The Raiders released wide receiver Seth Roberts, as Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets. Roberts exits one day after the club signed fellow receiver Ryan Grant, giving the club a totally revamped WR group for 2019.
Last month, the Raiders swung a blockbuster trade for Antonio Brown, signed ex-Charger Tyrell Williams, and released veteran Jordy Nelson. After Grant entered the mix, there was simply no room for Roberts, who inked a three-year, $12MM extension with the Raiders in 2017.
Roberts was due to make a $4.45MM base salary this season and up to $4.8MM through bonuses. However, his base pay was completely guaranteed, allowing the Raiders to shed the entire sum of his contract.
Roberts, 28, had 45 receptions for 494 yards and two touchdowns in 2018. In the previous year, however, he set new career highs with 43 catches for 455 yards and caught 66.2% of the balls thrown his way.

I guess with AB’s versatility you don’t need a true slot receiver, but from what I’ve seen I’d rather have Roberts. I imagine the difference in skill level is made up in cash saved
You’d rather have Seth Roberts over Antonio Brown? ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha
Roberts was decent but not at $4.5M. They can get Martavis Bryant back at some point for super cheap and not miss Roberts at all.
I initially read his comment that way too but he’s actually comparing Seth Roberts to Ryan Grant.
Thank you. Lol I’m not an idiot
But they signed grant to 2.5 million which is nearly half of what Roberts was due and thus why he was cut
Wow I literally said that
Then you know why it was done . So why even post to being with?
Being with who/what?
Not money, not talent the issue: cap space. $2 million extra for OL. Method to the madness.
“However, his base pay was completely guaranteed, allowing the Raiders to shed the entire sum of his contract.”
Yeah this doesn’t make sense somehow
Classic Gruden. Overpay for a 30+ year old & cut a 20 something year old. And on cheaper deals.
I dont think the money is Grudens.
It’s not, but its his job to manage the payroll.
Yes what an overpay for a guy that has got 1200+ yards 6 years in a row.
With a HoF QB, and good line helping out, plus 1000+ yard RB’s. Does Oak have that?
Yes because you can do that consistently only because of your teammates. Imagine getting mad about the bottom of your WR depth chart but trying to haggle against AB. Jeez
AB is a great player, but some of that greatness came from others on his offense. The #1 reason they traded for AB was to sell tickets, not wins.
Just remember Gruden is so bad at identifying talent that he already had to replace his 1st round LT (last year) with a person who was a backup that was traded for a 6-7th round pick last season as well.
I agree Kolton Miller was a very bad bust but im willing to see how this years picks go. This is the draft that makes or breaks the Raiders
No, you still have 8 more years of Gruden fully guaranteed.
Well im not a Raiders fan. My favorite teams head coach is Sean Mcvay
Actually grant is cheaper than Roberts so you are wrong there
Patriots could use him. Dorset is number 2 receiver. We obviously need help.
