Colts Meet With LB Korey Toomer

The Colts are meeting with linebacker Korey Toomer on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets. Toomer has spent the last two seasons with the Chargers but is now exploring free agency.

Toomer came to the Bolts in 2016 when he was signed off of the Raiders’ practice squad. Since then, he has racked up 125 tackles for the Chargers. The Chargers retained Toomer with a $1.797MM low tender last season but, this time around, he’s likely looking at a pay bump.

After Jonathan Bostic signed with the Steelers and Barkevious Mingo joined up with the Dolphins, the Colts are looking at a little thin at linebacker. They’ll have opportunities to add to the unit in the draft – particularly after trading down with the Jets and scoring two additional second picks – but Toomer would represent a proven veteran option.

In 2017, Toomer racked up 48 tackles, one sack, and one interception returned for a touchdown in 15 games.

Colts, WR Ryan Grant Nearing Deal

[UPDATE: The Colts have agreed to sign Grant]

The Colts are nearing a deal with free agent wide receiver Ryan Grant, according to Mike Chappell ‏of CBS4 (on Twitter). The news was first reported by former NFL wide receiver James Jones (Twitter link), who appears to have a pipeline on signings as of late.

Grant agreed to a four-year deal with the Ravens on the first day of free agency, but that contract was voided due to a failed physical. The Ravens immediately signed fellow free agent wide receiver Michael Crabtree, so one has to wonder if Grant’s physical really raised red flags or if the Ravens simply jumped at an opportunity to add a more accomplished pass-catcher. For what it’s worth, Grant’s agent says there isn’t much of an issue.

If there were a game tomorrow, Ryan would be able to play,” the agent said earlier this month.

Grant, a former fifth-round pick, broke out with 45 receptions for 573 yards and four touchdowns with Washington in 2017. The Raiders also met with Grant, but it appears that he is Indy-bound.

Jets To Meet With Terrelle Pryor

The Jets will meet with Terrelle Pryor this week, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. His visit will take place after his current meeting with the Seahawks wraps up.

Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson is doing his best to help bring Pryor to the fold, but the Jets have more dollars to spend. The Rams also have some interest in Pryor and the Browns may be interested in a reunion.

If Pryor is looking at another one-year prove-it deal, he may see Seattle as his best opportunity to re-establish himself as a high-end wide receiver. Then again, the Seahawks did sign Jaron Brown in the wake of Paul Richardson‘s departure, so there might not be a huge role waiting for him in Seattle.

Meanwhile, things are pretty wide open for the Jets. Quincy Enunwa figures to return under the second-round tender, but it remains to be seen how he’ll perform following last year’s neck injury. Robby Anderson, Jermaine Kearse, Jalin Marshall, and ArDarius Stewart are on hand, but Pryor could join the Jets as one of their top pass-catching options, particularly with tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins out of the picture.

Giants To Re-Sign Kerry Wynn

The Giants have agreed to re-sign Kerry Wynn, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com (on Twitter). It’s a one-year deal for the defensive lineman.

Wynn has been with the Giants for his entire NFL career, dating back to when he entered the league as an undrafted free agent. However, his return was not assured due to the presence of new defensive coordinator James Bettcher. There was some thought that he would not fit well in the former Arizona DC’s 3-4 scheme, but the Giants apparently believe that he can make the transition.

Wynn appeared in 15 games last season, including three starts. He finished out with 19 tackles and a sack.

The Giants also plan on meeting with defensive lineman Josh Mauro, who has history with Bettcher.

Cowboys Host LaAdrian Waddle On Visit

The Cowboys are hosting LaAdrian Waddle on a visit, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter). He joins fellow Patriots free agent tackle Cameron Fleming who is also meeting with Dallas.

The Pats are hoping to retain one or both tackles, particularly after losing Nate Solder in free agency to the Giants. The Cowboys, meanwhile, are looking to reinforce their already powerful offensive line.

Dallas seems pretty set with Tyron Smith and La’el Collins at the tackle spots, but Waddle or Fleming could be slotted in at right tackle, allowing La’el Collins to shift back to left guard. That would push former third-round pick Chaz Green back to a reserve role and leave Dallas with a starting five of Smith, Collins, Travis Frederick, Zack Martin, and Waddle or Fleming. It’d be hard for any other team to top that.

If the Cowboys are intent on keeping Collins at tackle, it’d probably be tough to lure Fleming in as a backup, but Waddle could be receptive to a reserve role. In 2017, Fleming played 543 total snaps and graded as the league’s No. 24 offensive tackle, per Pro Football Focus. Waddle, meanwhile, played 380 snaps, and was PFF’s No. 64 offensive tackle.

Rams Re-Sign Dominique Easley

The Rams are re-signing defensive tackle Dominique Easley on a one-year deal, a source tells Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter). Terms of the deal are not yet known.

Easley, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Patriots. So far, his career has not gone according to plan due to health issues. He has suffered three torn ACLs since 2011 and has not seen the field since the 2016 season.

If he can stay healthy, however, he can be a high-level contributor in Wade Phillips‘ 3-4 defense. He’ll support a Rams defensive line unit that starts Aaron Donald, Michael Brockersand Ethan Westbrooks – or potentially work his way into the starting lineup. That group could get even stronger if Ndamukong Suh‘s visit goes well this week.

Ndamukong Suh To Meet With Rams

The Rams are set to meet with Ndamukong Suh, according to Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports (on Twitter). Suh recently visited with the Titans and Saints, but has not signed with either club.

The Rams defense already looks terrifying with a projected starting lineup featuring the likes of defensive linemen Aaron Donald and Michael Brockers, cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib (not to mention Kayvon Webster and Nickell Robey-Coleman), free safety LaMarcus Joyner, strong safety John Johnson, and linebacker Mark Barron. The addition of Suh could push Ethan Westbrooks out of the picture, but that likely wouldn’t deter L.A. from signing him.

Last year, Suh graded out as Pro Football Focus’ No. 4 interior defensive lineman in the NFL in 2017, and he finished the season with 48 tackles and 4.5 sacks. He recently turned 31, but he remains one of the league’s most fearsome defensive linemen.

In other Rams news, L.A. is working to re-sign former first round defensive lineman Dominique Easley.

Chargers To Sign K Caleb Sturgis

The Chargers are expected to sign former Eagles kicker Caleb Sturgis, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. The Eagles had interest in re-signing him, but he’s headed to sunny Los Angeles instead.

The Chargers were on the lookout for a new kicker this year and also considered former Raider Sebastian Janikowski. Sturgis is more than a decade younger, but both are coming off of lost seasons. Janikowski didn’t kick at all while Sturgis’ Week 1 hip injury knocked him out of action for the rest of the year.

The Bolts ran through four kickers last season and they’re hoping to use just one – Sturgis – in 2018.

Raiders Sign CB Shareece Wright

The Raiders have signed Shareece Wright to a one-year deal. The cornerback personally announced the news on his Instagram account and the deal has been confirmed by Michael Gehlken of the Review Journal (on Twitter).

Wright will serve as cornerback depth in Oakland. There, he’ll reunite with safety Marcus Gilchrist, who signed with the Raiders this week. Both players were in the same Chargers draft class in 2011 and spent four years together.

Wright appeared in 12 games for the Bills last season and started in five of those contests. He finished out with 42 tackles, one interception, and five passes defensed.

Packers Sign Bears’ Kyle Fuller To Offer Sheet

The Packers have signed Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller to an offer sheet, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune tweets. The Bears placed the transition tag on Fuller, so Chicago will have five days to match. The Bears tried to keep Fuller in place with a one-year, $12.9MM placeholder, but they may lose the former first-round pick to a rival.

While the franchise tag entitles the incumbent team to two first-round draft picks in the event of a player leaving, the transition tag grants a club only the right of first refusal. The upside to the transition tag is that it is slightly cheaper. The franchise tag for cornerbacks this year was nearly $15MM.

Last year, Fuller racked up 68 tackles and ranked as PFF’s No. 22 ranked cornerback over notable names like Ronald DarbyByron MaxwellJason McCourtyRichard Sherman. However, it wasn’t exactly smooth sailing over the three previous seasons. The former No. 14 overall selection did well as a rookie in 2014 and followed that up with a decent showing in 2015, but his entire 2016 campaign was lost due to a knee injury. The Bears had the option of keeping Fuller under the fifth-year option for just $8.526MM. In hindsight, it’s a move they regret.

The Packers may lose cornerback/safety Morgan Burnett and Davon House to free agency, so they’re in need of some help in the secondary. Fuller would represent a major upgrade over both and would become the team’s top cornerback with Kevin King guarding the opposition’s No. 2 wide receiver.

An unknown team also attempted to sign Fuller to an offer sheet, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter) hears, but one that was not accepted.
