Latest On Laremy Tunsil

Appearing on NFL Live earlier today, Texans offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil unsurprisingly confirmed that’s aiming to become the NFL’s top-paid offensive lineman if and when he reaches a long-term deal with Houston.

“I’m not going to talk numbers, as I’m going to keep that between me and the club,” Tunsil said, as Field Yates of tweets. “I am looking to be the highest-paid lineman, of course. I worked my butt off to be in that position and hopefully we can make that happen.”

Tunsil didn’t want to talk specific figures, but numbers have been reported. Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle recently indicated the Texans are willing to make Tunsil the league’s highest-paid lineman and have offered an annual salary of $18.5MM, $500K more per year than the Eagles’ Lane Johnson collects.

Tunsil is reportedly looking to top $18.5MM annually, but it’s unclear just how much more he’s searching for. A $20MM/year pact would represent a significant increase in the offensive tackle market, but given that Houston sacrificed two first-round picks and a second-rounder to land Tunsil from the Dolphins last offseason, the 25-year-old holds all the leverage in talks.

The 13th overall selection in the 2016 draft, Tunsil will earn $10.35MM in 2019, the final year of his rookie pact. The Texans could conceivably retain him through 2021 by deploying consecutive franchise tags, but an extension seems far more likely.

The Texans give up 2 firsts and a second for an OT seeking $20M while the Redskins struggle to get a second for their OT who is seeking the same amount. Does anything seem wrong with that picture?

Tunsil had more control at an undervalued rookie deal and minimal inury history and is over half a decade younger…clear the picture up at all?

Don’t get me wrong, the Texans still overpaid. As a dolphins fan, this pleased me. But there was still more value in tunsil than Williams

Makes sense from the perspective Tunsil is worth 20 and Williams isn’t because of age and injury.
What doesn’t make sense is 2 first and a second for Tunsil and Skins can’t get a second

Williams sat out all season last year. And is threatening to do it again. This greatly hurts his trade value. who’s to say he won’t do it to the next team

Wrong with that picture is the chance he says their helmet doesn’t fit without pain and he won’t play…unless they sweeten the pot again ($$$) which would miraculously cure that.

Dolphins got a great return from the Texans. 2 first and a second for a rebuilding team that’s solid. Now with Flores as coach they have had a good offseason making a decent defence and will draft a franchise QB and co to us to improve

in theory they got a great return. It doesn’t mean diddly squat if they don’t get any talent with those draft picks

He better get paid because the way O’Brien has decimated that team being the highest paid lineman is the only award he is winning.

What will Stanley get in Baltimore? He is the best left tackle. Check the numbers. $22/year? Huge numbers.
