OL Notes: Guyton, Beebe, Cowboys, Commanders, LT, Raiders, Packers, Patriots
Tyler Smith delivering strong early returns at two positions — left tackle, left guard — gave the Cowboys options while constructing their draft board, and Oklahoma tackle Tyler Guyton became the team’s pick. The Guyton move points to Smith staying at guard. The Cowboys are set to give the ex-Sooners right tackle every opportunity to win the starting LT job, The Athletic’s Jon Machota notes (subscription required). Teams make the inverse move more often, with the college game’s top O-linemen most frequently coming from the left tackle spot. Guyton views himself as a more natural left tackle, however, and his development there will keep well-paid RT Terence Steele in place.
Trading down from No. 24 to 29, the Cowboys picked up an extra third-rounder (No. 73). Dallas used the latter pick on Kansas State’s Cooper Beebe, and Machota adds he profiles as the team’s Tyler Biadasz center replacement. Linked to Duke center prospect Graham Barton at No. 24, the Cowboys passed with the ex-Blue Devil on the board (Barton went to the Buccaneers at No. 26). Beebe vacillated between left tackle, right tackle and left guard with the Big 12 program. While Machota notes Beebe could be an eventual Zack Martin successor, he is on track to begin his career at center.
Here is the latest from O-lines around the league:
- The Raiders are making changes on the right side of their offensive line. Right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor joined the Giants, and Greg Van Roten remains a free agent. The team used Day 2 of the draft to acquire Oregon’s Jackson Powers-Johnson (Round 2) and Maryland’s Delmar Glaze (Round 3). In all likelihood, Powers-Johnson is ticketed for a starting guard role, per The Athletic’s Vic Tafur and Tashan Reed. Glaze is set to begin his career at tackle, though GM Tom Telesco said (via ESPN.com’s Paul Gutierrez) guard work could also be in his future. Glaze will likely settle in as the Raiders’ swing tackle, according to The Athletic, though it is in play he could push Thayer Munford — who lost a position battle with Eluemunor last year — for the RT post.
- Washington made three second-round picks in this draft. The Commanders acquired a defensive tackle (Jer’Zhan Newton), a cornerback (Mike Sainristil) and a tight end (Ben Sinnott) in a busy Round 2. O-line finally came up in Round 3, with TCU’s Brandon Coleman chosen at No. 67. Projected by some as a likely candidate to slide to guard, Coleman will not make that move initially. The former national championship game starter will begin his Commanders run at tackle, ESPN.com’s John Keim notes. Coleman logged extensive time at LT and LG with the Horned Frogs, playing on the blind side during the team’s banner 2022 season. He joins a Washington team that released LT starter Charles Leno. With only swingman Cornelius Lucas in place on the left side, Coleman should have a chance to move from the third round to Jayden Daniels‘ blindside protector. Lucas (47 career starts) would be in place as insurance.
- As expected, Jordan Morgan will train at left tackle for the Packers. Matt LaFleur confirmed the No. 25 overall pick will begin his career there, and while The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman notes the team liked how 2022 seventh-rounder Rasheed Walker played in relief of David Bakhtiari, the first-round Morgan investment tips the team’s hand here. The Packers have assembled some depth post-Bakhtiari, with Andre Dillard in place as a potential swing option alongside the loser of this position battle.
- Chukwuma Okorafor and third-round Patriots pick Caedan Wallace are set to vie for the New England left tackle job. Before the draft, de facto GM Eliot Wolf said (via the Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed) Okorafor — a longtime Steelers right tackle starter — stood as the Patriots’ starting LT. This will be a rather unique battle, as Wallace played all but six college snaps at right tackle. Wolf, however, views the Penn State product as a viable LT option, ESPN.com’s Mike Reiss notes. The winner will likely be protecting Drake Maye‘s blind side at some point in 2024. Mike Onwenu is staying at right tackle.
Packers To Decline Fifth-Year Option On CB Eric Stokes
A second fifth-year option decision has been made today. Just like the Titans with fellow corner Caleb Farley, the Packers will set Eric Stokes up for free agency next offseason. The latter will have his option declined, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

Stokes was an impactful starter right away upon entering the NFL, logging 14 starts. He recorded 55 stops, 14 pass deflections and one interception that year, showcasing his potential as a long-term mainstay in the Packers’ secondary. Things have not gone according to plan on the injury front since then, however.
The 25-year-old was shut down after nine games in 2022, and in the subsequent offseason he underwent knee and foot surgeries. When healthy near the start of this past season, the Packers’ depth at corner left him outside of the starting lineup. The trade sending Rasul Douglas away at the deadline appeared to open up a first-team role once again for Stokes, but the latter wound up back on injured reserve shortly after returning to action. He finished the campaign on IR for a second time.
In all, Stokes has been limited to just 12 games across the past two years. As such, it comes as little surprise the Packers will pass on his option. Picking it up would have cost a fully-guaranteed $12.47MM in 2025, a pricey figure considering the risk of further missed time. Green Bay also has a lucrative CB commitment on the books in the form of Jaire Alexander, who is under contract through 2026.
Slot man/returner Keisean Nixon is also attached to a $6MM-per-year deal, and the Packers will wait to see how the 2024 season turns out before investing further in Stokes. The Georgia alum will compete with the likes of Corey Ballentine, Robert Rochell and seventh-round rookie Kalen King for defensive snaps in 2024. If he manages to remain healthy, a season similar to that of his rookie campaign could set Stokes up for a strong free agent market and a notable deal from Green Bay or another team. His ability to deliver on that front will be a key storyline for the team this season.

Packers Sign Eight UDFAs
After leaving this past weekend with one of the league’s largest draft classes, the Packers are continuing to add rookies to their roster. The team announced that they’ve signed eight undrafted free agents:

South Florida offensive lineman Donovan Jennings earned a significant pay day to join the Packers. The rookie got a $10K signing bonus and $100K in guaranteed salary to catch on with Green Bay, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston. As Wilson notes, that signing bonus is higher than any the organization handed out in 2023, and the Packers also didn’t give any of their UDFAs guaranteed money last offseason.
Elsewhere on offense, the team added Arizona State’s Messiah Swinson. The tight end had 15 catches during his first season in Arizona in 2022, but he followed that up with only six receptions in 2023.
On the other side of the ball, the Steelers added a pair of pass rushers in James Ester and Rodney Mathews. Ester compiled eight sacks and 16 tackles for loss during his final three seasons at Northern Illinois, while Mathews collected 14.5 tackles for loss in his final three seasons with the Bobcats.

Tulane QB Michael Pratt Goes No. 245 Overall To Packers
The 11th quarterback off the board will be Tulane passer Michael Pratt. After waiting around for six rounds, Pratt gets selected at No. 245 overall in the seventh round by the Packers.
In college, Pratt was a four-year starter for the Green Wave. He earned Freshman All-American honors in 2020, starting nine games during the COVID-19 pandemic-shortened season. His most productive season came two years later when Pratt earned second-team All-AAC honors with 3,010 passing yards, 27 passing touchdowns, and only five interceptions, adding 478 yards and 10 scores on the ground. He followed that up with first-team All-AAC and ACC Offensive Player of the Year honors, despite not matching his prior year numbers.
In Green Bay, Pratt will work to earn a role as a backup behind starter Jordan Love. Pratt’s game matches up decently with Love’s style of play, but he’ll have to compete with fellow seventh-round pick Alex McGough, who came out of Florida International in 2018, and last year’s fifth-round pick Sean Clifford out of Penn State. McGough has yet to make an NFL appearance despite getting drafted six years ago. Clifford took the primary backup position for the Packers in 2023, making two regular season, garbage time appearances as a rookie and doing the same in the team’s win over the Cowboys in the postseason.
Pratt will have an opportunity to push Clifford for the backup role. Despite his late-Day 3 selection, he was projected to go in the third or fourth round, so the talent is clearly there. If he fails to beat out Clifford, Pratt should have a decent chance to beat out McGough for a practice squad spot and a chance to be elevated on gamedays as the Packers’ emergency quarterback.
Packers Trade Up To No. 163, Draft Duke C Jacob Monk
The Packers saw the need to move up five spots in the 2024 NFL Draft today, sending the Bills pick Nos. 168 and 219 in the fifth and sixth round, respectively. The move up resulted in Green Bay adding Duke center Jacob Monk to the roster.
Monk was a five-year starter for the Blue Devils, utilizing his extra year of eligibility thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic-shortened season. He started 58 of 59 game appearances during his time at Duke. Not only does he bring extensive starting experience, but he also brings experience all along the right side of the offensive line. After starting all 12 of his freshman year games at right tackle, he spent the next two years starting at right guard before splitting his time over his last two seasons between right guard and center.
The Packers have Josh Myers as their starting center as the last three years. He’s never graded out phenomenally, according to Pro Football Focus, but he’s not bad enough that Monk should be expected to start in 2024. Monk likely comes in as a backup center and a sixth-man on the offensive line.
Due to his versatility at Duke, Monk has the ability to fill in in a pinch at any position on the line as a backup. If he develops strongly over the next year, there’s a chance that he can take over for Myers, who is playing in a contract year. This gives Green Bay a year to determine its plan at center moving past the 2024 season.
Packers Acquire No. 111, Select Oregon S Evan Williams
The Packers and Jets have been frequent trade partners in recent years, and the teams have pulled off another deal. The Packers have jumped to No. 111, with New York acquiring picks No. 126 and No. 190.
The Packers will use their new pick on Oregon safety Evan Williams. There’s been a run on Ducks players today, with Williams representing the fourth Oregon player to be selected in the fourth round.
After leading the Fresno State defense for four seasons, Williams transferred to Oregon for the 2023 campaign. He proceeded to earn second team All-Pac-12 honors after compiling 82 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. While the defensive back didn’t posses the same upside as other prospects at the position, his defensive savvy should keep him on NFL rosters.
The Packers have been one of the more active teams through the first two days of the draft, selecting five rookies. The team added Georgia’s Javon Bullard in the second round, and the two rookies will join a new-look safeties room that also features new addition Xavier McKinney.
Saints Obtain No. 41 From Packers, Select CB Kool-Aid McKinstry
The second-round pick the Packers acquired in last year’s Aaron Rodgers trade is now the Saints’ property. Green Bay dealt No. 41 to New Orleans, which will add Nos. 45, 168, and 190 for moving down a bit in Round 2.
No. 45 is the pick the Saints obtained from the Broncos in the swap for Sean Payton‘s rights. A year later, the Packers (barring another trade) will use it to bolster their roster.

With the pick, the Saints are adding Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry. This will bring two Crimson Tide corners off the board, with the Lions using their first selection on Terrion Arnold on Thursday night.
McKinstry loomed as a first-round-caliber player going into his final Alabama season after logging 16 passes defensed as a sophomore, but Arnold ended up being viewed as the higher-level prospect following Nick Saban‘s final season.
The fall out of the first round for McKinstry seems to center around the lack of any elite qualities. Still, while there doesn’t see to be any much that McKinstry is elite at, there’s also not much that he does poorly (besides fielding punts). McKinstry does everything well with a high football IQ.
McKinstry will fit well into a talented rotation at cornerback in New Orleans. With Marshon Lattimore and Paulson Adebo set to return as the team’s starters at the position, McKinstry will get to learn and develop under one of the league’s better veterans and a young corner who established himself as a Day 2 pick three years ago. The Saints’ depth at the position isn’t great after Lattimore and Adebo, so trading up to add McKinstry makes sense in the midst of a run of second-round cornerbacks.
