The A.J. Brown rumors are starting to heat up. Last week, we heard that the receiver was frustrated with his role in the Eagles offense, and that report was accompanied by a highly publicized meeting between Brown, Jalen Hurts, and Saquon Barkley. Following a second-straight Eagles loss, it sounds like the frustrations aren’t letting up.
While the Eagles have continually stated that they won’t trade Brown, multiple NFL executives told Dianna Russini of The Athletic that they believe the receiver will eventually be on the move. One source noted the player’s apparent indifference, which could be especially worrisome for a team that’s looking to go on a deep playoff run. Another source was more to the point, opining that the Eagles will ultimately deal the wideout because GM Howie Roseman “likes deals, especially if a player’s value overrides how Brown is being used.”
Brown actually had one of his most productive outings of the season in Week 6, finishing with six catches for 80 yards. After the loss, the veteran denied reports of a discussion with his offensive teammates, noting that he didn’t “recall a meeting” (per EJ Smith of PHLY Sports). Russini added more context, with sources claiming that the meeting wasn’t formal and was simply a “quick, honest check-in.” That could surely be taken as semantics, but either way, Brown didn’t seem particularly interested in discussing his chat.
Russini isn’t the only one noting that rival teams have their eye on the wideout. While Albert Breer of the MMQB acknowledges that this is just part of Philly’s plight while dealing with a “mercurial receiver,” he says there are teams currently monitoring the situation. One exec from an AFC contender said they expect Brown to be discussed in trade talks leading up to the deadline, especially since there doesn’t seem to be any resolution in sight.
On the flip side, Breer is skeptical if a trade will ever reach the finish line. The reporter believes the situation is manageable, at least for the 2025 campaign. Plus, teams may be a bit wary of acquiring the receiver considering his past knee issues and his hefty $29MM in guaranteed money for the 2026 season. Zach Berman of The Athletic echoes this sentiment, as the reporter expressed skepticism that Brown will ultimately be on the move. Berman notes that Roseman prefers to acquire players of Brown’s caliber, not trade them away. Plus, there’s optimism that Nick Sirianni will be able to manage all of the personalities.
In other words, it’s uncertain how this situation will ultimately play out. Either way, it will surely be a story to watch as we inch closer to the November 4th trade deadline.
AJ Brown to the Bills/Steelers/Broncos for second rounder and sixth rounder. He played with DK at Ole Miss it would be perfect
Steelers won’t pay 2 WR1s.
Maybe
Stop. The problem is an injured o line and an overmatched rookie offensive coordinator. It’s not AJ
Injured O-Line…..how’s the working……Hurts was 24-33-283 with a TD…..exactly what do you expect…….maybe it is the offensive coordinator bringing a different approach to the offense….or maybe the Eagles are just a bit overrated based on the team personnel……….
Cherry picking a game. Overall passing numbers down. 20th in the league. Not Hurts or AJ. Can’t run. O-line not dominating. Predictable play calling. Too many 3rd and longs.
Not cherry picking at all….the Eagles are leading their division…..7 TD’s and 2 INT’s through 6 games in 2024 and they did pretty well don’t you think as the season progressed….maybe, as with the Chiefs, the league is catching up to their overall game plans and opportunities….with the Chiefs, they get the benefit of way too many calls or non-calls, and with the Eagles, the “tush push” is not flagged at least the 1/3 of the time the line jumps….and that line was made up of All Pros…..
And guess what? Halfway through the season in 2023 the Eagles looked good on paper too. Quit looking at box scores and watch the actual games. It’s a clear self report for anyone who thinks there’s no issues right now that they haven’t watched the Eagles play. Dickson has been injured and the guard play hasn’t been great. Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson look like they are taking steps back with age. The run game isn’t the same. The offense looks sluggish and predictable. If you fix the coordinator issue then I believe Smith and Brown are more than productive.
AJ to the raiders for Jakobi Meyers and a 2nd. Raiders get a #1. Philly gets a solid #2, salary relief and a good pick
Swap in Micheal Mayers and drop the pick to a 5th or 6th I’d be happy
I love Mark Schlereth’s description of WR’s. They are like babies. They need to be fed by an adult and cry and whine when they don’t get fed.
If I was the Eagles I’d tell A.J. Brown to STFU.
Better chill before you end up back in Tennessee
Reminder once again his dead cap hit’s would be
$59,802,199, per OverTheCap, if traded before June 1st ‘26 & $43,448,702 before the same in ‘27. He ain’t going anywhere!
Whatever the personnel issue might be or might not be, this is the key. Whatever team taking Brodn would have to have a huge amount of space available. The contenders’ caps aren’t that wide open. That means that a Brown trade has to either be accompanied by another player moving, or it isn’t happening. The Eagles are only trading Brown if they get a good offer, too, which would be something that would give them more value than Brown does. I think that they’d be open to it, but they aren’t eager to push him out the door, so teams are going to be willing to clear cap space AND pony up a good offer to get Brown, unless the bottom falls out in these next couple of weeks.
You mean vultures don’t you? LOL
GM Howie Roseman “likes deals, especially if a player’s value overrides how Brown is being used.”
Well, if a player’s value overrides how he is being used then perhaps dealing the HC would be the smarter move.
People are so dumb writing this. Even if AJ pulled a TO, which he most definitely is not, the dead cap hit the Eagles take trading him makes this literally a complete non starter. There’s a 0% chance he’s traded this year. In fact can there be negative chances? People need to do their research about the repercussions of this stuff before wasting time on articles like this
There’s a reason why media has a lower approval rating than Congress, and this clickbait baloney is an example.
I hate to be a smart ass (occasionally) but what is the approval rating of those conducting the ratings surveys?
As a guy who has DeVonta Smith on his fantasy team, I STRONGLY urge the Eagles to trade Brown…
If Brown were to catch fire after a trade and someone else in your league has him… it could be a problem for you.
How can all of these “journalists” be oblivious to the massive negative cap consequences of trading this guy? It boggles the mind.
Jokes on you for thinking the media does their homework.
Hear me out:
maybe … juuuust maybe … this being Hurts’ SIXTH Offensive Coordinator might have something to always looking dysfunctional at several points in a season?
The play calling is so predictable it’s stupid bordering on remedial.
Brown, Smith, Goeddert, Saquon backed up by Dotson & Mitchie (and the invisible man Bigsby) and THIS is the sum gain of that group of talent?
That’s not on AJ in any multiverse
It starts with Patullo and ends with Sirianni
just my 2¢
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As the OL goes…so go the Eagles and currently that OL ranks 28th in pass protection yielding sacks at a 9.47% rate. Ironically, the defense is also ranked 28th in sacking opposing QBs. Fortunately for Howie, both the Giants and Cowboys are already looking ahead to next season.
This is probably not a popular opinion, but some of it is on Hurts, too. He’s missed Brown and others on some open throws. The coordinators and coaching are obviously contributors here, no argument, but Hurts should be hitting more of those plays than he is. I’d say none of it is really on the receivers, at least play-wise on the field. I also don’t think that they’d move Brown with the way things stand now. The Eagles are still winning, after all, and they look like they’ll continue to do so throughout the year. Brown probably will be a part of that.
