The hold-ins keeping Terry McLaurin and Trey Hendrickson off the field have come to an end this week. No resolution on the Micah Parsons front appears imminent, however.
Parsons’ trade request still stands, and the thought of a departure from the Cowboys will remain a talking point until and unless an extension agreement can be reached. By and large, teams do not view a Parsons trade as being viable and Dallas does not intend to pull off a deal. At least one potential suitor is worth watching in this case, though.
Whispers about the Packers looking into a Parsons trade have picked up recently, and Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports the team is indeed “interested.” Of course, that would no doubt apply to any number of potential landing spots for the All-Pro edge rusher, and Florio cautions Green Bay’s interest is “nowhere near the smoke that’s out there.”
When speaking to the media on Wednesday, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst was asked about the late-summer trade market. Without mentioning Parsons by name, he left the door open to a notable move taking place. If Green Bay were to swing a deal, pass rush could represent a logical target.
“You’re never one player away, but good players make impacts,’ Gutekunst said (via Ryan Wood of USA Today). “Any time there’s a player of that caliber you can acquire, you’re trying to.”
Parsons and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones have escalated tensions over a lack of communication involving agent David Mulugheta regarding extension talks. Any new deal which is reached will no doubt make him the highest-paid edge rusher in the NFL, something Jones has stated he communicated a willingness over to Parsons when the two spoke this spring. In the absence of a long-term pact, though, a campaign spent on the fifth-year option is in store.
Parsons is slated to collect $24.01MM this season as a result, although Florio reports a grievance was filed earlier this offseason regarding the value of the one-year tender. Edge rushers often encounter situations such as this based on the variance in value between outside linebackers and defensive ends. Parsons is currently viewed by the Cowboys as a DE, something which would drop his option value to $21.32MM. The former Defensive Rookie of the Year and his camp, by contrast, are attempting to have him classified as an OLB.
A number Parsons’ Pro Bowl and All-Pro nods have come with him listed as a linebacker, but the key determinant in this situation is his most common position played in 2023 (his third NFL season). Circumstances such as this often result in a compromise being agreed to between team and player regarding the option value, but the Parsons-Jones relationship is – at least publicly – rather strained at the moment. That could complicate efforts to resolve this matter, which is of course small in comparison to extension talks.
A back issue has been present in Parsons’ case for much of the summer while he has remained a non-participant in training camp. The 26-year-old recently underwent an MRI which came back clean, but this layer to the ongoing saga may not be over. NFL Network’s Jane Slater reports Parsons is now seeking a second opinion on his back. It will be interesting to see what becomes of that endeavor.
Eight days remain until the Cowboys kick off the regular season; it remains unclear whether or not Parsons will suit up for that contest. Meanwhile, with a trade potentially seen as feasible, the Packers’ moves over the coming days will be worth watching closely.
Still say Denver makes more sense
Keeps Parsons out of NFC in any event
2025 1st, 2025 3rd
2026 1st, 2026 4th
Nik Bonitto
Nix is on his rookie contract for 4 more years
Youre up against Mahomes and Herbert twice a year
Keeps Parsons away from potential AFC contender
Moves your own disgruntled pass rusher in Bonitto to an NFC team
Since when is Bonito disgruntled? No way Denver is trading two firsts, a third, a fourth, AND Bonito.
Since he hasn’t gotten his contract yet and we are a week away from the season beginning. You can be disgruntled in many ways , there’s varying degrees. There’s parsons disgruntled and there’s Myles Garrett disgruntled.
2 1sts a 3rd and 4th across two drafts and bonitto in contract year is better than 3 1sts a bidding war would cause
Just because someone is known to be in talks on an extension doesn’t mean they’re disgruntled. I haven’t seen any indication of that.
And great as Parsons is, two firsts and a couple of lesser picks would be a realistic return for him without Bonito. The team that trades for him will also likely have to give out the biggest non-quarterback contract in NFL history.
Yeah I’m sure he’s elated to enter the season without a deal already in place coming off a career year and making 5 mill with the threat of a franchise tag looming. Totally ecstatic.
Parsons bidding war could reach 3 1sts.
Jalen Ramsey netted the Jaguars 2 1sts and a 4th. You’re talking about an even more prominent position in pass rusher so a 3rd and contract year player in bonitto coming off a career year isn’t that much more for a more sought after position.
Denver could get what for Bonitto? A high second is they traded him? He had an excellent 2024 after first two seasons being situational. So the track record isn’t there which is reflected in his asking price.
Bonito is just as likely to be days away from an extension being announced as he is to be disgruntled. You’re assuming something that’s far from a certainty. Ramsey went for two first and change. Mack went for two firsts and change. I doubt Parsons would draw three firsts. He certainly wouldn’t draw two firsts, a third, a fourth, and Bonito.
Also I would still bet on the Cowboys signing Parsons.
Still isn’t under contract to date. So he’s more likely disgruntled until he puts pen to paper. Then we can say he’s no longer disgruntled.
So a 3rd and 4th isn’t change despite a 4th being used in the Ramsey deal and 3rd being used in the Mack deal.
“ Ramsey went for two first and change’ (4th). Mack went for two firsts and change (3rd and 6th).”
So they’re change in other deals but not Parsons deal. I guess that makes sense. Double standard and all.
I find it interesting that he wants a huge payday as he had an MRI and is now going for a second opinion…
Well the first MRI came back pretty clean which im sure parsons wasn’t thrilled about. So why not do as many MRIs until a DR says “playing for the Cowboys is bad for your health, get traded immediately”.
Question, is Denver willing to meet Parson’s asking price for a salary extension? If not, then it’s moot point, unless Parson is more willing to play things out with Denver instead of Dallas
Are they willing? Who knows
Can they? Sure. Rookie QB contracts are a wonderful thing
Minnesota, Chicago, Denver, Jets to some extent, Colts to some extent, Panthers, Saints, all have cheap QBs so they could swing a trade for Parsons
The Jets aren’t trading multiple future firsts when they don’t have the quarterback situation settled.
And the smart money is still against Dallas trading him.
Bad teams make bad decisions.
They have a relatively cheap QB in Fields at what 20 mill? All you need to is convince woody Johnson he needs a Madden player like Parsons since woody cares about Madden ratings.
Fields is a contract they can easily get out of after one year. If he’s a disaster—and he well could be—they’ll be drafting high and looking for a QB. A team that doesn’t feel secure in a plan at QB isn’t trading multiple first rounders for a non QB.
But Madden rating
How are you giving up draft picks for a draft that has already happened? Denver can’t trade 2025 picks anymore.
Cause I make typos and constantly ask myself
WHAT YEAR IS IT like robin williams from jumanji
I can’t imagine anyone paying the price it would take to aquire him. It would be huge.
If Jerry is that stupid to trade him, I believe there are 2 to 3 teams that would consider seriously paying the price, but I would want a 10-day negoiating window to be able to sign Parsons before I agreed to a trade.
That aged well
You are a NPC. Cowboys aren’t accepting that low-ball offer. You are obviously a biased Broncos fan. Make a real trade for a future hall of famer.
“Low ball offer”
It’s comparable to Jalen Ramsey and Khalil Mack trades.
But go on lmao. Tell us you don’t know ball without telling us
This looks even dumber now, given what they got for him.
What a NPC comment.
2 1st and 3 years of 3x pro bowl DT Kenny Clark who’s 29 is less than what I suggested? LOL
Another goon who doesn’t know ball.
Denver is on the right path right now without Parsons, they are moving up on KC. Are they a threat to KC yet I say competitive wise yes. A good young team, with a Super Bowl winning HC, but if Jerry is that stupid enough to trade an All-Pro 26 year old star, I could see Denver willing to do a deal for Parsons, yes it will be a high price to pay on picks and maybe a player or two, but having Parson on a good Bronco defense already, would bring Denver even closer to KC. The other reason for Denver is they can’t let the Chargers or KC to acquire a Micah Parsons in the AFC West.
Dallas opens in Philadelphia?
HAHAHAHA
A great night for Parsons to earn his 24, I mean 21.3 million dollars …
First team that offers 3 first and 2 2nd and a 3rd pick. Cowboys done have room anyways
Probably in 2027 when Parsons on his 2nd franchise tag during the trading deadline. The Cowboys will net a king’s ransom- with 3 1st-[2028-2029-2030] and 2nd-[2030-2031] and a starting defensive player from a AFC Team
This would be the equivalent to when Reggie signed with GB in the 90s. This would be huge for them to pull off. No reason not to try. Van Ness, a first and whatever else it takes. Get it done.
Start with what Khalil Mack got the Raiders and then add much more. Van Ness is irrelevant to the trade.
The Mack trade was a one-off.
The cowboys will want at least 1 player coming back.
I guess they started with the Mack deal and added less.
As accomplished as Clark is, id say that getting him is a negative for the cowboys. His cap hit is steep and he isnt exactly young either.
This is a great deal for the packers.
Chronic back issues may end up hurting Parsons earning power long term.
He doesn’t have chronic back issues. MRI came back clean. Kind of growing tired of Parsons’ BS at this point and that’s coming from someone who thinks Jerry is a buffoon and shouldn’t be operating as the de facto GM.
The Packers mortgaging their future for this diva would be an even dumber idea than their “tush-push” proposal.
They are good enough to compete for a Super Bowl right now. Why wouldn’t they try to get the best pass rusher in the league?
He was seen at O’Hare airport today in Chicago. Per my Sources
It would be full circle. Green Bay defeated Dallas in the Ice Bowl in 1967, and now they could defeat them in the Act-Like-An-Ass Bowl in 2025…
I’m assuming the ass in your scenario is Jerry Jones.
Oh, absolutely, and I should have made that clearer!
I’d give this a 2% chance of happening.
I would assume the deal would be 2 1s and Gary plus some change. I’d be just fine with that. Jerrah wont let a player “win” a contract dispute. And even if Micah does push his way out, it won’t be to the Packers, who have owned the cowboys for 20 years and given them several painful playoff exits they’ve had in that time.
That said, even without Parsons, the Packers are a Super Bowl contender. Obviously, they’re better with him than with Gary. But people (especially NFCN rivals) are seriously sleeping on how good this team is.
Wow, a 2% chance? So you’re saying there’s a chance. A chance that a team that “has owned the Cowboys for 20 years” might acquire their best player to get even better. That’s a bold strategy, Cotton. I’m sure Jerry Jones, a man known for his calm, rational decision-making and total lack of ego, would be just “fine with that” and totally not send Micah to the AFC East out of spite.
And of course, even without Parsons, the Packers are “Super Bowl contenders.” Because what says “Super Bowl contender” more than an fan base fantasizing about trading two first-round picks and their own star pass rusher for someone else’s? Truly, that’s the mark of a team with absolutely no weaknesses and a complete sense of calm. The rest of the league is just “sleeping” on the Packers’ ability to, I don’t know, acquire a player the Cowboys have repeatedly said they’re not trading. You’re right, that’s the kind of subtle, understated confidence that wins championships.
The truth hurts, huh?
This shituation is laughable. Jerry…. go away
If Jerry Jones is a used car salesman who got lucky and raped the world for profit.
I wonder how much Jerry really wants to win v. being on the news feeds.
Again, anyone who makes me feel bad for Cowboys fans I despise and Jerry is just old white oil money trying to stay relevant in a world that has passed him by. Hire a real GM.
Congrats Eagles, looks like Game 1 is a big fat easy win. Rest your starters after the 2nd quarter.
I’m not gonna stop commenting on these articles and simply reminding everyone of one simple fact: the Jerry Micah Saga is staged as all hell, there’s literally nothing here. He will 100% be a Dallas Cowboy. His extension will be signed by the end of September. This is all a hoax I don’t buy 1 tiny bit of any of this
Pack don’t have a history of making big trades like this so for that reason I do not see it happening
I remember one that happened 51 years ago and it didn’t turn out well. The Rams fleeced Dan Devine when they shipped out John Hadl for two firsts, two seconds and a third. Just one example and it was a half century ago, but those of us who came of age during the seventies won’t forget it.
If Parsons is traded which I see as an 95-5 shot he won’t, why would the Cowboys trade Parsons to an NFC rival team? They would not want to face him in the playoffs. The only trade would be to an AFC team maybe Buffalo, KC, LA Chargers, Baltimore, but the team I really could see would be Denver it would be a long shot, but that team is really up and coming, and with Parsons on that teams defense, it could really put Denver that much closer to KC in the AFC West.
The only thing more tedious than this drama is having it played out in the media.
Play your final season … or don’t
Extend the contract … or don’t
Trade Parsons … or don’t
Follow up when a choice is made
Otherwise … ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What could the Packers give in return for this all pro edge rusher Parsons? Unless they give the Cowboys first round picks for the next two years, Clark the nose tackle, and a couple of third rounders to boot?
Not sure who won the trade but I guess I expected more than 2 1rders and Kenny Clark
