The Texans have begun to “soften” their asking price for embattled quarterback Deshaun Watson, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports. With the trade deadline approaching, it’s possible that Watson could be dealt in the next month.
“Watson made it clear he does not want to play for the Houston Texans,” Glazer said during today’s telecast. “But it’s interesting because while we went into this season, the Texans were not really fielding phone calls. They weren’t open to trade talks unless somebody was going to give them a ridiculous trade offer – more than six draft picks. They’ve already been offered three ones and three threes. However, I was told this past week their stance started to soften a little bit with that.”
The Dolphins remain the “obvious” trade partner for Watson, though owner Stephen Ross seems to be deferring to his less-enthused front office for now. At last check, the Texans had some substantial offers for Watson, though interested clubs want those picks to have conditions attached. Namely, safeguards that would lessen the blow if Watson is suspended or parked on the Commissioner’s Exempt List.
As it stands, Watson could immediately play for any team that trades for him. Still, that could change any minute, pending the outcome of his 22 lawsuits, 10+ police complaints, or the whim of the league office.
Come to Denver teddy B can back him up if they put him on a exempt list trade lock and two 1’s and T Patrick
That won’t be enough. Lock has no value.
That’s probably where the whole 2 1st and a WR also in there come from…
Well, that’s not in the article, and they’ve been offered 3-1sts, and 3-3rds, already. So, what are you talking about?
That reported offer is BS. You seriously believe a GM said “we’ll give that to you right now”?
I can buy “hey if he’s cleared of charges we’ll give you 3 1’s and 3 3’s” but until then…ha!”
Zero chance that was a legit offer while he’s been in the middle of all these allegations.
I can only go by what’s reported. I don’t know what actually happened. I’m not omniscient.
Didn’t ask you to tell me what actually happened. Asked if you honestly believed what was reported. Are you incapable of formulating your own opinion or thoughts? Or can you truly “only go by what is reported”. If so, you should probably talk to someone about that.
You’re not? Take a laxative!!!!
Also, I was referencing the two 1sts when I made the Locke comment. That went without saying.
Lock has little value ?? Watson will have none of the NFL gets involved. Which is only a matter of time.
I agree, but Texans seem to feel they want a lot, even thoilugh, they’ve “softened” the asking price. But, yes, Locke has little trade value.
Lock doesn’t have any value at all. He’s a backup.
Mike White (the jets backup qb with not one regular season pass thrown in his NFL career) has no value. Drew Lock with starting NFL experience has little value but has experience and i would probably take him in a heart beat over Wilson.
Atleast there is some kind of on the field experience they can give the kid because it seems the entire jets coaching staff is new in their position and none have experience to share with him. I would have loved Hoyer or Alex Smith or those type guys to be his mentor similar to brunell was years ago. But alas we missed on all of those.
Denver is not trading Patrick when they’ve just lost KJ Hamler for the year and don’t have Jeudy for another 6-7 weeks. Teddy needs more weapons not less.
There’s a better chance of Denver trading for Cooks than Watson.
Denver will (should?) punt this year and make a run at Rodgers.
Take the best deal possible for Watson.
Move forward with Davis Mills.
Build through the draft.
Trade as many pieces as you can for picks over the next month +. Cooks (IND/LAC/49ers), Ingram (BAL), Mercilus (has an opt out).
Trade deadline is November 2nd
“Still, that could change any minute, pending the outcome of his 22 lawsuits, 10+ police complaints, or the whim of the league office.”
The whim of the league office is by far the most dangerous element here…
You sure? Seems like Watson is clearly the most dangerous element.
Years back, PFT (when I still read them) had a ‘no arrest tracker’ something to that effect. There were so many arrests that the NFLPA asked them to take it off their webpage. How many of those players served time or were kicked out of the league?
Watson will apologize, sit for 6-8 weeks and go on w/ another decade in the league.
Highly optimistic. Sometimes you don’t get to give a forced insincere apology and be done with punishment. Watson isn’t worth a draft pick at all until his situation is resolved. He’s PR cancer to a franchise right now.
That depends. How much have the Texans softened? 3 firsts and 3 seconds prior to this. Now only 2 firsts, not bad.
I read on Yahoo sports yesterday that 2 years ago, the Fins drafted Tua, CB, & OL all in the first round. His question was would you trade those 3 for Watson, heck ya was the answer.
2 years ago there wasnt charges against him. Its like saying would you have traded for Michael Vick with 3 first rounders the year before he got caught with the dog fighting fiasco.
Mike signed his 2nd $100m+ deal w/ Philly (1st was w/ Atlanta) after being released. Next.
Watson sells; jerseys, tickets, redzone buyers, gamblers et al. He’ll play. He’ll say “I’m sorry” & setup some female charity in the new city. Then Goodell will make him sit, after all is settled, for 2 months. Then it’ll be over.
And for some people that may be enough Arty, but for others that won’t. Personally, I can’t stand Vick. Maybe he has changed, I don’t know- but it doesn’t erase the suffering he caused to those dogs before.
In Watson’s case, again, maybe he will be truly sorry, I don’t know- but it doesn’t just erase what he did.
Just because a player generates revenue and may help win some games doesn’t mean they should get a pass, at least to me. Maybe you don’t think that and you’re just saying that’s how it is, and you’re probably not wrong. At some point some player needs the hammer dropped on them hard though so it’s understood that playing a professional sport is a privilege, not a right.
I’d rather my favorite team be 2-15 with players I feel comfortable rooting for than 15-2 with low caliber humans. Just my two cents.
I agree with you 100%. But you have watched pro sports long enough to see players and executives get away with a lot.
Will Watson’s remorse be true; most likely not.
From MLB: Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa made a point to let a police officer know he was a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame the night he was arrested and charged with DUI. … The report quoted La Russa asking the officer, “Do you see my ring?” and informing the officer, “I’m a Hall of Famer baseball person.
Tony is still in the big leagues. That was about a year ago. Tony apologized and gave a donation, then kept his career.
So you pulled a Psaki and just ignored the actual question and trailed off into something unrelated. There was no where i mention anything about salary or free agent signing.
“I read on Yahoo sports yesterday that 2 years ago, the Fins drafted Tua, CB, & OL all in the first round. His question was would you trade those 3 for Watson, heck ya was the answer.”
I replied back saying a year before Vick got hit with the dog fighting would you have traded 3 1st rounders (which im sure would be yes) … then you see the star player disappear for 2 years with your picks …. this would be the same thing with watson except you know the baggage ahead of time. So him being worth 3 1st rounders 2 years before this is irrelevant because a lot has changed.
This one is known and he could be out for a year maybe two and/or with a very likely chance to serve jail time with the police complaints and i believe 10 of the 22 accusations being criminally investigated.
Yes. The Eagles took a flier for 1 year, saw the potential and signed Vick to a $100m+ deal. What’s the big deal? The organization took ‘bullets’ from all and everyone & signed Mike; screw the mad dog owners. Mike made ‘amends’ said sorry and went on for another 5-7 years in the league. Grow up.
Watson will play again. He’ll simply buy his way out and say sorry. It’s so old; yet you think now it will change! Ha!
In today’s time’s. The LA Dodgers pitcher accused of assaulting females was ‘suspended’ by MLB; not kicked out. I don’t even know his name and yet I know he’ll pitch professionally again.
That’s Trevor Bauer, and I wouldn’t be so sure he’ll pitch again. Reportedly his own teammates (rightfully) don’t want him in the locker room again. Maybe that’s what it takes- for other players to stand up and say I’m not playing with this guy? No professional sports league is going to risk games for a bad apple.
I don’t follow MLB. Like I said, I didn’t know his name. 1 team out of 30-32(?) will stay away? Any sub 500 team will gladly pay 25% of his value. That’s still millions.
As for bad apples, as I said previously, PFT was asked to take down their ‘days w/o an arrest’ post on their website. But keep thinking those females have a fighting chance. They’ll be paid off.
I live in Jacksonville, FL. If for some reason a Jag player could offer me $150K to be quiet; or drag on a legal fight. I’d take the money. As an example. That pays off all my debt. How to argue??
Dolphins, make the trade now. Tua isn’t the guy and neither is Jacoby Brisset.
Why would Miami give up that much draft capital on a guy who may not be able to play? Even if he can, you’ve gutted your ability to bring in offensive line help.
What team is dumb enough to trade for this team poison??
Any team in need of a QB.
He’s not going to play. The minute someone plans to play/start him, the NFL is going to suspend him. Literally no one, not even a team in desperate need of a QB, is going to trade for Watson.
He could be ‘free’ and still no one would take him because of A) his massive contract and B) the fact that he’d be instantly suspended if anyone tried to play him. All of this Watson stuff is a non-story until his legal stuff gets sorted.
Just a curious question on the contract part. I dont get the way the NFL does trades what does the original team have to pay when they trade a player? Is it whats left of the guaranteed money or is it some pro-rated portion of the contract?
I would think if the receiving team is paying only the non-guaranteed portion it may be worth the risk of a higher pick (ala the reds – yankees chapman trade) because yes the pick is important but if its non-guaranteed you may get a probowl / hall of fame qb for maybe a 2nd rounder (yes way low balled and prob wouldnt accept).
I don’t get why any team would want him now, either. First you’d have to part with assets, and then you’re taking on a huge contract in return. It’s also a PR nightmare.
I know I would find a new favorite team if my team took on Watson at QB.
Bears trade Justin fields and Khalil Mack fir deshaun Watson
Why do you hate the Bears and want to punish them this way?
they want draft picks too . Fields and some draft picks seems reasonable. Has any team ever looked so hopeless as the Bears this week. Hopefully that will change next weekend.
What’s wrong did he assault 2 dozen women or something??
Oh, wait
allegedly…was in the same boat til I saw this type of accusation put a relative in jail with no due process who is innocent…
Did he have 22 accusers from multiple states?
Speaking of boats watsons is prob the dirtiest since that Minnesota Vikings boat
Because of the implication
Why in the world should any team trade valuable assets for a guy when he very likely is going to get suspended… and no one knows how long the suspension would be? Any GM who trades for Watson now should be tarred and feathered. Twice. A week.
I know Daniel Jones has played better the last two weeks but could a Darkhorse be the New York Giants?
Zero chance. The Giants are an old school organization that typically avoids this kind of controversy. On top of that, Watson has a massive contract and the Giants have no space.
Further, their problems revolve around Jason Garrett, timid play-calling (both offensive and defensive–they take no chances offensively and when was the last time they ran a blitz?), a lack of discipline (penalties galore), and a terrible offensive line. Acquiring Watson would fix none of this.
“They’ve already been offered three ones and three threes.”
Ridiculous. I would’ve accepted that deal in a heartbeat. Stafford was only worth two ones, one three, and an overpaid QB.
Zero chance that is a legit, in context trade offer.
Of course its legit have you not seen Boras and his “mystery teams” in mlb? lol i wonder if they hired him to do some consulting on deals 🙂
We the Atlanta Falcons will give you a 2 of our 2nd round picks and we will take on his contract. Take it or leave it
“They’ve already been offered three ones and three threes.”
=======================
The writer needs to be a little clear. I doubt a single team offered 3 ones and three twos. I doubt a single team even offered two ones, It feels like someone is just making stuff up.
Could you imagine how the league and teams would treat him with those allegations if he was black?
I’m confused…. And I mean no disrespect here, but you realize Watson isn’t white, right?
Derp
I sense sarcasm. Poorly placed sarcasm.
Michael Richards’ last appearance at the Laugh Factory level humor.
Jordan Love and a bag of curds.
Throw in a half dozen cheese hats.
Watson has been moved off the showroom floor and sent to the Franchise Quarterback Scratch and Dent Store.
It’s time for Watson to retire and open up his own chain of massage parlors.
Perhaps they should rename this site “The Daily Watson Rumor”. In case you didn’t realize it, Jay Glazer is playing you…
Miami has PLENTY of draft capital to trade for Watson & not gut the team in the process
Roll of quarters and a hand full of stale Cheetos should do the trick.
“Soften” might not have been the best term unless your making a funny?
