Falcons Sign WR Laquon Treadwell

Laquon Treadwell will have a chance to prove himself with another team. After the former first-round pick underwhelmed for four seasons with the Vikings, he will join the Falcons. The team announced the move.

The 2016 first-round pick could not justify that draft status in Minnesota, being released and re-signed in 2019 and totaling just 65 receptions for 701 yards and two touchdowns during his four Vikings seasons. He did finish the ’19 slate with a 20.4-yard average but did so on just nine catches.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Ole Miss product topped out at 4.63 seconds in the 40-yard dash four years ago and never solidified the No. 3 receiver role behind Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. He will have an opportunity to fill in behind another talented wideout duo.

Atlanta will have the high-end Julio JonesCalvin Ridley tandem back for a third season together and saw Russell Gage eclipse 400 receiving yards last season. Treadwell will attempt to carve out a spot in the Falcons’ receiver group.

Oof I read his career Vikings stats thinking it was for just last year.

Lol yea, he’s kinda a nice bench piece to cycle in there. Hasn’t turned into the player he should have

Bench piece? He is going to get a lot more playing time when Julio gets traded.

Agree – he has a major problem which is not good for wide receivers

He can’t catch the ball. Looks like Tarzan plays like Jane

I like the SEC moves here, but we better draft from the conference… not all will turn into superstars, but you’re gonna get battle tested studs vs guys from other conferences. If you stock pile those guys, you decrease the amount of failures… if you don’t draft SEC, big ten or Clemson is all else I’ll accept, but even then … meh

but but all the Talking heads said the Falcons are in Cap Purgatory!…one of the absolute worst in the league they said, and it’s all Julio Jones fault for ‘whining’ last offseason everyone else said

You do realize that this contract will be dirt cheap right? It’s freaking Laquon Treadwell.

yes…yes I do. it’s called ‘sarcasm’ which gets lost on most people around these parts.

Julio wanted to get paid, you clowns would have done the same thing. He won’t be traded, Falcons would eat big-time money on his contract.

Treadwell was a beast in college but he was never the same after his leg injury.

    • jkoms57

Never understood why he went so early (14th overall?)

Had good stats in college but never showed breakaway speed or any skillset other than being big.

I think he might have been fast enough to succeed in the NFL prior to his injury. After that, he was a possession receiver guy.

After the Viks picked him, the next two WRs off the board were Sterling Sheppard and Michael Thomas.

The LOSS of Treadwell should at least net the Vikings a top COMP pick in 2021. HA HA
