OCTOBER 25: Owner Mark Davis spoke about Crosby after the fall league meeting. He reiterated (via Pelissero’s colleagues Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo) his stance and that of the team has not changed with respect to a trade in this case. While interest will no doubt continue to be shown, Crosby can still be expected to remain in Vegas moving forward.
OCTOBER 21: Maxx Crosby isn’t going anywhere. While the Raiders could be open to moving some significant pieces, the team doesn’t have any intention of trading their defensive star. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Raiders met with Crosby today and told the pass rusher they’re neither shopping nor trading him.
Following a report earlier this morning that the Cowboys had made inquires on Crosby’s availability, Pelissero notes that rival teams do indeed have interest in acquiring the four-time Pro Bowler. That probably goes without saying when it comes to a player of Crosby’s caliber, and it would simply be a continuation of this past offseason when teams (including the Seahawks and Patriots) were rebuffed in their attempts to acquire the star. No matter how many suitors line up for Crosby’s services, it sounds like the Raiders refuse to budge.
Perhaps best of all for the franchise, Pelissero notes that Crosby wants to stick with the Raiders. While the edge rusher has a strong desire to win, he wants that to happen in Las Vegas. Of course, the player previously showed his commitment to the franchise when he inked a three-year, $106.5MM extension this past offseason.
After missing the final four games of the 2024 campaign, Crosby has picked up where he left off. Through seven games this season, the 28-year-old has collected 10 tackles for loss, four sacks, and a force fumble. Pro Football Focus currently ranks him 21st among 113 qualifiers, although the site graded him as a top-four player at his position between 2021 and 2023.
While the Raiders won’t be trading Crosby, that doesn’t mean they won’t be active ahead of the deadline. Both the Raiders and Jakobi Meyers seem motivated to get the receiver out of Las Vegas, and there have even been rumblings that the front office could add to their defense. Despite the Raiders 2-5 start, the team isn’t anticipating any major changes to leadership, and it appears the organization will be looking to support their foundation with an eye on 2026.
As for the unsubstantiated Cowboys rumblings, Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News denies that the organization hasn’t reached out to any teams about potential trades. However, the reporter notes that the front office has discussed potential deals internally, so perhaps a trade (for someone other than Crosby) could eventually materialize.
Why keep him? Raiders won’t be contending in Crosby’s prime years. That’s a really tough division. Dallas will gladly give away those GB draft picks and take on salary. Plenty of money and picks to rebuild that team. TB12 better step in and fast.
Crosby is the type of player you don’t trade, unless he forces your hand. Even if the Raiders had three 1st round selections, ultimately you’d just be hoping to get lucky enough that one of them becomes 3/4 of the force that Crosby is.
I don’t think the main problem in LV is a lack of talent right now, though; it’s the defensive scheme they’re running. They’re not mixing things up enough, and that’s on Carroll. It’s certainly not unfixable, but at some point you have to be willing to try to fix it.
Thank you. Some one gets it.
He’s literally the only player of significant value they have to trade.
Myers has been in the headlines but that list of potential teams is extremely limited
The demand for Maxx would be overwhelming
Jerry Jones would gladly throw a 1st and 3rd to get him.
I seem to recall the Raiders saying they would not trade Khalil Mack and shortly afterwards he was playing for the Bears.
Mack was a a pending UFA who they couldn’t come to terms on a new contract with. Crosby is signed for 3 more seasons. Not even close to the same situation.
Sounds to me like a trade is imminent.
They won’t trade him unless they get Maxx value.
Crosby for Stills, Nash & Young?
Hopefully not Chase Young, he’s too brittle.
stupid teams do stupid things
Stupid people say stupid shiz. Such is life.
amen
Keep Maxx, Bowers, Jeanty, Kolton and JPJ (also start him at C). Trade any and all other assets that anyone has interest in. Get a franchise QB, WR1, address the offensive line, and add an impact player or two to the defense. Suddenly you have a team that should compete. I’m not going to say that Pete has failed already but he’s not doing himself any favors by standing by his son that’s failing the offensive line coach assignment. Geno is and was nothing more than a stopgap option so let’s not get too hot and bothered about him being in town. However, it’s time to see what AOC and/or Miller have to offer.
AOC has shown what he can do. Finding a franchise QB isn’t that easy or everyone would have one. Most of these rookie QB’s are not franchise QB’s. Some may develop, some won’t. The system being in place and working is as important as anything. Pete Carroll himself is a stop gap, we all know that too. Until there’s consistency in the FO this will be a revolving door as every coach wants to”his” guy. That doesn’t work when you got new coaches every 2 years.
Geno is much better than AOC. And easier said than done to find all those franchise players. Easy on Pete, they have no offensive playmakers on the field except for Jeanty. They just got embarrassed by KC last week. Couldn’t even get to 100 yards total offense. They aren’t in any position to compete anytime soon, especially in that division.
I don’t know BlackSundayz thoughts as to why he views Pete as a stopgap, but I agree that it’s clear that he is. A lot of it has to do with Carroll’s age. I don’t think you hire a coach his age believing he’ll be there for more than the length of this contract. I think he was brought in more to help establish a culture than for the Xs and Os of coaching.
If the plan goes as they hope, I imagine Chip takes over as HC in a few years. They’re trying to build a plan for some FO consistency. It’s anyone’s guess if it works or not. But the inconsistency from the top down has long plagued the Raiders.
I’m trading anybody and everybody and blowing the whole thing up for the 5th time in 10 years
I applaud your “Commitment to Excellence” 🙂
