Trevor Lawrence Tests Positive For COVID-19

Clemson star quarterback Trevor Lawrence has tested positive for COVID-19, according to’s Mike Garafolo (on Twitter). Lawrence, who projects as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, will be out of action for Saturday’s game at Boston College. His availability beyond this week will hinge on his condition and forthcoming tests.

A two-time starter in national championship games, Lawrence took the reins for the Tigers midway through his freshman season in 2018. The former five-star recruit has been on the No. 1 overall pick radar ever since. Between ’18 and ’19, the 6-foot-6 passer threw an eye-popping 66 touchdown against just 12 interceptions. As a sophomore, Lawrence became a key rushing presence for the ACC power, gaining 563 yards on the ground and scoring nine TDs.

Recently, the QB surprised many by saying that he might consider returning for another season.

My mindset has been that I’m going to move on, but who knows? There’s a lot of things that could happen,” Lawrence said Tuesday during his media session. “… We’ll just have to see how things unfold. There’s a lot of factors in that. But honestly, just really playing this year. Putting everything I have into it. Not really focusing on next year whether I leave or stay. Obviously, I have the option to do either one.”

Meanwhile, head coach Dabo Swinney expects to lose his star player to the pros.

I mean, we’ll certainly let him stay if that’s what he wants to do. I’d be surprised if he’s back with the Tigers next year, but who knows?,” Swinney said earlier today, before the news of the positive test (Twitter link via Rich Cimini of ESPN).

There was already talk about him coming back his senior year and then coming out for the 2022 draft

First he waffles on the draft. Now, he intentionally gets Covid.

Soon, he’ll be faking his own death to avoid playing for the Jets.

How come the comments for Justin Turner’s positive test were turned off and these were left on?

soxfan1 It’s not the same person making and posting every article on the site. The person could just forget to close the comments section, or it’s their own choice whether to close them or not.

Plus things are much more likely to get ugly over on the MLBTR part of the site then here, because there’s usually a lot more people commenting over there then here, making it more trouble to moderate.

I’d guess because of Turner going back out and celebrating without a mask even after getting his results. The comments would probably be an interesting read with politics getting tossed in.

Lawrence should pull an Elway and simply say there is no way he’d ever play for the Jets.

wow you know your team has become the laughing stock and all the sports when the most highly rated quarterback and close to a decade goes out and purposely catches covid-19 just so he’s not drafted by you. (I know he really did not go out and get it purposely it was more of a joke I don’t want any of the seriousness police come and take me away cuz someone can’t take a joke) but it is still screwed up when one of the best quarterbacks in almost a decade or it comes out and says he’s going to enter the draft then all the sudden he sees your team is owing seven and doesn’t look like there’s a chance that they’re not going to have the number one pick that all of a sudden he says halfway through the season did he might stay in school that’s how far the Jets have fallen
