It’s going to be extremely hard for any team to trust Johnny Manziel and that’s why the quarterback is taking extra steps to try and repair his image. To show that he is serious this time around, Manziel plans to volunteer for testing under the NFL’s drug policy as a part of his comeback attempt, a source tells Alex Marvez of the Sporting News.

The skeptic’s take on this would be that Manziel is simply volunteering for something that would be required of him anyway. Now, considered a “Stage Two” offender under the league’s drug policy, he would already be subject to random drug testing if signed by an NFL team. It remains to be seen whether Manziel is going to offer himself up to an even more rigorous random testing standard in the style of USADA’s monitoring.
Manziel has started working with quarterback guru George Whitfield Jr. to polish his skills and get back into football shape, Marvez hears. This week, he appeared in Houston to sign autographs but he declined to speak to the press.
Will the NFPA allow him to submit himself to higher testing standards?
He is already subject to them so I don’t think it matters that he is “volunteering”

No one can honestly say they wouldn’t make the same exact mistakes as him coming in to the league at barley twenty years old .. I’m still rooting for ya Johnny hopefully he can catch on somewhere with a two year deal as a backup and earn his way back
Plenty of people can. In fact – look at how many kids do come into the league at his age without screwing up consistently. Good on him for trying to sort himself out, but his issues aren’t because of his age – they are because he’s been an idiot.

Saw him put up 370 yards on the Steelers in Heinz Field with absolutely nobody to protect him or get open for him, the dude obviously had NFL-caliber talent and was just unfortunate enough to get his first chance with the Browns. Hope he’s past his problems and gets another chance

His only chance at making it in the NFL is as a backup at best… and with that he’s got an uphill climb. But who knows, there will probably be a blind owner who’ll give him a chance.
