FA Signings: Buccaneers, Colts, Bears, Bills

Among the big name signings flying around today, here are a few minor signings that might have slid under the radar:

  • The Buccaneers have re-signed cornerback Danny Gorrer, according to Greg Auman of TampaBay.com (via Twitter). Gorrer has bounced around the league, playing for three teams in three years before landing with the Buccaneers in 2012.
  • The Colts have agreed to a contract to retain safety Sergio Brown, reports Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun (via Twitter). Brown has played the last two seasons with the Colts.
  • The Bears have signed linebacker Jordan Senn, according to Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune (via Twitter). Senn had played the last four seasons with the Panthers.
  • The Bills have re-signed tight end Mike Caussin, according to Mark Gaughan of the Buffalo News (via Twitter). Caussin has not played in an NFL game since 2011.

Ahmad Bradshaw Re-Signs With Colts

The Colts have retained Ahmad Bradshaw, agreeing to terms on a one-year deal according to Pro Football Talk (via Twitter). Bradshaw was arguably the most talented running back on the Colts’ roster last season, but only played in three games before missing the rest of the season due to injury.

Bradshaw will join Trent Richardson and Vick Ballard in a crowded backfield, but could be a key contributor if healthy. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Redskins Sign Adam Hayward

7:13pm: Hayward gets $3MM with $300K guaranteed, tweets Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun.

4:29pm: Linebacker Adam Hayward has agreed to a three-year deal with the Redskins, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (via Twitter). The 29-year-old Hayward spent his entire career with the Buccaneers before testing the market this offseason. He has only started 13 games in Tampa Bay since his rookie year in 2007.

Malcolm Jenkins Signs With Eagles

Safety Malcolm Jenkins will join the Eagles defense in 2014, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN (via Twitter). The former first-round pick of the Saints has agreed on a three-year deal with the Eagles, worth $16.25MM. Jeff McClane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the contract includes $8.5MM in guaranteed money (via Twitter).

Jenkins was one of the second-tier safeties available, and while the Eagles have been linked to both T.J. Ward and Jairus Byrd at points this offseason, it is unclear if that will take those players out of the running.

Lions, Kevin Ogletree Agree To One-Year Deal

7:14pm: Ogletree gets a one-year deal worth $795K with $100K guaranteed and a $65K bonus (included), tweets Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun.

4:10pm: The Lions and receiver Kevin Ogletree have come to terms on a one-year deal, as reported by Pro Football Talk (via Twitter). Terms of the contract have yet to be disclosed. Ogletree began his career with the Cowboys before signing with the Buccaneers last offseason. He was released after four games, and was picked up by the Lions.

In 12 games with the Lions, the 26-year-old wideout managed 13 catches and one touchdown. The Lions will still be looking for additional help at receiver, either in free agency or the draft.

NFC North Notes: Packers, Lions, Allen, Verner

While Packers‘ free agents Sam Shields and B.J. Raji have been getting all of the attention early on this offseason, Bill Polian of ESPN writes that neither player is the top free agent the Packers must try to re-sign. According to Polian, Evan Dietrich-Smith is the free agent with the highest grade. He wrote that while Shields is a good cover corner, he is not a great tackler, and that Raji would only fit in a defense that would not require movement from its nose tackle.

Here are some other notes from around the NFC North:

  • The Lions have a need at safety, but they will not have the resources to go after a big name in free agency, writes Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com. He sees James Ihedigbo, Ryan Clark, and Donte Whitner as affordable options. Other interesting and cheap options could include Steve Gregory and Chris Clemons. If the team would like to attract a bigger name, they could look at converting either Champ Bailey or Rashean Mathis to safety from corner.
  • While Jared Allen and his agent have not talked to the Vikings about returning yet, the free agent defensive end has not ruled them out as a potential landing spot, reports Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press (via Twitter).
  • The Vikings called to gauge interest in Alterraun Verner, reports Ben Goessling of ESPN.com (via Twitter). Vikings defensive back coach Jerry Gray was previously Verner’s defensive coordinator with the Titans. The team has also expressed interest in defensive tackle Paul Soliai, according to Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN Twin Cities (via Twitter).
