A late blown lead resulted in another loss for the Giants. The team’s ability to rebound next week could be hampered by an injury at the quarterback spot.
Jaxson Dart fumbled late in the third quarter of today’s game against the Bears. He was not initially evaluated on the sidelines after his head hit the field on the play and returned to the game during New York’s next possession. During the period between quarters, however, the rookie was tested in the medical tent before being taken to the locker room.
Shortly thereafter, Dart was officially ruled out of the contest with a concussion. The Giants’ offense was led by Russell Wilson the rest of the way. Despite leading by 10 points with less than four minutes remaining, New York wound up losing 24-20. That marks another close loss on the part of the Giants, a team whose offense is already without top receiver Malik Nabers and impressive running back Cam Skattebo.
It is likely Dart will be unavailable as well for Week 11. A path exists for players in concussion protocol to clear the required steps in time to play the following week, but absences spanning at least one game are commonplace. Presuming Dart is indeed sidelined for the next contest, the Giants will turn to Wilson as their starter once again.
That setup was in place at the start of the campaign, but as expected Dart took over QB1 duties in short order. Sunday marked the first-rounder’s seventh start of the season, although it included a continuation of a playing style many feared would result in an injury. In part due to the absences of Nabers and Skattebo, Dart has taken plenty of hits during his time in the lineup. Observers warned about injuries being an increased risk in his case, and he is now on track to miss time. The Giants were fined for their handling of Dart’s previous trip to the medical tent, but a repeat of that discipline should not be expected.
Wilson is a pending free agent, but the Giants elected to keep him past the trade deadline. Fellow veteran Jameis Winston – who is under contract through 2026 and hopes to remain with the team – will handle backup duties provided Dart is unable to suit up. Attention will turn to the latter’s recovery process before the Giants look to continue his development.

The media can have 30,000 articles on his concussions like Tua.
I’m sure they’re grateful for your permission.
I want to say that I would be surprised if no one on the Giants staff is fired tomorrow, but the Maras have proven time and again that they don’t have a clue. Daboll and Shane Bowen will probably last the season. Both should be fired immediately.
In all fairness, Daboll didn’t sign an obviously over the hill Russell Wilson. The Giants actually looked decent with Dart & Skataboo.
Better than decent with Dart & Skattabo. If Dart is out next week, start Winston who is signed through next season. A waste of time starting Wilson at this point.
Daboll and company have lost four games this season where they’ve had a 95% win probability. They’ve done far too many designed QB runs with Dart, and this concussion is a consequence of that. He coaches to not lose. He should be fired tomorrow morning. But neither he nor Shane Bowen will be.
Also, Daboll *did* have a say in signing Russell Wilson. He’s not entirely blameless in bringing in Wilson.
Agree. Too many QB running plays. Why??
Partly because the receiver and running back groups have been without two of their best players… And partly because it works with guys like Allen and Daniel Jones. Problem with Dart is he rarely slides. He’s a tough kid, but this is what’s going to happen if he doesn’t start sliding more often.
Hope the kid’s alright.
If Dart is out for week 11…and Wilson starts….mark it down as a loss….he’s so done…..
This is Dart’s 2nd concussion in a 3 game span….Giants need to shut him down for his health…the heck with football….Wilson is perfectly capable of running this offense
As I said above….Wilson sucks….if he starts, it’s a loss guaranteed….he hesitates, can’t scramble, can’t throw the home run ball, and can’t run any longer, PS….he also makes terrible decisions….how can you possibly say he’s capable of running this offense…..remember he was 0-3 before Dart replaced him…..and he got run out of both Pitt and Denver…..were they, as the Giants go too…crazy?
I’m with you, man. If they’re starting Wilson, there is no need to watch. Just forfeit the game and save everyone the trouble.
Expect another plane to fly over MetLife Stadium next week when Packer backers fill up the place. Maybe the plane will be a jet.
It’s a bit dopey to have your QB running around risking injury when there’s no realistic hope of reaching the playoffs. Dart isn’t getting Trevor type money but both got concussed in games that really weren’t going to matter.
So, you stop playing? This is a development year. He’s learning what it takes to play in the NFL. Part of that is learning to slide. This isn’t college, he’s now playing with grown men who hit quite a bit harder. He’ll either learn or he’ll be a vegetable eventually.
Well there’s playing and then there’s playing smart. It’s on the coaches to let Dart know he doesn’t have to be Superman and try to carry the team on his back. Winning is a team effort. There are other ways to impress your teammates that you can be a leader without getting injured in meaningless games while taking bad risks.
The fourth time he’s been evaluated for one. He takes too many hits as a scrambler.
