The Cardinals hold the No. 3 pick in next week’s draft, the same slot as their original position in the 2023 draft. That year, they traded down to the fifth pick and still landed coveted offensive tackle Paris Johnson.
The Cardinals may make a similar move this year. They are considered a strong candidate to move down from the No. 3 pick, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. It could be an especially valuable selection in a draft class that is viewed as thin on elite talent that drops sharply by the middle of the first round and plateaus into the second round. The Raiders are expected to take Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza first with the Jets deciding between Ohio State’s Arvell Reese and Texas Tech’s David Bailey for No. 2. Whichever does not end up in New York could be a target for teams trading up to Arizona’s pick.
The Cardinals also have holes to fill all over their roster, so they may prefer trading back and targeting the strong Day 2 depth of this class. Their wide variety of needs is one of the reasons they are seen as a wild card in this year’s draft, according to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones.
“Arizona Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort is known to be willing to make a draft-day deal,” Jones writes. “You’ll hear plenty about teams being willing to trade down in this year’s draft, and I think the Cardinals are serious contenders to do just that. Looking around the league, folks believe the draft begins at No. 3 and no one seems to have a very good sense of what Arizona will do.”
Ossenfort could conceivable target any position except for cornerback and tight end with his premium picks, and the Cardinals still need some depth at the latter position. That will allow him to take a true ‘best player availlable’ approach as he attempts to rebuild the roster for new head coach Mike LaFleur.

This is shaping up to be one of those drafts where you could gain by doing something weird. In other words the guy the Bears probably want the Safety Theinemen will be gone by 25. So you trade up to like 12 by offering one of their seconds. Then trade back down and add another second that was higher than one of theirs and end up with 2 higher picks and your guy. I could see something like that happening with a lot of teams. Lot’s of unease about this draft might make for a bunch of moving around. There isn’t a lot of sure fire stuff to be found in this round.
You think a team is going to trade up in the first round during the draft and then trade back down in that same window before picking?
I said it would be weird but doable. If you did it right and ended up with 2 higher picks than you had why not? Is it the word ” Weird” That’s throwing you? LOL I think this is going to be a strange draft and round 1 might take 2 days to finish. It might last until midnight.
Hey Unclemike I understand and appreciate your comment but why would a team take the Bears offer when another team is offering higher picks like you said?
Well for one I never said that another team was offering more and they should take the Bears offer? Where did I say that? Uh nowhere right? That would be dumb. But the Bears have other things to offer like Kmet, Kyler Gordon, and Dexter to name a few. The Bears have to reduce Cap, Are expected to draft a DT and a S and have to clear out around 10 million of Cap space just to sign who they draft. The Bears will be active because they have to be. They have Turner, Dexter, Jarret and Street for DT and are supposed to draft one. Jarrett is unmovable and Turner is coming off an ACL and probably is too. You can’t trade guys you just signed so that makes the only guy to go would be Dexter.Bears have JJ, Bryant, Stevenson, Gordon, Cam Lewis, Blackwell, Terrell Smith, Zah Frazier? so it’s over crowded to say the least. They need money and more picks because they don’t have a 5th or 6th. Pretty sure Poles and Johnson will be active and busy.
Actually, Arizona traded the 3rd overall pick to Houston, who took Will Anderson, and received their pick (12th overall), and a ‘24 1st rd pick. Then Arizona traded with Detroit back up to 6th overall to take Paris Johnson, and Detroit moved to 12th overall taking J Gibbs.
I havent watched football in a while, trying to get up to speed. Does Aneas Williams still play?
Yes. On Madden 2020.
