NOVEMBER 3: Hyatt is among the players the Giants have discussed with other teams recently, Fowler’s colleague Jordan Raanan reports. That points to a deal being possible in the near future, although nothing seems imminent at this time.
OCTOBER 29: If Jalin Hyatt has his way, he’ll be playing elsewhere after the trade deadline. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Giants wide receiver “would like a fresh start elsewhere.”
There were naturally some high hopes for the Tennessee product when the Giants selected him in the third round of the 2023 draft. However, the wideout has yet to emerge on offense. He showed flashes as a rookie, when he hauled in 23 catches for 373 yards in 17 games (seven starts).
Since then, he’s been limited to 11 total catches in 21 games, including only three receptions in five appearances this year. The receiver was a healthy scratch in Week 8, and he didn’t practice today while recovering from wisdom teeth removal.
Hyatt’s chances of leading the depth chart took a hit when the team added Malik Nabers in 2024. The Giants have also continued to be reliant on Wan’Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton, clouding Hyatt’s future role with the organization. Even with Nabers’ season-ending injury in Week 4, Hyatt has been limited to only 123 offensive snaps in 2025, with Lil’Jordan Humphrey recently leaping him on the depth chart.
As a result, Hyatt is hoping to carve out a role elsewhere. WR-needy teams will surely be targeting players with longer track records, so it’s unlikely that the 24-year-old would have many obvious suitors. Rather, Hyatt’s best chances of establishing himself would be catching on with a rebuilding squad, and that may ultimately require the player getting cut instead of traded.
Good luck out there. Jalin
Steelers could serve as the Lockett type receiver next to Metcalf
He knows two routes: run deep, and a 6-10 yard out to the sidelines. That’s it. It’s his third season and he can’t run basic WR routes. Maybe he’d do better elsewhere but if he can’t even beat Beaux Collins on the depth chart, I don’t know.
Yeah his role in Tennessee was centered around wide open go routes from the slot, which isn’t exactly a big thing in the NFL. But the Giants should send him somewhere that will at least try to use him.
Oh, for sure. If the Giants can send him elsewhere, they should. Daboll doesn’t appear to have any use for him. I’m not sure what anyone would give up for him, though? Could he even net a 7th? Maybe paired with a 7th for a 6th? Seems like his value is nil.
Teams are so desperate for WR the Giants should be able to get back the third they invested (from a contender at the bottom of the third), or a fourth. Poor misunderstood Hyatt still has his speed and his hands. The right team may be able to turn him into a very good WR3 or a fringe WR2.
No one is desperate enough to trade a third round pick for a guy who’s never gotten a real role on offense even with a team that drafted him in the third round and has also been desperate for receivers. The Giants have lost their top two receivers and he still only has nine targets this year. He has 34 catches in two and a half seasons and only has one year left on his rookie deal. His price should be more like a late round pick swap.
There’s no point in giving up a third round WR for a late-round pick swap. Hyatt is a 4.4 WR and a Fred Biletnikoff Award winner. There’s no reason to give him away.
So Jalin Hyatt can retire if that’s what he wants the Giants to do. Instead Hyatt can ride the pine and improve his route running and work on resilience on slot catches over-the-middle. That way the Giants will get some value from Hyatt and he can make himself more attractive to the teams who might trade for him.
You as Mr Player Friendly and no Zero Accountability will of course advocate that the Giants have to give in to Hyatt’s demands and even give him a free release if that’s what he wants.
Why don’t you tell us all again how the Atlanta Falcons have to release Kirk Cousins if they won’t start him? Even if their first round pick has an injury history and Cousins’s money is all guaranteed.
I’m not being player friendly here and I said nothing about his demand other than it making sense for the Giants to trade him if they’re never going to like him enough to play him. I’m saying no team would trade a 3rd or even 4th round pick (without a pick swap that bridges most of the gap) for a former third round pick that his drafting team doesn’t use at all, even when they’re out of receivers. Heck, the Panthers traded Mingo and a seventh for a fourth a year and a half after taking him in the second round. Hyatt’s college award and combine speed don’t matter more than his complete inability to carve out a role in three seasons. Lots of fast guys bust.
And you seem to be making something up that I never said about Cousins.
A third rounder?!? Oh, my. If anyone gives up more than a 6th rounder, they need to be fired on the spot. Hyatt can’t crack the WR rotation on a team that is so desperate for WRs that they’re bringing in Ray Ray McCloud and Diontae Jones. Who are both, by the way, far better than Hyatt yet the Giants were able to scoop up for nothing.
As I said above, Hyatt has been in the league for a few years and still doesn’t know how to run basic WR routes. He has shown absolutely nothing in the NFL. If he’s traded for anything more than a 6th, I’ll eat my hat.
Can we blame the head coach or offensive coordinator now? Jobs looks like a possible stud after going somewhere else and Hyatt is another possible miss. Yes he was a third rounder but are they really getting the best out of him?
Im a Bills fan starved for WRs and Im like …nah.
Daboll: “The good news is you’re getting a fresh start Jalin…the bad news is it’s with the Jets”.
Daboll is a dead coach walking. Hyatt could catch on with the Skins given the carnage they had vs. Seattle.
The Commies/Redskins have almost no picks left in 2026, but yes Hyatt would be an upgrade on some the stone hands or fumbleitis infected WR in DC.
Skins need a kick returner with Luke McCaffrey done for the year. Hyatt saw KR duty vs. San Francisco.
Whats “elsewhere?” The CFL, UFL? Running a MetLife Stadium parking lot?
Concierge at a Regency Hotel might be a good fit.
Trade Dexter Lawrence. Trade Thibs. Break it down. Only have 5 mil available cap for offseason. Need to get picks to build the team back up
Might be tempted to trade Dex but we don’t really know what’s going on with him that is causing his performance to be so different this season but definitely don’t trade Thibs unless somebody is giving us a #1…..finally got the semblance of a pass rush and no need to break it down and start over for anything less than a #1
I get it. I like Dex but having him on the roster right now is a waste. This team is not built to win within the next 2-3 years. Trade him and get something big back while you can. What does thibs do? Nothing, they run at him all day long. It’s him who can’t stop the run. He won’t be signed along term so get back what you can and look to build for next season. My opinion on it.
Their defense is horrendous under Shane Bowen and your plan is to trade away Lawrence and Thibs? This is the NFL. A better DC and a good draft and this defense would be solid enough to win some games. No reason to break it down unless they were offered a king’s ransom for Lawrence, which given his 2025 production under Bowen, they wouldn’t be.
Pair him up with Metkalf or send him to the Niners. Shanahan would use him way better than Daboll
