TODAY: Perryman’s suspension has been upheld, per Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.
DECEMBER 22: The Chargers’ defense has been among the league’s best in 2025. The unit is set to be shorthanded for the closing stages of the regular season, however.
Linebacker Denzel Perryman has been issued a two-game suspension, the NFL announced on Monday. Perryman’s discipline comes in the wake of repeated violations of “playing rules intended to protect the health and safety of players.” This ban stems from a play during yesterday’s game against the Cowboys.
“During the second quarter, Perryman was penalized for unnecessary roughness for delivering a forcible blow to the helmet of Cowboys wide receiver Ryan Flournoy while he was on the ground after making a catch,” a league statement reads in part (h/t Ian Rapoport of NFL Network).
Perryman received an unnecessary roughness penalty on the play in question. He is eligible to appeal the suspension. Otherwise, the 33-year-old will be sidelined for Week 17 against the Texans and Week 18 against the Broncos. Los Angeles sits at 11-4 on the year. The season finale against Denver could prove to be pivotal in deciding the AFC West and potentially the No. 1 seed in the conference.
KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson reports Perryman will indeed appeal his suspension. The hearing on the matter will take place tomorrow. As a result, it will not take long to find out if the two-game ban will be upheld or if its length will be reduced. Perryman has totaled 47 tackles in 10 games this season, his second with the Chargers.
Los Angeles ranks in the top 10 in the NFL across several defensive categories this season. Maintaining that level of play will be critical down the stretch and into the playoffs. As it stands now, however, Perryman will not be available for the next two weeks.

Wonder what DK Metcalf fines/suspension gonna be
How times have changed, eh? He’d have been called “Hitman” if he played with the Raiders, circa 1976
League has to protect these offensive players who do fashion shows before games. This team likes to hit people similar to the Seau/Harrison days …
Helmet-to-helmet hit on a defenseless player. Perryman was flagged but not disqualified.
Owners are paying players tens of millions of dollars now. They don’t want harm to come to their investment.
It’s football.
So you get the same punishment for too many personal fouls as you do for PUNCHING A FAN IN THE FACE!!??!!!! Yeah that sounds about right. Wonder what the motivation for NFL wanting to sweep that one under the rug quickly and quietly could possibly be
This guy doesn’t care or get it & never will.
When his appeal was being reviewed, a red flag should have shot up, resulting in a fine with harsher discipline.
The commissioners designee on the case must have played in The NFL cause suspending him for a 6th violation with the same number of games without a fine wont change his behavior, ever.
That dang brain problem affecting NFLers is alive and well, on both sides of this appeal.
He’s half way to Burficts number but I have confidence in him to get there!

@bwood. They honestly should do a clean slate every year. If your a 33/34 year old defender having 6 violations especially when they changed the rules three different times isnt egregious.
Denzel Perryman has 10 career penalties for Unnecessary Roughness/Roughing the Passer but was only fined 4 times and suspended twice.
DeMarcus Lawrence has 10 penalties with 5 fines and 1 PED suspension.
Damien Willams/ Devin White/ Myles Jack/ Anthony Hitchens have 6 or 7 Unnecessary Roughness/Roughing the Passer penalties but not all were fineable/suspendable.
All other LB penalties, that I found, from 2015-2025 were half or more than half of Perrymans.
Are you saying with the rule changes he is getting more fineable/suspendable penalties cause the rules are so weak that him whispering sweet nothings in an opposing players ear draws the flag?
Maybe I’m picking on him but his history as a whole seem egregious, even just the “6” does.
He just doesn’t seem to get it or maybe he does but doesn’t care.
Either way, I have a feeling he wont be getting much of anything in under 10yrs.
