49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick reached out to new general manager John Lynch soon after the latter was hired, and today Kaepernick ventured to Niners headquarters to meet with Lynch and new head coach Kyle Shanahan face-to-face, according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com. Lynch later called the talk a “really positive discussion,” per Maiocco, but wouldn’t divulge any further information about the content of the summit.

Kaepernick, who is currently without an agent, holds an opt-out provision that would allow him to hit the free agent market this spring. While reports have varied, Kaepernick may still be deciding whether to exercise that clause in his contract. Whether or not he does could end up being moot, as the 49ers may simply release Kaepernick if he doesn’t opt out, especially given that the club has already been linked to a number of other quarterbacks.
If he does reach free agency, the 29-year-old Kaepernick would hit the market along with other signal-callers such as Mike Glennon, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Brian Hoyer, while passers like Tony Romo, Jay Cutler, and Tyrod Taylor may also soon become available. Among that group, Kaepernick is among those with the most recent success, as he tossed 16 touchdowns against only four picks in 2016.

Now for my sincere opinion on Kap. I believe he can be a decent quarterback in the league with some solid coaching. I believe he is worthy of playing in the NFL . With that in mind he needs to not worry about politics or worldly things that are not of his concern. He is being paid a lot of money to be a quarterback, not an activist. Im not dogging his beliefs nor am i dogging his background. I believe the 49ers owner should have put a stop to his nonsense the minute it happened. Kap needs to put the team first. Good teams dont have petty distractions that take focus away from the team. With all that being said i wish him luck. I think he needs a fresh start in a different city . If he plays in Santa Clara he will always have this hanging over him. I wonder if maybe now he knows he screwed up.. lessons learned.
I agree with you on some things, but I could be wrong I feel he gets so much heat for this because he isn’t a great player, or putting up excellent numbers. If a Brady or Rodgers did what he did they wouldn’t be getting as much hate.
I do disagree with the Hes a QB not an activist, I believe it’s important for celebrities and athletes to be activists for what they believe in as it brings awareness to the public. However he went about this wrong, if he had just said I don’t agree with what’s happening to African Americans in this country. And he countinued to stand out of respect for vets and soldiers. No one would lose their mind. Everyone focused on what he did rather than what he did it for
Lastly as I said I feel he went about this wrong, however I respect the courage it took to do it.
