With Matt Ryan being traded to the Colts, the list of potential landing spots for Jimmy Garoppolo has gotten smaller. The move will likely have an impact on his trade value, although the 49ers reportedly have a relatively strong market for Garoppolo already.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, 49ers general manager John Lynch “is telling interested teams that he has an offer in hand of two second round picks” for the outgoing quarterback. That would constitute twice the price San Francisco paid to acquire him from the Patriots in 2017. More notably, it would outstrip the compensation from the Ryan and Carson Wentz deals.
It has been thought the 49ers would move on from Garoppolo, 30, once they drafted Trey Lance third overall last year. Not surprisingly, then, they were reportedly fielding trade calls on him earlier this month. Any move would be complicated not only by the rest of the market, but also Garoppolo’s recent surgery as well as his contract status. He carries a cap hit of just under $27MM for one more season on his current deal.
Florio lists the Seahawks as a potential trade destination. The Colts were long thought to be interested in the former Patriot, but the acquisition of Ryan eliminates them from contention. With the Falcons and Saints signing Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston, respectively, they are likewise doubtful to be interested. Seattle added Drew Lock in the Russell Wilson deal, but the NFC West squad is one of a dwindling number of teams – another potentially being the Panthers – facing questions about its starting QB.
If the 49ers do indeed have a noteworthy offer available to them, one of the last dominoes in this year’s QB market could fall in the near future.

Ill play devils advocate on this one. Lets say he is telling the truth and its the seahawks who offered the 2 second rounders. Would you trade jimmy within the division or wait and see if a team outside the division will offer anything remotely close?
Because personally id rather take 2 thirds from any other non nfc west team than take 2 seconds from the seahawks and improve their team drastically
If Seattle is offering the 2 – second rounders, I would jump on it! On paper, it sure looks like Seattle is going to stink and the 2nd next year could be Top 40! And possibly 2023’s as well.

My guess is he actually stays another season. Lance isn’t ready to take the niners deep into the playoffs just yet. There’s no point giving Jimmy away if it makes you worse and another team better just wait on it

Sitting another year isn’t a bad option, it worked out well for Aaron Rodgers in GB. If he goes out there and struggles right away without having a fallback option they will be in trouble. That’s already a tough division and Seattle might end up surprising people despite losing Wilson.

No. And since when does Florio have any credibility? He doesn’t concern himself with being factual, just sensational.
Baker Mayfield is also still out there in the field playing musical QB chairs. If teams doubt Jimmy G’s shoulder’s health, Baker may get the next open chair.

The roster is now in worse shape than it was at the end of the season. And yet we have fans saying “sure, let’s carry that $27M cap hit one more year because Trey’s not ready.” Waiting until camp on a team to magically give up more for Jimmy then, while letting all the good FA’s pass you by because you have no cap space is GM malpractice.
But it goes beyond that because Lynch, Shanahan, and York are all deluded into thinking the Niners are only 1-2 plays away from the Super Bowl next year, when they can’t even field a respectable O-Line or defensive backfield, and are thinner than last season. But sure, let’s go into ’22 with Jimmy and see where that gets us. Oh, that’s right: a compensatory 3rd.

Lol from the looks of Lance, it wouldn’t hurt for him to sit out another year. Sure he can run the ball, but man he def can’t throw the ball just yet. Defensive reads are still slow to him. Unless you want another Jalen Hurts debacle in the NFL I’d say play Jimmy G and let Lance soak in another year.
Another Jalen Hurts debacle? For as critical of Hurts as I am Lantz is miles behind him. Lantz should’ve been drafted where Hurts was, not where he went. He required using up so much draft capital for a reach when he requires a couple of redshirt years.
