Anthony Richardson lost out to Daniel Jones for the Colts’ starting quarterback competition. His future with the team has been questioned as a result, in part due to comments made the former No. 4 pick’s agent about a lack of trust from the organization.

In the wake of those remarks, a meeting between Richardson’s agent (Deiric Jackson) and general manager Chris Ballard recently took place. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports the parties met in person last week, with Jackson describing the talks as “very constructive.” The possibility of a trade was discussed, but no request for a change of scenery was issued during the conversation.
Of course, Ballard has publicly committed to keeping Richardson in the fold for 2025. A tepid trade market would no doubt exist given the 23-year-old’s struggles so far in the NFL. Richardson has made just 15 starts through his first two seasons with the Colts, dealing with a number of injuries along the way. When on the field, he has struggled with inconsistency in the passing game (50.6% career completion percentage) while showcasing potential in terms of rushing production.
For now, at least, Jones is set to handle starting duties. The former Giant received over $13MM fully guaranteed from the Colts in free agency, a strong indication he would get the nod early in the campaign. A consistent showing under center through the opening weeks of the season would be welcomed by all involved, including a Colts regime seeking a long-term answer at the QB spot. Only signed through 2025, Jones is unlikely to fit the bill, but he could buy time for Richardson to develop without seeing game time.
The Florida product will be the subject of a fifth-year option decision next spring. If it is declined, Richardson’s rookie deal will expire after the 2026 campaign. Plenty of time remains for a call on that front to be made, but a mutual desire currently exists for a parting of ways to be avoided.
“Why, is someone asking? What did they say about me?”
“Otherwise, Im 100 percent committed to being a Colt for life,… until someone is interested.”
“The devil you know” lmao
Richardson’s shortest path to starting again is to stay in Indy. I highly doubt Daniel Jones will be the next Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, or Geno Smith. I suspect Richardson will be starting games this year for the Colts.
Agreed. Jones has had his share of injuries throughout his career. I would be surprised if he makes it through the entire season uninjured.
Id probably still argue he should be playing first, and then DJ by like week 6 or so.
Not saying you’ll be wrong, but I wouldn’t write him off. Seems like a notable trend of late, I’d even add Goff to the mix.
Too many teams start rookie QBs instead of letting them learn from the bench, then are surprised that their confidence gets crushed until they find a well-run team with a good coach. Maybe half a season with O’Connell helped?
Jones will be injured or benched at some point this season, so you’re right. Best thing for AR to do is prepare himself and be ready.
If Jones gets benched it’s for Leonard. They know what they have in AR.
That’s absurd. They invested a high first and a lot of money in AR. AR would be the first one off the bench. If/when he fails, then they’ll give Leonard a shot.
Richardson was terrible at Florida, picked 4th in the draft, and is now stinking up Indianapolis. If anyone on the Colts coaching staff had bothered to watch tape on Big Tony they would have seen a guy who throws passes in the dirt, panics and runs if his primary receiver is covered, and couldn’t recognize a defensive set up if his life depended on it. He would make the same mistakes week in and week out despite coaches working with him. And on top of that we were supposed to applaud his “effort” and his “dedication” because he told us to. He should be labeled a lost cause and unceremoniously shown the door. This is just my opinion, but it is shared by a huge number of Gator fans
Kid needs a fresh start…Colts need to trade him….
Perhaps he could get a fresh start as a pace car driver at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Every GM knows the Colts will eventually release him so why would they make a trade offer?
Tell Riley Leonard to start warming up.
