The future of Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown has been in question since he voiced his frustration with their offense on multiple occasions in 2025. The heat has turned up since the Eagles’ season ended with a listless offensive showing in a 23-19 loss to the visiting 49ers in the wild-card round. Trade rumors centering on Brown have persisted over the past two-plus months, and that may be the case for at least several more weeks.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has considered dealing Brown, though it does not appear that he will budge for less than a first-round pick as this month’s draft approaches. One GM confirmed to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe that the Eagles have asked for “a one and change” this offseason. It would come as a surprise if a trade occurs before or during the draft, Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports writes, as the finances would work heavily against Philadelphia.
Trading Brown before June 1 would leave the Eagles with a $43.51MM dead cap hit — a record for his position — and cost them $20.12MM in space. A trade on June 2 or later would enable the Eagles to spread the dead money over two years. They would take on $16.35MM in 2026 and $27.1MM in ’27, though parting with Brown would open up $7MM in breathing room next season. While that makes a summer swap more likely, Jones does not “get the impression” a deal will come together immediately on June 2.
As for teams that could acquire Brown, the Patriots, Chargers, Bills and Chiefs are reportedly on the three-time Pro Bowler’s wish list. Los Angeles, Buffalo and Kansas City have not shown much interest, though perhaps they or other teams will enter the sweepstakes depending on how the draft unfolds. L.A.’s more successful franchise, the Rams, engaged in talks with the Eagles, but a trade between the NFC powers is unlikely to occur.
On the other hand, it would not surprise anyone if the Patriots reel in the soon-to-be 29-year-old Brown. Even after adding ex-Packer Romeo Doubs on a four-year, $68MM contract in free agency, the Pats are considered the favorites to acquire Brown (there is a “broad assumption” they will, Volin writes). He would offer a more-than-capable replacement for the reigning AFC champions’ 2025 leading receiver, the released Stefon Diggs. Brown also has a strong relationship with head coach Mike Vrabel dating to their time together in Tennessee from 2019-21. Now a seven-year veteran, Brown registered two of his six 1,000-yard seasons as a Titan.
The Patriots or any other acquiring team would expect Brown to notch a fifth straight 1,000-yard campaign in 2026, but losing his consistently solid production would weaken a contending Eagles team. With Philadelphia expected to push for a third consecutive NFC East title next season, Roseman may be content to keep the Brown-DeVonta Smith receiver tandem intact. How do you expect this saga to play out?

Nyet
Rifle is fine
Who cares
I mean, I get the “whatever happens, happens” attitude, I really do, but there’s an obvious reason that this would be worth caring about if it happens-at least for two fanbases.
Really tired of hearing about this mfer
Maxx Crosby on line 1.
He would have been gone by now
🤦🏻♂️
It’s true
No, it’s not
There is no reality where the eagles are taking a 40 mil plus cap hit to trade him
This was never happening before June 1st, anyone who says otherwise is an idiot
He’s staying
With all that dead money and nothing close to what Howie is looking for I don’t think so. Birds have no reason and no obligation to move him. Get him the ball and he will be happy.
only if they get this:
1st rd in 26
5th rd in 26
2nd rd in 27
7th rd in 27
If he’s discontent with the offense, and they get rid of the offense, and they bring in a whole new coaching staff (the main guys are real coaches and not the assistant to the executive assistant of the quality control intern coach), and one of the reasons is to have a 4 on 1 vs the qb to force the qb to change, the same qb who he doesn’t wanna play with, then it kinda looks like they’re siding with him. So no, they’re not gonna trade him and instead it’s looks like both parties are doing the wait and see thing.
The eagles have made it clear they are just waiting until June so the finances work out
The sky is green!!! See? I can do that too
I think Eagles will keep him. Why trade him? For what? Brown is a difference maker on the field and makes Hurts a better QB. There was a good ESPN article on drama with Philly. Most of it is Hurts changing plays at the line, and refusing to take snaps under center. He’s saying yes to everything in practice, but during the games he’s doing whatever he wants. In Hurts defense, he has a different OC every season. Barkley isn’t getting younger and without Brown, that offense will struggle.
I agree with half this. All the part about why it’s painfully obvious the Eagles should not trade AJ. But that hit piece on Hurts is nothing but propaganda bullshit. People in the media will literally write anything these days. Am I the only one who pays attention to the track record of the media and how wrong they have been about literally anything going back like 8 years? Everything is made up. It’s all for clicks and money. And all the information comes and goes so fast we don’t hold anyone accountable to just straight fabrication. None of that article matches at all with anything anyone who has actually played with Jalen has ever said. Current and old teammates, name one who does not RANT AND RAVE about him. He’s a coaches son, you think he doesn’t love being coached? Basically today’s coaches are too scared to coach up players. They need immediate results so they look at the players history and try to duplicate their success, rather than adding to their arsenal. Hurts has been failed by the coaching staff (most specifically offensive design). The problem is only 2% of fans are smart enough to know this to be true, 15% of media knows what’s true but reports the opposite because it makes them money, and the other 85% are basically the same as Hollywood actors.
I’m not bashing Hurts nor do I believe what the media wants me to. But something is definitely off. Having a soured relationship with Brown is not good. That offense last season was predictably bad and it shouldn’t have been. I watched a lot of their games and wondered why they weren’t getting the ball to Brown more? Hand off to Barkley who didn’t break many runs.
As I said, Brown made great catches that made Hurts look better. He muscled balls out of the air that were up for grabs. I don’t know but at the end of the day, keep Brown. Unless they absolutely have to trade him because he wants out, they should try to keep him. The offense will suffer if he leaves.
Let me preface this by saying I’m actually one of few people who like Sirianni. I think he is a great coach for a reason that people don’t appreciate anymore (that’s a whole other comment honestly). However, his weakness is quite obviously X’s and O’s. And I’m telling you the offense since he has been here is more vanilla than most highschool offenses run. And it not a talent issue nor a Hurts issue. This goes back to what I said before, modern coaching goes so far to “play to their players strengths” that now they do literally nothing about the weaknesses. Gone are the days of coaching a player up. hurts lack of throwing over the middle of the field or “not reading progressions” is because this offense doesn’t even have progressions. If you know what you’re talking about it’s easy to see in the film. The best way to describe what the Eagles do in their passing game genuinely is backyard football. I’m hopeful this new OC finally changes that so Hurts can show the whole world he’s one of the pieces that made this absolute vile offense even work at all. There are a LOT of really talented QBs that have also had stud players around them that never came close to what Hurts has already accomplished. I’m tired of hearing he’s “carried”. You can’t be carried as an NFL QB. Anyone who thinks this or even insinuates it has the football literacy comparable to a 3 year old in a calculus class. I do not absolve him of his weaknesses, but he’s 100x better than most give him credit for
Rex Grossman was carried to the Superbowl in 2006. He had two great WRs that could catch contested balls, great RB, and very good D. Hurts is an above average NFL QB but having Brown makes him better.
I’m not saying Brown doesn’t make him better. He definitely does, but name a QB in the league that Brown wouldn’t make better haha. Rex Grossman didn’t win a superbowl. He didn’t make it to 2 in 3 years. And definitely did not play like an MVP in his Super Bowl, and obviously didn’t win a Super Bowl MVP. When you see Hurts resume and have the gall to say he’s carried, you just announce to the world you have 0 football knowledge whatsoever
Hurts cannot carry an offense. He’s good but not that good. He doesn’t make his players better like the best QBs do. Brown, Barkley, and a very good pass rush won them the SB. Him being SB MVP was a joke really. Anyone with football knowledge knew that.
There’s only about 2 QBs in the league who can carry a bad offense man. “He’s good but not that good” while we have several QBs in the league who are supposedly better who play like garbage in the playoffs. You’re moving the goalposts with each comment. He’s a great QB it’s as simple as that, and if you only read sports headlines you’d think this dude was Ryan Leaf. It’s just ridiculous
Darius Cooper is the next Deebo Samuel.
The question should probably be “how much will the Jets overpay for Brown?”.
Trade is already worked out with the Patriots. It will be announced on June 2nd ….the eagles will face Brown in the joint practices 2027 1st and 3rd round picks for him
This poll is one the CIA studies and teaches their recruits for the power of propaganda and media influence. Congrats for all those who voted accordingly hahaha
Eagles fans are gonna be bashing me, but they wouldn’t even TALK about trading him if Jalen Hurts threw the ball more👀. Just saying.
That’s on the OC because Hurts has no say in what plays are called.
Thats a good point, you’re right.
That’s apparently a huge part of the issue-Hurts frequently ignores the play that’s called, so it IS kind of him. That’s a large portion of the criticism.
I love the article picture because it makes Brown look like a fed up drill sergeant.
