The NFL has awarded compensatory draft picks for teams in the 2026 draft. Based on an add/subtract formula that covers the 2025 free agency period, comp picks span from Round 3 to Round 7. The higher picks go to the teams that endured the most significant free agent losses.
This year, the NFL awarded 33 comp picks. The comp pick formula assigns picks to franchises who suffered the largest net losses, so teams that signed multiple free agents have a lesser chance of receiving picks.
Sorted by round and by team, here are the league’s 2026 compensatory selections:
By round:
Round 3: Vikings (No. 97), Eagles (98), Steelers (99), Jaguars (100, from Lions*)

* = awarded for Lions DC Aaron Glenn becoming Jets’ HC
The Bears lost a minority executive to a GM role, with Ian Cunningham taking over in Atlanta. But the NFL will not award Chicago two third-round picks for that hire because the Falcons have Matt Ryan positioned as their president of football. Although Cunningham — Chicago’s assistant GM for four years — holds plenty of organizational say, Ryan is atop its front office hierarchy. The Bears disagree with the NFL’s ruling, per NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo.
Bears GM Ryan Poles confirmed (via ESPN.com’s Courtney Cronin) the team spoke with the NFL about the matter, but the league did not rule in the team’s favor. Had this decision gone the Bears’ way, they would have received third-round picks in the 2026 and ’27 drafts.

That’s a complete joke. Cunningham said hes the gm and Matt Ryan said Ian has final say on the roster sooooo
So what? They are not the first team and won’t be the last team to get screwed out of a pick. The thing is it is a pick and no guarantee to amount to anything.
Ok Roger Goodell, er I mean “The Boogeyman”.
The falcons last GM was Terry Fontenot who they plucked from the saints. Terry Fontenot reported to Rich McKay who was the top football executive. The saints got comp picks for Fontenot, the NFL is being inconsistent
1000% absolute crap
Yeah, a rule’s a rule. Without discussing its merits, I think we can all agree that it should be applied evenly if it exists. In true NFL fashion, I’d expect it to get revised next year, with no relief for Atlanta.
There’s also the reason the rule is there in the first place- To encourage the advancement of qualified minority candidates. Period. The NFL’s ruling is based on semantics and completely goes against the spirit of why the rule even exists. The Bears were robbed.
This should absolutely be the end of the Rooney Rule. It’s been a sham since the day those idiots thought it up It doesn’t get minorities hired it just gets them bogus interviews and billionaires are still gonna do whatever they want anyway. It’s a POS rule designed by a POS owner that does nothing for anybody. Bears should sue Goodell. They violated the rule for all intents and purposes.
Final pick Denver if not traded. Their last Mr. Irrelevant was 2017 pick of Chad Kelly who’s career lasted for 1 play. He took a knee before halftime in 2018 against the Rams. He does have 2 rings in the CFL however.
Bucs never get comp picks.
GM ought to take notes from Howie in Philly.
Is there a typo here?
Jaguars (100, from Lions*)
* = awarded for Lions DC Aaron Glenn becoming Jets’ HC
Jaguars get a pick because the Jets’ hire the Lions as HC?
Lions got a comp pick for Aaron Glenn then trade it to Jacksonville.
thanks….
