The Colts’ new ownership arrangement is officially in place. The team announced on Monday how the front office will operate moving forward.
Jim Irsay‘s recent passing set in motion the transition of power to his three daughters. In the aftermath of his death, it appeared as though Carlie Irsay-Gordon would take over as the Colts’ controlling owner. That is now officially the case, and her title also includes that of chief executive officer.
Casey Foyt will take on the role of executive vice president in addition to her status as a co-owner. Kalen Jackson, meanwhile, while operate as chief brand officer and president of the Colts Foundation. Since joining the organization, much of Jackson’s time has been spent working on her father’s mental health initiatives, so today’s news comes as no surprise.
Irsay-Gordon, 44, handled the Colts’ day-to-day operations when her father was suspended in 2014. She has spent the time since then acclimating to the workings of the organization in numerous ways, positioning herself as Irsay’s heir apparent. With the team’s succession plan now in place, Irsay-Gordon will take on the responsibility of overseeing the Colts on a full-time basis as expected.
Chief operating officer Pete Ward and chief legal officer Dan Emerson have both been in place for decades in Indianapolis. They will each will stay on as the Colts transition to this new ownership structure, one which keeps the organization in the same family it has belonged to since 1972.
A new perspective on the direction the Colts are taking is long overdue. Bring out the broom and clean house Carlie.
Nothing against Steichen, but perhaps a new direction organizationally could be of some benefit. I actually like Ballard as a GM, but I did always get the feeling (especially after his first couple of years) that Irsay had a big hand in dictating or influencing certain team decisions.
I like Ballard too and a few years back the Colts had the most players selected for the Pro Bowl so Chris has a good eye for talent. Unfortunately the organization has become so obsessed with solving the Richardson situation that they have ignored other positions. The defense is a mess and they still can’t win in Jacksonville, so that psychological boogie man that cost them a playoff spot at the end of 2021 still lingers.
No, no, no, no on Ballard! Pro Bowl selections don’t count for wins. I could go into detail as for reasons why if interested. If he were an artist, he’d draw stick figures.
Irsay has that Mark Davis syndrome. That he knows more about the NFL than any coaches or GMs do, because daddy owned a team.
Definitely the best looking ownership group.
You’re not fooling anyone.
Some guys will say anything to get a discount on a massage 🙂
Well deserved. Women to power. We need more of that for sure…
As long as they don’t take a page from Marge Schott’s book, that is.
Don’t forget Rachel Phelps, who owned the Cleveland Indians in 1989. She was brutal.
Deserved? By virtue of being born to the former owner?
Perhaps good leadership is more desirable than whatever the physical traits of whomever is in question are. I think it’s fair to say that most people would prefer Steve Bischiotti to Amy Adams Strunk.
The Colts could use some more stability, though, so this could be a welcome development if this group can change that from some of Jim’s (and his father’s) more questionable decisions.
You guys might find these women are the best owners you have had. Jody Allen has been great. If what I hear is true she is delaying selling the team to find a way to buy it. Paul put in the will she had to sell it and donate the proceeds. There was a timeline with a couple of delays. Value of team fell stuff like that. They are looking for a loophole. Paul must have not thought she would want it.
She has made tough calls trading Russ (wasn’t tough for many fans along with firing Pete). Pete and her were pretty good friends. Still are but tough to fire a good friend. I just want her to know I am available if she is in the market. Owning the Seahawks would make most women good looking. LOL Not Pelosi though.
They can’t be worse than the previous owner, and maybe realizing their inexperience will allow them to let real football people guide the team.
Of course they can be worse.
