Multiple teams are expected to contact the 49ers before and during the draft to inquire about the availability of Jimmy Garoppolo. However, as of this writing, the chances of him being traded are “remote,” one source tells ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter (on Twitter). 
The 49ers have insisted that Garoppolo will be their quarterback in 2021. Beyond that, of course, they’ll likely shift the responsibilities to whoever they select with the No. 3 overall pick. Things are further complicated by Jimmy G’s no-trade clause. Any team acquiring him would want a restructured contract, but Garoppolo can spike a deal if the terms aren’t to his liking.
“The biggest thing with Jimmy is his injuries,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said recently. “It’s been very tough for us when he’s been hurt. This happened two of these three years. That’s where it starts. Jimmy knows that. I’ve been very up front with him with everything…When you take a rookie quarterback and you take a veteran like Jimmy who we know we can win with, just to move on from that is something that’s not easy to do. That is a good situation for us and I think that is something that’ll be important to us this year.”
Last year, the Niners went 3-3 in the six games Garoppolo started. In total, he completed 67.1% of his passes for 1,096 yards and seven touchdowns against five interceptions. That’s a far cry from his best work two years ago, when he he racked up 3,978 passing yards and 27 TDs against 13 INTs.
Let’s face the music guys, how much do you really think he would bring after last years very poor performance and his history for injury? Where ever he ends up he needs to find a higher gear, cause what he has shown lately is not getting it period!
The injury bug is the bigger concern. You have to remember, the starting offense only played together for 5 quarters last year. Its hard to judge performance when that many players are out.
I find it funny that the mastermind’s hand picked QB just isn’t up to to snuff, so now he gets another ‘handpicked’ QB. I look forward to seeing 9’ers fans run to Kyle’s defense when the next guy flops as well.
well Jimmy is good when not injuried so the hand picked worked but it’s hard to know that injuries will pop up when the guy had one injury prior to them getting him and wasn’t injury prone in college.
Hand picked is a stretch there arty! Jimmy G has always been a convenient QB for KS. It’s very widely known that he wanted Cousins.
You do realize that the 9’ers TRADED for Jimmy right!?! How is that not considered a hand picked player? And if Kyle really wanted Cousins, then it shows how bad of a talent evaluator he is.
Kyle worked with Cousins for several years where Cousins developed from third-rate QB to first-rate garbage time QB. The problem with Cousins isn’t his talent, it’s his leadership and his tendency to choke under pressure. The really good ones play better when the pressure is on: Montana, Brady, Brees, even the Manning brothers (who aren’t all that good in normal games).
Peyton Manning wasn’t all that good in normal games? What in the world are you talking about? If anything, he was better in the regular season than in the playoffs.
Well Kyle the one that help draft cousin to the league when Kyle was oc for the skins. So why wouldn’t Kyle want his guy.

Yeah ill bite. The 49ers were something like 0-9 or 1-9 at the time i believe they acquired jimmy g. Well 2 years later they were in the superbowl and winning late in the 4th quarter. Id say their handpicked QB worked out pretty well for them.
Ill just propose a general question. If i asked you, would you trade a 2nd round pick, so that you could lose in the superbowl 2 years later, would you do it? There are about 30 of the 32 teams that would say yes to that.
Or how about, would you consider your teams turnaround a success if you went from picking in the top 5, to losing in the superbowl 2 years later?
This is like suggesting that Trent Dilfer “led” the Ravens to a super bowl or Rex Grossman “led” the Bears to a super bowl appearance. Jimmy G ain’t leading you anywhere, a top 5 defense and legit weapons around him was the engine that led the 9ers to a SB appearance.
as much as i am not a brady fan. Compare the “goat” Brady’s last year as a patriot weapons vs 49’ers weapons last year that Jimmy G had. Outside of Kittle (who was injured a bunch) and what did he have?
You should note that Kyle is 1-4 for season records. That’s not good. That’s not building a winning program; that’s fireable.
Kyle winning precent is .453, Mike Singletary’s was .450.

Jimmy will get moved over the summer if the rook shows enough of a grip on the playbook.

Damn, so Lynch and Shanahan passed on Mahomes for Solomon F’n Thomas just so they could give up trade capital to get Jimmy G and now they’ve given up a F*** ton of draft capital to REPLACE Jimmy G AND they gave him a no trade clause to boot. I don’t trust this FO, not even sort of. If they did all this just to grab Mac Jones…. ima lose my sh**. I’m not a happy fan right now.
You can say that about alot of teams that pass up homes. I don’t get this argument. Because no one said he would be this good. So you can’t say if 49ers drafted him he be this good. Since homes got to sit behind smith and has one of the best coaches in Reid

I’d normally agree, but that “no-trade” thing might introduce a time factor… The Niners might have run out of the time it would take to navigate the logistics. I’d imagine Garoppolo and whoever he was being traded to would need some time to banter back and forth.
They could ask Jimmy before the draft if there are teams he would go to no questions asked. For example, he may want to go back to the patriots and be under bill.
