The Giants have landed on their new offensive coordinator. Matt Nagy is heading to New York, as first reported by Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Nagy had spent the past four seasons in Kansas City. After his Bears head coaching tenure ended, he returned to the Chiefs as their quarterbacks coach in 2022. For the next three seasons, Nagy operated as the team’s offensive coordinator (a role which did not involve play-calling duties). He turned down an extension offer, making it clear to head coach Andy Reid before the start of the 2025 season a departure was his intention.
The 2026 hiring cycle appeared to include a clear opportunity for Nagy to land a second HC gig. The Titans were long thought to be a destination in his case given the presence of former Chiefs front office staffer Mike Borgonzi. In the end, though, the Titans hired Robert Saleh as their new head coach. The NFL’s remaining vacancies were filled over time, leaving an offensive coordinator gig as Nagy’s next target. The 47-year-old will now take charge of an offense, with the New York OC post including the responsibility of calling plays.
The Giants were successful in their push to hire John Harbaugh as their new head coach. Once his deal was in place, many expected Todd Monken to follow Harbaugh from Baltimore to New York. The two worked with each other on the Ravens’ staff for three seasons. Harbaugh attempted to recruit Monken for the Giants’ offensive coordinator post, but the opportunity loomed for a first ever NFL head coaching opportunity with the Browns at the time. Monken wound up joining Cleveland as the team’s new head coach last week.
Monken’s decision forced Harbaugh to pivot. A long list of coordinator candidates emerged, with many receiving an interview. Nagy – who spoke with the Eagles about their OC gig – was not known to be a Giants target as of Tuesday, but he will now take charge of New York’s offense. Harbaugh was known to be seeking a veteran for this position, and Nagy fits the bill. He began his career by working on Reid’s Eagles staff before advancing to the role of offensive coordinator during his first stint with the Chiefs.
Nagy earned Coach of the Year honors in 2018, his first season at the helm of the Bears. Chicago went 12-4 that year, but Nagy did not manage a winning record during any of his three subsequent seasons in place. It remains to be seen if a second opportunity to lead a staff will come about in Nagy’s case. For now, his attention will turn to developing a young Giants offense as the team looks for immediate success under Harbaugh.
New York added quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Cam Skattebo during the 2025 draft. Both players figure to be a part of the team’s core for years to come, with the same being true of wideout Malik Nabers. The Giants ranked 17th in scoring this past season despite dealing with a number of injuries on offense and the transition from Brian Daboll to Mike Kafka as head coach. With several new faces on the sidelines, it will be interesting to see how the Giants fare in 2026.

LMAO
Always seems like the more involved Nagy is with an offense, the more he’s trying to make the quarterback play like Alex Smith. Which is unfun when it’s Mahomes and messy when it’s Trubisky. Could be an odd fit for Dart. Harbaugh’s got a pretty good track record of changing out coordinators when he needs to, so it’s not a huge concern, but this doesn’t seem ideal.
If he can continue Dart’s development and get him to value his own wellbeing a little more, that’ll be a win.
lol. Lmao even
Wtf!!!!
At least Harbaugh chose to work for Tisch BEFORE knowing.
Tisch will be gone before camp opens in July.
What about the other 2 Tisch’s that are part owners in the Giants?
I wouldn’t bet on that…the Commissioner opted for Bad Bunny as the SB halftime show and regardless of how you feel about that it shows he’s not afraid of controversy….Tisch probably has owners who would be indifferent to the Epstein issues….
The worlds most famous musician isn’t a “controversial” pick.
That is just more media and propaganda spin.
You’re comparing picking one of the most popular pop singers in the world to being on the Epstein list? You may need to reset your moral compass.
Let’s be honest…
There are a lot of people who think being a brown person is worse than being a bad person.
Bad Bunny isn’t controversial to most people.
There’s also a lot of people in this world that are clueless about many things.
Seems like a great fit.
Boy are they screwed
New York Post online headline:
“Going to the Matt
“Giants hire ex-Bears head coach as offensive coordinator”
Now THAT is a dis!
Lmao this was their backup plan? Makes me feel even better about the Mannion & Grizzard hire’s.
Well, there go all of my hopes for the season. What an awful hire.
Not as bad as bringing OBJ back but yeah it doesn’t look good.
Beckham is damaged goods and would never pass a physical. Besides, the Giants already have their diva WR in Nabers.
rct:
You really feel the offensive coordinator is going impact things that much? Coaching is important, but in the end I think it’s going be about Dart
When he’s screaming at Dart to stay in the pocket and run “his system” that he copy/pasted from Andy Reid without actually understanding it… yes.
baines03:
At the end of the day, John Harbaugh is the coach of this team. I’m sure Nagy will be in line. If he could get a good year of Mitchell Trubisky, I’m sure Jaxson Dart will be just fine.
As a Bears fan, my option. The issue with Matt Nagy when HC/acting OC with the Bears is he failed to adapt. He had a successful 1st year backed by an excellent defense run by Vic Fangio. He failed to adapt his offense based on the personnel he had. He tried running the same offense designed by HC Andy Reid. Nagy simply did not have the players to do so. Maybe he learned from those mistakes with the Bears. Also take note: Nagy did not call or design plays. Coach Reid did.
Well, that seems like a really bad issue the Giants coaches and GM have been having…not adapting to the personnel they have but installing as system and making current players try and “fit”.
Not impressed by this hiring as there were younger options. I wonder what MaHomes thinks of this?
I was hoping for Weiss Jr. I guess he didn’t want to leave college.
He also had a very raw rookie QB that had a handful of college starts. Trubisky did develop, but always had accuracy problems that no coach could solve. They had a good D but you still have to score points to win games. Something Cleveland couldn’t do this year despite having a very good D. Nagy did design and call plays in Chicago. Giants will be fine.
Nagy did call plays with the Bears. As stated earlier, they were plays run in KC designed by Coach Reid and ultimately executed by a better team on KC. Nagy failed to properly use the players he had. Failed to use players strengths they had. Either Nagy lacked intellect and creativity or was just plain stubborn. He force fed the Bears with the KC offense. This is and has been well documented in Chicago. No doubt some things worked. Benefits if a good D and favorable field position. But looking at his overall body of work as an OC, it’s not encouraging. Maybe he’s learned something? For the Giants sake they better hope so.
Might as well draft another QB this one will be ruined
Well there’s another Manning on the horizon isn’t there?
Ah yes, the same Nagy that is known for ruining young QBs, see Tribisky and Fields, so this is what we are giving our young QB Dart to work with?
Trubisky and Fields couldn’t be coached any better by anyone. Nagy didn’t ruin anyone.
Reference: Fields
2021
(under Nagy)
58.9% comp
1870 yrd 7 TD, 10 int
(post Nagy)
60.4 % comp
2242 yrds, 17 TD, 11 int
That’s a noticeable improvement in overall offensive (plus 1100 rushing yards and 8 TDs as well) performance after Nagy was gone. seems to me another coach did do better than Nagy.
Did you watch any Steelers or Jets games? Fields struggled to pass for 200 yards. Got benched for each team too. That wasn’t on Nagy.
I am not arguing whether Fields was any good or not. I was responding to your comment “Fields couldn’t be coached any better by anyone” except the coach after Nagy.
Not my favorite choice – however he did lead a Mitch trubisky bears team to the playoffs. Maybe he didn’t develop trubisky or maybe trubisky isnt an NFL starting caliber QB. Maybe fields didn’t develop, or maybe fields is better suited as a gadget player. I just hope they commit to the run game
Trubisky never developed into a starter with Pittsburgh or Buffalo. He only had a handful of college starts and was very raw in Chicago.
