It sounds like Odell Beckham Jr. is trying to force his way out of Cleveland, and the Browns wideout may get his wish. A source told Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com that Beckham’s stint with the Browns has likely come to an end, and the only question is how the organization will let go of the veteran receiver.

Beckham’s contract is the main complication surrounding a divorce. The wideout is still owed $8MM this season, and there’s a limited number of teams with the required cap space to claim the player off waivers. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler tweets that Beckham could also “claim termination pay,” ensuring he’ll receive the rest of his money. If Beckham isn’t claimed on waivers, this means the Browns would be left with a significant chunk of dead cap.
The Browns considered moving Beckham at the deadline, discussing a trade with the Saints. Ultimately, the team held on to the receiver, but that was before the player’s father took to social media to criticize Baker Mayfield and the quarterback’s inability to click with his top receiver. Then, LeBron James chimed in, seemingly urging the Browns to trade his friend before the deadline. One day later, Beckham is still in Cleveland, though he’s absent from practice with a “personal matter”. For what it’s worth, Mayfield said earlier today that he’d welcome a conversation with Beckham and would prefer the receiver sticks with the team.
Beckham, 29 on Friday, has four 1,000+ yard seasons to his credit, but has yet to approach his gaudy 2015 and 2016 numbers with the Giants. Following a 2020 campaign where OBJ was limited to only 319 receiving yards in seven games, the veteran has collected 232 receiving yards in six games this season.
The Jets are definitely in position to claim someone like him. you take a chance on getting a number one receiver. if he disrupts the locker room you can cut him

You’re right, while folks who are disgusted by these athletes do not have to watch them perform, there’s two elements in play: the human element and those who enable them.
The human element was already made – appreciate the gift you have and don’t abuse it, not everyone is as fortunate. The second is the fans who enable the opportunity and payout. Without them, OBJ is pumping out spreadsheets and playing tag football on weekends.
OBJ is hurting his brand and when that happens there is monetary damage and possible/eventual closure in the business world. Paid athletes are not far off from the same outcomes.

I’m a Browns fan and as much as I would prefer that they just let him sit at home instead of releasing him and be on the hook for his salary anyway – there’s also the image that presents to the players in the locker room and any prospective free agents going forward. Just play him like normal. If he doesn’t perform, he doesn’t perform. Everyone can see Beckham’s behavior and has their own opinions. He can choose to help the team and make a strong case for himself simultaneously, or he can pout and let his teammates and outside observers judge him. Either way, the Browns won’t be the ones taking hits here.
I’m sure that, if this stuff is true, his teammates see more of this than any of us. Nobody worth anything would side with Beckham if he’s not trying hard or purposefully sabotaging his team. Players talk, coaches talk, associates talk. So if I’m Cleveland, I’m playing Beckham in whatever capacity I can since I am stuck with his contract. If he is outperformed (by, say, Rashard Higgins), he moves down. But I won’t purposefully not use him. Either he steps up and performs, helping himself and his team, or he proves the Browns blameless and makes himself look selfish.

The Saints could not have afforded to trade for Beckham because they were only 800,000 under the cap and Beckham makes what 14 Million.
