The Raiders did themselves a bit of a disservice by winning a couple of games down the stretch of the regular season and ruining their opportunity to own the No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft as a result. Despite the theoretical misstep, Las Vegas may still be in a good position to land their preferred option in April.
As the influence of minority-owner Tom Brady continues to permeate throughout the Raiders organization, there seems to be an indication that Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders could be the object of focus for the team’s scouting department leading into the draft. According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports, Brady has “a great amount of respect for Sanders’ focus on preparation, his ability to learn and adapt, his accuracy and determination in the pocket, and his toughness to take hits and still be resilient.”
We continue to see reports from scouts that the top two passers in this year’s draft class, Miami’s Cam Ward and Sanders, wouldn’t have surpassed the top three passers in 2024 (Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye). According to Connor Hughes of SportsNet New York, some have even claimed that J.J. McCarthy would be the QB1 in this class, which is hard to believe when comparing the statistics of the three. Apparently, McCarthy’s winning of a championship with Michigan is valued highly enough to overcome a severe difference in production.
Despite these claims and despite Sanders seemingly being ranked as QB2 behind Ward at the moment, the desperate need for quarterbacks in the NFL still makes it seem like Sanders may not make it to the Raiders at No. 6 overall. Three of the five teams in the first five picks of the draft (Titans, Browns, Giants) have also been connected to passers with quarterback being identified as a position of need. Still, there’s reportedly belief in draft circles that, as the evaluation process continues, Sanders has a chance to slip out of the top five picks.
Should that be the case, it would play perfectly into the hands of Las Vegas. There’s some hope that whoever is hired as general manager, as well as head coach, would be permitted some input on the decision of who is selected in the first round. If Brady and majority-owner Mark Davis have their way, though, the Colorado-product may be headed to the Raiders.
They will be drafting another QB in the next 3 years.
and “league sources” means “some guy at a bar”.
If they can draft him without moving up, it makes all the sense in the world to do it. He may not have the highest ceiling in this class, but I think he has the highest floor. It’d be a solid pick at #6.
I don’t think any QB in this class is the type of player you give up multiple assets to move up for, though.
They need to trade into first. Grab the heisman. Should be cheap this year. Grab sanders late 1st. 17-25. It doesn’t make sense to get him sooner. If he goes. That’s that.
Sanders doesn’t get past the Jets at 7 if the Raiders pass on him
I was stating for raiders to get both. It would have to be lucky. I think sanders is a generational talent in mind alone. Very rare. You are probably right.
The titans should be listening. It takes 2 1st and 2 2nd
I think Carolina got that an a proven WR for Bryce Young
But that was moving up from 9 to 1. Not 6 to 1, or 6 to 2/3.
Also, these guys aren’t as highly regarded as past guys.
And not to be outdone, the trade was a flop, which will make teams think twice in giving up that much to move up.
It would definitely take a future one, but I doubt they also get 2 2’s plus the value of DJ Moore.
I’d guess a ’26 #1, and a #3 in ’25 and ’26.
I don’t think anyone is giving up that much trade capital to get a QB who would have rated as the 5th or 6th or 7th best QB last year.
This year it’ll take one 5th rounder
Haha. Yea it should be an even swap for a next year 1st and a this year 2nd and 4th.
I’ve read dozens of draft articles and reports and haven’t once seen the Jags connected to taking a QB. Where does he get that info?
Raiders, where did you read Jags?
They don’t even have a freaking GM
Sure they do, it Tom. He just won’t take the title since he wants to be paid as a commentator and own 5% of a team. He is making the decisions he will likely take Spytek as they know each other.
Build an offense around success. You can build a kid up without winning. By establishing norms. Winning principles. In my opinion. Sanders and Alex smith can win a championship in 3 years. Would be nice to grab both kids. Would make drafting easier. Build his confidence in completions. This will work. Stamped.
If he is there at 3. Will gladly trade him 1 this year and 2? And number 1 next year and a 4th.
I wouldn’t trade any capital to move up for either of these qbs. If they fall to you, sure. But don’t go out of your way to get them.
Unless of course his dad is the next coach!
NYG messed up again by winning a game they should have lost. They should have taken Josh Allen and last year should have taken JJ. They miss out again this year at number 3. The agony continues.
They’ll get Sanders
JJ will be a bust
Titans: Hunter
Browns: Ward
Giants trade 3 to Raiders for r1 2025 and 2026. maybe get another pick.
I don’t believe the Browns are drafting a QB. If they do, they’re looking at having to trade Myles Garrett, too, because he wants to win now. But for the sake of replying to your comment, we’ll say they draft Ward. Do you have the Giants passing on a QB this year then?
To me, I think Schoen is going to be absolutely desperate to draft one. The Giants’ owner has already come out and alluded to jobs being on the line. If Schoen can find a QB that shows some flashes, it is likely his best chance at saving his job. If they pass on a QB and go 2-15, someone else is going to be making those future selections
@Outlaw, its possible Giants draft a QB, but I don’t think its with the #3 pick. This draft I believe is a best available picking strategy imo. There are better skilled position players that are of a bigger need in early rounds than desperation QB picks. I’d take Hunter at 3, but really would prefer to trade back and get more picks because the Giants need atleast 6 positions filled. I have confidence in Schoen. I’m tired of changing staff every couple of years.
You’re the first Giants fan I’ve seen express any type of confidence in Schoen, tbh. I’m not a Giants fan, but from what I’ve seen, he doesn’t seem as if he can handle the job. He badly mishandled the Barkley negotiations, and I remember seeing a report that he allegedly got upset a player (apologies for not being able to recall the players name) that wouldn’t take a pay cut, and said something to the tune of “don’t get comfortable because you’ll be gone.” I understand that is the nature of the business, but professionalism is important in those matters.
For what it is worth, I also don’t disagree with your draft strategy. However, I recognize that isn’t how the league works. If you need a QB, and pass over one in the draft that has even a degree of success, you’re in trouble. When you’re already on shaky ground, you don’t comeback from that. There has always been an overemphasis on the QB position.
Sanders without Daddy Deion and his main target, Hunter is a one trick pony. Hunter is what makes Sanders above average. Don’t mortgage the farm for another clunker in a below average draft.
If Tom wasn’t there I would bet my life savings the Raiders would hire Sanders and then give whatever it took to get the top pick. It would be a typical Davis move. Sanders will be avg at best. I mean both. I am not sure if Tom would OK this might be too much Sanders. I thought Tom works with Shad not sure.
Teams would be smart to punt on this year’s QB class and fortify their offensive lines in the 1st round.
Then, draft a QB out of a better class next season and have a decent line to protect him. Caleb Williams would have benefitted from being drafted by a team with a better O-line.
Hayden Daniel’s is an example of a talented rookie getting to begin his career behind a decent line.
It’s just common sense… but then again, that’s never been the Raiders forte. They’ll probably hire that huxter Deion to coach as well.
Oh please No. Hopefully not another ten year rebuild, AGAIN!!!!!!!!
I would take best offer no matter what it was. I would be content taking a mid first rounder if they got me some more picks this and next year.
