NFL Could Drop Ezekiel Elliott Investigation

The NFL has been investigating domestic violence claims against Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott since July, but it appears the first-team All-Pro will emerge without punishment. Representatives for Elliott have advised him that he won’t face discipline when the league closes the case, which should happen soon, Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

"<strong

After the Cowboys’ season ended in January, the 21-year-old Elliott complained that the league’s investigation was taking too long.

“I do want closure,” Elliott said. “I would rather it not drag on this long. If there was something to find, which there’s not, they would’ve found it by now. The police did a very thorough investigation. I will tell you this — it just seems like they’re dragging their feet right now. Who knows, man? I’m just ready for it to end.”

Elliott’s statement came two months after a report that he was “Public Enemy No. 1” in the NFL’s view. The league has taken its time, and has gotten cooperation from Elliott’s ex-girlfriend, because it doesn’t want to botch yet another domestic violence investigation after it mishandled the Ray Rice and Josh Brown cases.

Elliott’s accuser claims that she was a victim of five separate domestic violence incidents when they were together, though the district attorney’s office in Columbus, Ohio, decided not to pursue charges against him last September. For his part, the league’s reigning rushing champion has maintained his innocence.

Haven’t other players been suspended for never being arrested? The Brady suspension was controversial. The Big Ben one was too. Two completely different cases but no evidence in either. No arrests (Brady didn’t commit a crime, Ben allegedly did but no proof). I think both suspensions are dumb but following that trend, Elliott should get a 4 game suspension.

I don’t think he should be suspended but it could happen who knows with the NFL

Really?! A four game suspension based on what? There is no evidence that supports these accusations. So you’re saying to suspend Zeke for 4 games with no proof of any wrong doing? That sounds pretty idiotic! Zeke was not even arrested upon these accusations. Arrests are completely irrelevant and so are the comparisons of the other situations your mention…Where does your logic and reasoning come from?

Only Cowboy fans so starved for a playoff win (let alone championship) in this millennium would say this idiot doesn’t deserve a suspension. As mentioned earlier, Big Ben was suspended for less and as despicable an act that Ray Rice committed, at least he’s shown genuine remorse from day 1. This moron has not shown any contrition whatsoever despite multiple accusations, then he goes and pulls down a woman’s top, revealing her breast at a parade?!?! How stupid is this kid?
And please spare me the, “she was fine with it…”, “they hung out after…”, “she even flashed the crowd herself…” etc… If that’s your sister, girlfriend, wife, etc… you’d feel differently.

WOW, if someone pulls the top of your daughter’s garment is NOT wrong but DISTASTEFUL, that is some verdict alright. I hope in hell you are NOT a lawyer selling a closing argument like that one which is far from convincing for sure…

The NFL has an image like clause on every contract meaning he’s subject to a disciplinary action. That could be at least a four game suspension.

That’s the thing, I don’t hate the Cowboys. To hate them, I’d have to care and I don’t, if anything I pity them.
They live in their past glory days and still think they’re relevant. You guys have won 2 wild card games in 20 years!!! America’s team my ass! You Cowboy fans are as delusional as your megalomaniacal owner… hopefully with less plastic surgery.
And that’s exactly why you don’t see that what this kid did was wrong. Why you accepted Greg Hardy and all his baggage. And why you’ll be the has-beens until you get new ownership in “Big D”.

BTW the NFL is still investigating the lady’s garment pull-out that exposed her breast. That’s in clear video. I’d dare to say he’ll get at least a four game suspension for that incident.

League sees him as their next “golden boy” with his big season in Dallas and putting smiles back on Jerry’s face. Will get minimum penalty if anything.

Whatever you want to think. He hasn’t done anything wrong. Distastful yes. Until he breaks the law or the rules of the game there’s not much the NFL can do or will do. It doesn’t look good, but he isn’t a golden boy until he truly earns that title. I hope he doesn’t earn and hope he never goes there. He has too much potential.

“Not much the NFL can do…” Have you followed pro football at all the past couple years? Goddell has emperor like power. And in this one case, he’d be 100% right to throw the book at him. Maybe the kid will finally wake-up and realize actions have consequences. The video from the parade could lead to battery charges. He clearly put his hands on the woman against her wishes and consent.

You cannot compare apples to oranges. If you actally watch the video the entire video it makes sense. It’s distatsful, I don’t condone it, but it was harmless. The Ben Roth case was bull and should have never ended with suspension. Zeke’s case underwent a year investigation. 5 accusations yeah, but something different between Zeke and Ben is that there was defintive proof in texts that cancel out all accusations because of what she said. Saying she would lie about assult if he left her etc…proof she was out to get him. That’s the difference buddy. Why would you bring up Ray Rice, as if that is comparable in the Zeke equation. There was a video of his assult, can’t just walk away from that one. Any smart human being would show remorse and probably feel remorse especially with a video bringing visuals to the equation. You must not be very detail oriented. You are very speculatory.

Wow, you crack me up. I’m just stating facts and thanks for the education. I’m completely aware of the players conduct policy clause. Did Rob Gronkowski get suspended for rubbing his face in a ladies breast at the club? I guess that was good conduct. If Zeke gets suspended for a game or two that’s Goodell’s call. Just don’t be surprised if there is no punishment. Keep in mind the boobie fest has nothing to do with the false or unprovable assult accusations/allegations which is now closed by police and the NFL. They can look at that video all they want. Watch the entire video it speaks for itself.

No, jokes but you’re making joke of yourself. We can agree to disagree, you self righteous shmuck. If Elliot gets suspended so be it. I just don’t see it happening. If he does then it will surely set an example for others who do stupid stuff all the time that some how don’t get in the headlines like Gronkowski’s adventures. Zeke is getting the attention cause he is on the so called America’s team and leagues leading rusher with a star on his helmet. You cowboy haters can thank TMZ sports. If you feel so strongly stop arguing with me and write Roger Goodell or go join a feminist group and blow things lol and blow things way out of proportion . You can’t change my opinion on what will happen. But in the end it doesn’t matter what we think. We we see what happens.

I did NOT make a joke out of myself “Mr./Ms. Lawyer.”
Your puritanical and hypocritical assessment is the joke. I am a 49ers fan. Honestly I used to be a Cowboys hater, better yet a Jed York hater(subject for another discussion). This past season I rooted quite a bit for big D ‘boys!
The 49ers were the NFL laughing stock and Kaepernick grabbed the headlines with his National anthem kneeling. The point is any average player or a regular person can grab media attention for that matter if either does something out of the ordinary because ALL it takes is an iPod phone which almost every person has, even me.

You’re preaching to the choir, I’m aware. I guess you’re the real preacher here. I really don’t care who you pull for and why. You’re arguments and comparisons have been nothing but hogwash. You’re opinion would have been better without attempting to back it up. I’m aware of the iPhone (TMZ sports). I’ll take your lawyer blows as a compliments. I must say you’re a strange bird. And yes you did make a joke out of yourself (you don’t get to be the judge of that) That’s why I said it. And just how has my assessment been hypocritical. I would love your elaboration on that one, then I’m out cause you’re truly annoying.

You still did not answer my question. I haven’t been hypocritical at all. You call a spade a spade? If Ray Rice is a spade I guess that makes Zeke and Ben a couple of hearts. I’m just stating that I don’t think there will be major reprocussions for Zeke nor should there be. His behavior and judgment has obviously been lacking. No one knows if he really assulted his ex there is no proof, other than the texts that she was out to get him. With boobie gate, he was just having fun. I think it’s obvious everyone was having fun. It was clearly a bad decision and look for Zeke. And I’m not a jerk nor a liberal. I’m a conservative from Texas haha. You’re entitled to your own opinion, but you came out lashing with low blows with your all caps and parenthesis and name calling. You were the one acting like a jerk and asking for it. I’m only trying to keep up. It is not in my nature to be a jerk like you enjoy being. I haven’t lived a perfect life but I can tell you that Zeke does not deserve bad things, he is not a bad guy and of course people will blow things way out of proportion. Zeke has nothing to hide. He will get what he deserves, which maybe nothing…good luck to your 49ers. I’m sure they will be better without Chip Killingit. Cowboys will be fortunate to go 9-7 or 10-6 this season, if that even happens. NFC East could be pretty tight. After the draft, when preseason comes and the rosters are made it will be interesting to see what transpires across the league.. Got to love football.

    Jon Kenney:
This is my final statement regarding Mr. Elliot. My point is regarding the garment pull-out. The situation in Columbus, OH/OH ST to me is not clear. The parade conduct with an obvious video it’s a different story. He should be suspended for at least four games. The NFL conduct policy should take care of that which is enough ammo for Mr. Roger Goodell to justify.
Your opinion is duly noted, thank you.

Harmless? Exposing a females breast in public without her consent is harmless? Z.E. clearly has an issue. Maybe it’s alcohol, maybe he thinks he is untouchable. But, clearly, this kid needs some kind of help.

You’re a nut. You are like a parrot who watches ESPN’s first take, stealing Stephan A Smiths material. I see that Zeke is wrong, I’m only saying that it wouldn’t surprise me if he wasn’t suspended. It’s not like he committed a horrible act on a random women. He shouldn’t have done it. Not all Cowboys fans are dilusional you shmuck. Jerry Jones is a different story. I know the current cowboys team is not living in the past. I’m living in the present and looking forward to the future. And if the future is lacking Zeke for part of a season so be it. The Cowboys are becoming more relevant and next season they could take a step or two back but that is to be determined.

I don’t even watch ESPN and can’t stand Stephen A. Smith (or Skip Bayless — both loud mouth blowhards). I gather info and make my own opinions accordingly. I know I’m not always right, but an opinion is just that.
That said, I never said he was guilty of anything re: his college girlfriend (for the record, if I had to guess, I believe something went on), but this isn’t criminal court where incontrovertible evidence is necessary, it’s an independent business with it’s own CBA, negotiated between the league and the player’s union. I do think Goddell has too much power, but until the CBA changes, he can do as he pleases.
I did argue was that Goddell can and probably will throw the book at him, especially in light of the parade footage.
And FWIW, even former Cowboy Marcus Spears agrees the kid needs to grow-up and take responsibility.
