FEBRUARY 17: Ben Volin of the Boston Globe writes Hill and the Dolphins may well be “motivated” to work out a trade in spite of the public messaging from both parties. The team will have the opportunity to gauge interest in a potential trade next week at the Combine, and it will be interesting to see if any further developments emerge at that time.
FEBRUARY 15: Tyreek Hill hinted at a possible trade following the Dolphins’ season finale, but both the WR and the organization were quick to walk back those comments. While Hill has since stated a desire to stick in Miami, it could actually be the organization that seeks a divorce.
Multiple NFL executives told Armando Salguero and Gates Garcia of Outkick.com that the Dolphins could listen to offers on their star receiver. The reporters seem to hint that it would still take a significant haul to acquire Hill, but it also sounds like Miami could be receptive to an offer that reaches their lofty asking price.
Finances would naturally be a major motivator for the Dolphins front office. Hill is attached to a lofty but manageable $28.6MM cap hit in 2025, but that number balloons to an untenable $51.8MM cap hit in 2026. In between, the Dolphins have a potential out on the contract, but they’d still be left with more than $15MM in dead cap. If the organization determines that Hill won’t be in Miami beyond the 2025 campaign, it could make some sense for the Dolphins to recoup value before they’re forced to choose from two unappealing options.
Hill was pretty clear on his feelings following a disappointing end to the 2024 campaign. With the Dolphins failing to make the postseason for the first time in Hill’s three years with the team, the wideout didn’t mince words when speaking with reporters.
“I’m out,” Hill said at the time. “It was great playing here but at the end of the day, I have to do what’s best for my career.”
Both Hill and the Dolphins quickly went into crisis mode. GM Chris Grier made it clear that Hill hadn’t requested a trade, and agent Drew Rosenhaus later stated that the wideout was “committed” to the organization. It was then the player’s turn to walk back his comments, with Hill admitting his mistake while also stating that his comments were misconstrued.
Either way, the whole fiasco may have emboldened rival squads to make a competitive offer. Hill’s numbers took a hit in 2024 thanks to inconsistent QB play, but he still managed to top 1,000 yards from scrimmage. The 30-year-old also isn’t far removed from a two-year start in Miami where he averaged 1,778 yards per season. There would surely be a team that’s willing to gamble on a return to form for the five-time All-Pro WR, and a strong opening offer could catch the Dolphins’ ear.
Tyreek omglolwtf Hill being Tyreek omglolwtf Hill
Trade him. While Tua’s injury certainly cost him some production, he was still only #3 in yards/target. Make Waddle the #1, trade Hill for picks, pick another good WR, and have more money available to sign other players
Get a haul or some quality for him. Call the chargers and ask for multiple day 2-3 picks and maybe throw in Jeff Wilson Jr. or Ramsey
@Sent,
I don’t think you’d get that with his contract numbers. I honestly think you’d get a couple 2’s or 2 & 3 with maybe a 5-6 following year.
Possibly
Less. Way less.
“Hill’s numbers took a hit in 2024 thanks to inconsistent QB play…”
Wait… Are you trying to tell us that a good QB is actually advantageous to a receiver? Who woulda thunk it?
Larry Fitzgerald played with mostly average QBs during his career but still managed to put up HOF stats. Adam Thielen went from Kirk Cousins to Bryce Young in 2023 and saw a big jump in production.
Because theilen didn’t have a Justin Jefferson in Carolina
He became an extra sad version of Jefferson himself cause that team is awful.
Mike Tomlin would’ve already released him for pulling what he did. Step up MacDaniels…
McDaniels needs to worry winning to keep his job
No he wouldn’t have.. see George Pickens
Plus, I don’t see Vrabel putting up with his crap. Thanks but no thanks. Let the Jets have him.
If you’re the Texans. I’d offer a 2nd for Hills two remaining years on his contract.
Collins Hill Dell make a pretty nasty wide receiver room and hill would fit strouds 3rd and 4th year financially
Personally I’d trade laremy Tunsil the dude just commits way too many penalties out of sheer laziness. Recoup some draft picks.
I’d sign Zeitler and Martin to fill guard positions which were a major issue last year protecting stroud. I’d sign each to 3 years (matching strouds rookie contract). Trade Shaq Mason for a day 3 pick.
@Easy, on a madden team, for sure. However having both Hill and Diggs together i don’t think would be a positive thing. They both want the ball and are vocal if it doesn’t happen. Personally I prefer Diggs because off the field he is much more manageable and actually does a decent job with charity and community work.
I did forget the restructure and thus Diggs is a FA, however, id still prefer him over Hill.
I’d agree if he was healthy but coming off the acl in his 30s I’d rather take a chance on hill but that’s me if we are gonna trade for a wr.
While this would make their offense really strong, they still need to be able to put some sort of defense on a field that actually stop someone.
Defense wasn’t the issue last year. You can’t beat bs penalties called on you by the refs in the playoffs. Their defense was top 5 based on
# 1 in comp percentage
# 7 in total yards
# 2 in interceptions
# 4 in sacks
Offense suffered a lot when Collins missed time then Diggs went down with the acl and then Dell was out for the season with that horrific knee injury. So WR is definitely a must.
If you can get a Hill for a # 2 or a Tee Higgins for a # 1 and sign him to a 4 year deal I’d pull the trigger
Dell might miss the whole season, that was a nasty injury. With him being 165 pounds he might never be the same. Two years in a row with a major leg injury. I don’t think they can count him as a contributor for this next season. As far as Martin, all the speculation is that he’s going to retire. That’s still up in the air at this point though.
A bit sarcastic, however, I’d totally see the Browns trading their 2nd and maybe 5th for him.
Saying the #2 would just be mean to their fans
It’s funny that you say that, because one would wonder how much Miami is wiling to pay to help its edge rushing issue…and his much Cleveland is willing to pay to help its passing offense issue.
He is still good but I don’t think his game ages well. He is short, he does not attack the ball much in the air for jump balls. He may still be very fast with age like Darrell Green, he is going to need to be.
Take a good long look at McDaniels. That dude is NOT a leader of men! It’s obvious that he gets no respect from his players. The NFL is going through this stage of hiring these offensive “guru’s” that have never stepped on an NFL field. Everyone thinks their going to find the next McVay, and it doesn’t happen. I loved when everyone from Steven A to Mike Greenberg all laughed and mocked Dan Campbell after his press conference calling him a meathead and that he would be out of a job in a year. And all he has done is go from 3-13-1 to 9-8 to 15-2. Hill makin those comments in Detroit or Pittsburgh or KC would get him traded immediately. But in a place like Miami with a coach like MM, he is welcomed back with open arms. If I was a Dolphin fan, I’d pray for a trade!
Pittsburgh? Have you heard of George Pickens?
Trade him……Dolphins gonna be the Dolphins either way, they’re not going places, gonna be the same team in the standings every year, subpar
Hill to the Raiders for Jakobi Meyers ($11M per year) and a good route runner and complimentary #2 to Waddle and a 2nd route pick next year.
Raiders bring back Rodgers/Adams, sign Aaron Jones, draft Jeanty with their first pick, pick up a couple solid OL, and draft defense the rest of the way.
Leaves you Rodgers/Jeanty/Jones/Adams/Hill/Bowers. Draft your replacement QB next year.
They have the Cap space to do all this and have the most 2026 Cap Space.
They at least become relevant overnight.
Thoughts?
I’ve been watching the past 20 years of the Raiders trying to achieve s/t relevancy. No more older players. And Rodgers is impossible to even read about, let alone root for.
If Tyreek isn’t over the Hill he is fast approaching. Over paid with significant character issues he has the potential to be a locker room cancer. Never mind his past issues of abusing women and children. I’d also be afraid he would be a potential one man procreation machine in the area. I would not touch him or his contract.
Or leave Hill alone and trade for Garrett and have a Crosby/Garrett on the edges!
Hard not to like Garrett. The dude is a freak. Trade for Garrett and draft Graham or Grant, and the line should be historically good.
Tyrek Hill slowly becoming Antonio Brown ….
Deebo for Hill ….. lol
Nah Hill could be good for the Trevor Lawrence and the Jags or maybe Josh Richardson and Indy
Hill would be a dream target for Lawrence. It would give Coen a cushion for the installation of his offense in his first year, if Jacksonville wants to ease the transition of their first year coach…and their quarterback will now have to learn his millionth offense. Hill fast, throw far.
“They would get a haul”.
not with the contract.
