Cardinals LT Paris Johnson Expected To Miss Time
Cardinals left tackle Paris Johnson is expected to miss time due to a sprained MCL, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Johnson, 24, left Sunday’s game against the Rams and did not return. He was replaced by undrafted rookie Josh Fryar, who has become a regular figure in Arizona’s offense in the last month. He has played 87 snaps in the last four weeks, including a Week 11 start at right tackle, per Pro Football Focus (subscription required). Fryar will likely start in Johnson’s place in Week 15 if the 2023 first-round pick cannot go.
Johnson has been one of the few consistent bright spots for the Cardinals offense in 2025. He played every snap until he injured his knee and his 76.6 grade from PFF is second on the team to tight end Trey McBride.
The injury does not seem to be serious enough to justify a long-term absence, and the Cardinals may even see how Johnson looks in practice this week before ruling him out for their next game against the Texans. Houston’s pass rush has been fierce this season, and Johnson would have played a major role in slowing down Danielle Hunter on the blind side.
The third-year offensive tackle has made a strong case for his fifth-year option to be picked up this offseason. Johnson has already reached the second-tier price of $19.95MM based on his playtime, per OverTheCap, and a Pro Bowl nod would push his 2027 cost to $24.63MM. He is currently leading fan voting for the Pro Bowl, per Rapoport, but he will need support from players and coaches to add that extra $4.68MM to his earning potential.
Johnson will also be eligible for a long-term extension this offseason. He played left tackle during his final year at Ohio State but struggled when flipped to the right side in Arizona. Johnson moved back to left tackle in 2024 and has put together two solid seasons, which should position him for a strong extension in the next two years. The left tackle market is now well over $25MM per year for the best players, and Johnson’s age and potential could have him knocking on that door in long-term contract talks.
Cardinals RT Jonah Williams To Undergo Season-Ending Surgery
Cardinals right tackle Jonah Williams will miss the rest of the 2025 season after undergoing shoulder surgery, head coach Jonathan Gannon announced on Friday (via ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss).
Williams, 28, started the Cardinals’ first nine games of the season before going down in Week 10. Kelvin Beachum closed out the game, but picked up a groin injury. He still started in Week 11, but had to be replaced by Josh Fryar. Beachum has missed practice all week, which will likely position Fryar, an undrafted rookie, for his first career start.
Williams is set to hit free agency this offseason, and he seems like a long shot to re-sign in Arizona. The Cardinals gave him a two-year, $30MM contract in 2024 after four years in Cincinnati, but since then, Williams has only started 15 games. He was excellent in 2024, allowing just seven pressures and zero sacks in six games, per Pro Football Focus (subscription required). This year, he took a step back this year with 21 pressures and three sacks allowed through nine games. Williams’ contract will void on February 20, per OverTheCap, which will leave $7MM in dead money on the Cardinals’ salary cap.
The Cardinals seem headed towards a major shake-up this offseason after hopes of a 2025 bounce-back quickly gave way to disappointment over a losing record. Among their needs will be a new right tackle. No obvious long-term candidate is on the roster, though Fryar or Demontrey Jacobs could both have opportunities to audition this year.
Arizona also signed practice squad running back Jermar Jefferson to the active roster and filled his spot with running back Sincere McCormick, per team reporter Darren Urban. Those moves suggest that Trey Benson, who is on injured reserve with his practice window opened, is not ready to be activated and will not play on Sunday against the Jaguars.
Cardinals Add Six UDFAs
Six of the Cardinals’ seven draft picks were devoted to the defensive side of the ball. Arizona has now made the following additions in the form of undrafted free agent signings:

- Elijah Simmons, DL (Tennessee)
- Josh Fryar, OL (Ohio State)
- Bryson Green, WR (Wisconsin)
- Oscar Cardenas, TE (UTSA)
- Valentin Senn, OL (UConn)
After the draft – during which only one addition was made to the unit – general manager Monti Ossenfort made it clear move moves along the offensive line would be coming. To no surprise, half of Arizona’s UDFA class is made up of blockers. Senn is among the players who received the largest financial commitments amongst undrafted rookies. The Austrian landed a $40K signing bonus along with $234K of his base salary being guaranteed, KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson reports.
Fryar also secured a notable guarantee total from Arizona, per Wilson. The four-year Buckeye received $35K up front coupled with the same $234K salary guarantee. Fryar and Senn will both look to carve out a depth role on the Cardinals’ 53-man roster during training camp. One or both could find themselves on the practice squad if they are among the team’s final roster cuts.
Green spent two seasons at Oklahoma State before transferring to Wisconsin. The 6-2, 215-pounder was unable to parlay his size into a season with notable production at either program, but over the course of his career he averaged 14.7 yards per reception. Wilson reports Green received $264K in total guarantees to head to Arizona for the offseason.
