, Jags get a high potential tackle when fit could be good and help protect Lawrence and add to Eitenee running game
There would have to picks involved I think, but player-wise I think that’s be a needs-addressing trade. Dillard won’t have to start if he’s not ready, since the Jags retained Cam Robinson. But Robinson is not irreplaceable, so Dillard could have a shot at winning the starting job.
I’d expect Jacksonville to have to get a pick back for sending a presumptive starter to Philly for a guy who may or may not start himself. I’m not sure how concerned the Eagles would be with their tackle depth, but it’s a rebuilding year there and I don’t think Dillard would be difficult to replace if he’s not starting. If he is determined to be the clear starter, the trade wouldn’t happen anyway.
Disinterested? Understandable as Jacksonville ranks near the bottom of the list of most happening cities in which to live….
His $20 million contract is fully guaranteed.
