On Monday, the Raiders shipped Amari Cooper to the Cowboys in exchange for a 2019 first-round pick. It’s a surprisingly strong return for a player who was struggled mightily as of late, but Jon Gruden says he won’t press his luck with another blockbuster in the next week.

“We’re not trading anyone else,” Gruden told Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com (on Twitter) when asked about the possibility of moving quarterback Derek Carr. “We’re trying to stay competitive and figure out a way to compete this next game [against the Colts.]”
Interestingly, GM Reggie McKenzie had a decidedly different answer when asked about the possibility of another deal.
“We’ve got another week,” McKenzie said (Twitter link via Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area), before declining to say that anyone on the roster is untouchable.
After their bye week, the Raiders will face the Colts on Sun. Oct 28, just two days before the trade deadline. If Gruden is to be believed, the Raiders will still have Carr under center and their other notables in action.
AJ Mccarron is a much better QB than Carr. This Kid lead Alabama two Back to Back National champingships he’s no slouch. I just want Gruden to try AJ just one game I bet there would be a new starting QB. Give AJ the Start Gruden what could it hurt at this point.
You’re a joke gruden, your word means nothing. Have fun in Vegas.
Someones mad.
Pretty sure Gruden would prefer to have Mack & Cooper but has no say in trades.
Yes, the Raiders are dumping all their salary liabilities before their move… And why not? Its all about the benjamins and Vegas fans wont mind so long as they get a team.
Gruden has final say in trades. You think Reggie is immediately dealing away his core and all the players he drafted? This is all Gruden.
Gruden still hasn’t even talked to the team about the deal. He says one thing and does the opposite. Nobody gonna wanna play for him.
Bout to be litty out in Vegas
Can anyone translate this?
Competitive lol
I don’t know how anyone that plays for Gruden, and Raiders fans can trust what Gruden says for a long time. All we’ve heard is we’re not trading ______ only for that player to get traded, if you want to trade a player grow some and say you want to trade them. I’m 100% sure players and fans would rather be told the truth than blindsided.
Gruden is not the GM. Cant make trades. Would def want Mack & Cooper on his team. Hes a head coach.
Gruden has a 10 year deal. He’s definitely the one saying yes or no to these trades. It’s his roster and he gets to make the decisions, not the GM Reggie McKenzie who is on his way out
Until the next trade.
To be fair every coach does this.
Agreed. Gruden is just more front & center because of his name and the names of the players being traded.
But when gruden came in he didn’t call it a rebuild, he said the most important thing was winning in Oakland. But he’s just burning it to the ground so
Raiders are just playing Vegas right now…
If they said they wanted to trade said player they wouldn’t get as good of a return.
Saying they aren’t going to be traded could well be a tactic to make sure teams are calling with their strongest offer out of the gate. It’s pretty brutal for Raiders fans though.
People have absolutely no clue what they are talking about. Why are you mad? The Raiders sucked before Gruden got there! Cooper hasn’t looked good at all! The Raiders defense is a joke! These draft picks are setting them up really nicely! They can get another WR in the draft or in FA and can get a couple really good defensive players in the draft as well. This is about building for the future. Get over it.
Tank for Tua. Trades Joseph and Carr next.
This is multi year. Going to be The Vegas Crimson Tide in 2 years.
Keep on trading. I don’t get why more teams don’t trade their players for more first round picks.
You want a list of all first round busts? Years ago George Allen (best winning percentage of anyone with more than 150 games coached) proved that acquiring a veteran pays better dividends than playing the draft lottery.
Gruden would certainly be willing to deal Carr if there were a suitable replacement. The ten year contract gives him time to draft and develop an heir but he tends to favor veterans. That is a problem since many of the league’s veteran QBs are soon to retire.
That’s a pretty shocking strong return for Cooper. As much as I think Chucky has no clue what he’s doing, he hit a home run here.
That Dallas 1st will end up being about #15 next year.
Could you imagine what OBJ or Antonio Brown would be worth in a trade? 3 number ones??? Wow.
Corey Coleman was also selected 15th not too long ago.
Draft picks are no sure thing, and bust as often, if not more often, than they hit
a #1 pick for cooper. thats a win for gruden. theyre gonna finish bad so thats 2 top ten picks. 2 top ten picks for vegas
The bears nor the cowboys will finish with a top 10 pick. Those are 6 win teams or less….
duhhh on my part… lol…2 first round picks i should say…
There’s nothing stopping him from trading other picks for veterans. So just googling for some info to support my thought process. He’s got 5 1sts over 2 years. He wants Tua, guaranteed – so he’ll trade Carr to get more ammo for 2020.
But your likelihood of drafting a Pro Bowler is obviously higher from round in 1 to 2 to 3 to 4, etc. So why not put your eggs in that 1st round basket, trade your 3s, 4s, 5s for veterans and fill your holes that way. But you can only do that if you clear out salary cap. Somewhere in here you have to get an OL.
2019 Target: Nick Bosa
2020 Target: Tua Tagovailoa

Z-A – you are spot on. The Raiders want the picks to use for Tua.
