Raiders Acquire No. 149 From Cowboys
The Raiders made the decision to make a slight move up in Round 5, and the Cowboys will receive an additional seventh-round pick in this deal.
In moving up to No. 149 from No. 158, the Raiders dealt No. 218 to the Cowboys. Clemson wide receiver Hunter Renfrow became Oakland’s eighth pick in this draft.
Largely a slot contributor to both of Clemson’s recent national championship teams, Renfrow finished his career as a four-year cog in the Tigers’ offense. He totaled 186 receptions for 2,133 yards and 15 touchdowns in college, including a rather notable game-winning reception from Deshaun Watson as a sophomore. He will join a Raiders team that has overhauled its receiver group.
Renfrow will attempt to carve out a role on the Raiders. He joins Antonio Brown, Tyrell Williams, J.J. Nelson and Ryan Grant among the new talent coming to work with Derek Carr.
Cowboys Trade No. 136 To Bengals
The Bengals have acquired No. 136 from the Cowboys, reports Marisa Contipelli of Bengals.com (via Twitter). Cincinnati will send Dallas No. 149 and No. 213.
The Bengals have used their pick on Ohio State center Michael Jordan. Not to be confused with the NBA legend nor the dude who was in Black Panther, this Jordan started 14 games for the Buckeyes this past season. In 2016, Jordan was the first Ohio State freshman to start on the offensive line since Orlando Pace.
Bengals 2018 first-rounder Billy Price earned All-Rookie honors this past season, so it’s unlikely that Jordan sees much time at center. The rookie could move to one of the guard spots, a position he played early on during his Ohio State tenure.
Raiders Trade No. 135 To Falcons
The Falcons are moving up two spots. ESPN’s Field Yates reports (via Twitter) that Atlanta has acquired No. 135 from the Raiders. Atlanta will send Oakland No. 137 and No. 230.
The Falcons will use the pick on Charlestown defensive end John Cominsky. NFL.com projects the prospect to be a rotational/backup lineman and a special teamer. The rookie could see an opportunity to contribute on the defensive line, as the Falcons are currently rostering only three backup defensive ends (Adrian Clayborn, Steven Means, and Jacob Tuioti-Mariner).
Patriots Trade No. 134 To Rams
The Super Bowl champs have pulled off a trade with the team they defeated. ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry tweets that the Rams have acquired No. 134 and No. 243 from the Patriots. New England will receive No. 162 and No. 167.
The Rams used the pick to select Washington defensive tackle Greg Gaines. The 2018 Morris Trophy winner finished last season with career-highs in tackles (55) and sacks (3.5). The six-foot-two, 316-pound lineman should provide the Rams with a player who they can immediately insert in their defensive-line rotation.
Jets Trade No. 116 To Titans
The Jets have made their second trade of the day. They’re sending No. 116 to the Titans, reports ESPN’s Field Yates (via Twitter). Tennessee will send the Jets No. 121 and No. 157.
The Titans have used the pick own Iowa safety Amani Hooker. The 2019 first-team All-Big Ten selection has been touted for his strength and intelligence, so he could have an opportunity to contribute as a backup strong safety right away.
With Kevin Byard and Kenny Vaccaro slotted in as starters, Hooker will have to compete with Johnathan Cyprien and Dane Cruikshank for backup reps.
Seahawks Trade No. 114 To Vikings
The Seahawks have pulled off another trade. ESPN’s Field Yates reports (via Twitter) that Seattle is sending No. 114 to the Vikings. In exchange, Minnesota will send No. 120 and No. 204.
The Vikings will use the pick on Oklahoma offensive guard Dru Samia. The six-foot-five, 302-pound lineman primarily played offensive guard throughout his collegiate career. He started all 14 games in 2018, earning him a second-team All-American nod from the Associated Press.
The Vikings have added a pair of key offensive linemen this offseason. They signed offensive guard Josh Kline before drafting center Garrett Bradbury in the first round.
Lions Trade No. 111 To Falcons
The Falcons have acquired No. 111 from the Lions, reports ESPN’s Field Yates (via Twitter). Atlanta will send Detroit No. 117 and No. 186. ESPN’s Michael Rothstein was the first to report the trade (via Twitter).
The Falcons have used the pick on Ohio State cornerback Kendall Sheffield. The defensive back spent a redshirt season at Alabama, transferred to Blinn College, and then moved to Ohio State in 2017. He ended up seeing the field for 27 games between two seasons.
Sheffield is also an accomplished track athlete, with his hurdling prowess earning him the Gatorade Texas Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year award in 2014.
Raiders Trade No. 109 To Colts
The Colts have moved up 20 spots. ESPN’s Field Yates tweets that Indy has acquired No. 109 from the Raiders. Oakland will receive No. 129 and No. 135.
The Colts have used their pick on Michigan State safety Khari Willis. The rookie is considered a box safety, meaning he’ll likely be tasked to cover tight ends in the middle of the field. Of course, the Colts clearly have high hopes for the safety, emphasized by them moving up 20 spots in the fourth round.
The Colts have added a pair of safeties this offseason in Derrick Kindred and Isaiah Johnson. Those two additions, Willis, and a host of other safeties (including George Odum, Rolan Milligan, and Matthias Farley) will compete for snaps behind Malik Hooker and Clayton Geathers.
Broncos Acquire LB Dekoda Watson
We have a player trade. The 49ers have dealt linebacker Dekoda Watson and No. 212 to the Broncos for No. 148, reports ESPN’s Field Yates (via Twitter).
This will be a reunion for Watson and the Broncos, as the linebacker played in Denver during the 2016 season. The former seventh-rounder has bounced around the NFL during his nine-year career. He spent the past two seasons with San Francisco, playing mostly on special teams.
Watson was limited to only four games in 2018, as he battled hamstring and calf injuries.
Jets Trade No. 105 To Saints
The Jets have acquired more picks. ESPN’s Field Yates reports (via Twitter) that the Jets have sent No. 105 to the Saints. New Orleans will send New York No. 116 and No. 168.
The Saints have used the selection on Florida safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. The rangy nickel defensive back was expected to be drafted on Day 2, so it’s understandable that the Saints traded up to acquire him.
New Orleans has Marcus Williams and Vonn Bell slotted in as their starting safeties. Gardner-Johnson is unlikely to push either player for a starting gig, but he should compete with Chris Banjo and J.T. Gray for backup reps.
