Travis Homer is sticking in Chicago. The running back is re-signing with the Bears, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Homer is inking a one-year, $2MM deal.
The 26-year-old has spent the past two seasons in Chicago, appearing in 26 total games. He’s emerged as a key special teamer for the Bears, compiling 13 tackles across the two campaigns while appearing in more than 60 percent of his squad’s special teams snaps.
After getting into 16 games during his debut season in Chicago, Homer was limited to 10 appearances in 2024. He got his first offensive look with the Bears this past season, collecting 34 yards from scrimmage on nine touches. The majority of his offensive looks came when Roschon Johnson was out of the lineup.
He had much more offensive responsibility during his first four years in Seattle, where he collected 917 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns on 135 touches. The Bears are expected to return the same D’Andre Swift-led backfield in 2025, but with only Ian Wheeler providing current competition at RB3, Homer could see a greater uptick in offensive playing time.
“…Homer could see a greater uptick in offensive playing time.”
Um, no he won’t. I will agree, Homer IS a solid core special teams player. But, if Homer sees significant offensive touches, it’s because we’re slammed with injuries… so, let’s home it doesn’t come to that.
This writer hasn’t done much research to come to that conclusion. They’ll draft a running back, work on developing Johnson and barring any major injuries, Homer will not see any uptick in plays.
The Bears are going to draft a RB somewhere. Swift isn’t going anywhere this year. Ian Wheeler is an interesting guy coming off an injury who could play Sp Teams. I’m not positive Johnson stays either. He can’t stay on the field and is a walking concussion. I still wouldn’t expect this guy to make the team as long as everyone is healthy. He’s a horrible running back and if you ask me is no Sp Teams whiz either. If they can’t find somebody better than him even with injuries something is wrong. There are unemployed RB’s every year better. Confusing signing. Guess you need to find 90 bodies for camp.
I always root for him, but then, I’m a HOMER !!
With that last name, shouldn’t he be playing BASEBALL ??
Great person. Smart person. He has the ability to break out. But he isn’t psycho. People with his build only do good if they legit don’t care about being hit constantly. Love this guy. Huge fan of his weight training and bulk. But as far as career. He’s a career ST. And that better than everyone else on PFTR. lol
Yoked!!!
Waste of money and a roster spot.
A veteran special teams guy is underrated. Depth at running back in case of safety. He isn’t trash. Workhorse. He just remembers contact. Although it robs a rookie of a 1 year ST deal I guess. lol
He was solid in Seattle. Solid receiver out of the backfield and had a good YPC for such a small back.
Not a bad guy to keep around and force a young guy to beat him out for a spot.
If he was so good in Seattle why is he here? Why didn’t they keep him? Exactly
Because he’s a third string running back, and they are always drafting those guys. They drafted Kenny McIntosh the year they let him walk, I’m pretty sure.
You’re weird.
Such a waste of money and a roster spot
