Dolphins Re-Sign Tank Carradine
In a series of corresponding moves, the Dolphins announced earlier this morning that they had signed defensive end Tank Carradine and placed defensive end Jonathan Ledbetter on injured reserve.
Carradine was part of the Dolphins’ final cuts back in August after he started three of four preseason games and registered only a single tackle. The former 49ers 2013 second-round draft pick has failed to live up to his draft status thus far, totaling 77 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and one forced fumble in 45 career games. Since Carradine was released before Week 1, the Dolphins were not required to guarantee his salary of $880K for the 2019 season.
Ledbetter, an undrafted free agent from Georgia, signed with the Dolphins back in May, and started for the organization in last week’s ugly loss against the Ravens. Ledbetter played well in the contest, however, making four tackles and registering half a sack, while playing 66% of the team’s defensive snaps.
Dolphins OT Julien Davenport To Miss Time
Acquired by the Dolphins in the Laremy Tunsil trade, offensive tackle Julien Davenport is going to miss time with his new club. Davenport suffered a hyperextended knee and small crack in his tibia during practice and will be sidelined for several weeks, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (Twitter link). Davenport may be placed on injured reserve, but he’d be a contender to return later this season.
Neither Davenport nor Miami left tackle Jesse Davis played particularly well in the Dolphins’ embarrassing Week 1 loss to the Ravens, as Pro Football Focus graded both linemen as bottom-10 tackles. Now, with Davenport out, the Dolphins will rely on recently-signed journeyman J’Marcus Webb to take over on the right side.
Davenport, a fourth-round pick of the Texans in the 2017 draft, started 19 games for Houston over his first two seasons in the NFL. He was packaged alongside two first-round picks, a second-round pick, and defensive back Johnson Bademosi in the deal that sent Tunsil, wide receiver Kenny Stills, and fourth- and sixth-round selections to the Texans.
The Dolphins aren’t necessarily attempting to compete, and their offensive line is among the weakest areas on a bare-bones roster. In Week 1, the unit ranked dead last in adjusted line yards and 19th in adjusted sack rate, per Football Outsiders.
Dolphins Fielding Trade Calls
- Marcus Cannon left Sunday night’s Patriots win because of a shoulder injury and may miss time. New England’s starting right tackle underwent tests this week, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, who adds this injury is not believed to be a long-term setback. Cannon is practicing on a limited basis. Guard Joe Thuney moved to right tackle against the Steelers, but Reiss adds swing tackle Korey Cunningham may draw that assignment against the Dolphins (Twitter links). Cunningham was inactive in Week 1. The Pats just signed Marshall Newhouse as well, pointing to a possible Cannon absence in Miami.
- Teams have been monitoring the Dolphins‘ situation regarding trades, and Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports notes GMs have been calling Chris Grier about potential deals. The Dolphins have traded Laremy Tunsil, Kenny Stills, Ryan Tannehill and Robert Quinn this year. However, there is not much left in terms of trade assets on the roster, at least among players the Dolphins would be willing to deal.

Jets Claim DL Jordan Willis, Send Quincy Enunwa To IR
The Jets have claimed DL Jordan Willis off of waivers, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter (Twitter link). New York is placing WR Quincy Enunwa on IR in order to accommodate the move.
Willis was a third-round of the Bengals back in 2017 and he played in 32 games during his time with the club. The Jets weren’t the only team to put in a waiver claim for Willis. The Dolphins also tried to land the defensive lineman, Field Yates of ESPN tweets.
Enunwa has a neck injury and was deemed out for the year so the news to place him on injured reserve comes as no surprise. The franchise recently traded for Demaryius Thomas to add to their depth at wide receiver.

Dolphins Workout Former Lions Second-Rounder CB Teez Tabor
Teez Tabor is getting another look. The corner back who was recently released by the Lions had a workout with the Dolphins on Tuesday, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network (Twitter link).
Tabor was a second-round pick in 2017, but he flamed out quickly and lasted just two seasons in Detroit. Tabor made one start as a rookie and four last year, but consistently struggled. He was quickly labeled a bust, and it was clear that Matt Patricia’s coaching staff wasn’t too high on him. The 53rd overall pick of the 2017 draft, Tabor was a first-team All-SEC selection in each of his last two years at Florida, but never lived up to his billing.
Because of his draft status, he’ll likely get another shot somewhere soon whether it’s with the Dolphins or someone else. Miami is in the midst of a full-blown rebuild and will likely be taking looks at as many young players as possible to try and find some gems for the future, so their interest makes sense. The Dolphins have Xavien Howard locked up longterm, but not too much behind him at corner.
Dolphins’ Xavien Howard Not Seeking Trade
After a brutal 59-10 pummeling at the hands of the Ravens, several Dolphins players have already requested trades. However, cornerback Xavien Howard is not one of the players looking to bail, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald (on Twitter) hears.
Despite their rebuilding efforts, the Dolphins have told Howard that they value him. In turn, Howard has said he wants to stay, even though this figures to be a long season for a club that has traded left tackle Laremy Tunsil and jettisoned other key veterans.
This year, the Dolphins re-upped Howard on a five year, $75.25MM extension with $27.18MM fully guaranteed at signing and $46MM in total guarantees. That is to say – Howard might not win much with the Fins in 2019, but he’ll be paid handsomely.
Things won’t get much easier from here for the Dolphins. They’ve had success against the Patriots at home, but no one is anticipating an upset win in Miami on Sunday. After that, they’ll travel to Dallas to take on one of the league’s most dangerous offenses.
Multiple Dolphins Players Request Trades
The Dolphins’ season got off to a disastrous start as they were pummeled by the Ravens 59-10. The loss was ugly, but things apparently got even worse after the game.
Multiple Dolphins players reached out to their agents following the loss and asked them to get them traded out of Miami, a source told Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com. It’s the last thing this Dolphins team needed, as the organization is going through a tumultuous time. We had heard there would be a “revolt” in the locker room if the team traded away left tackle Laremy Tunsil, and that appears to be materializing now that Tunsil has been moved.
Just about everybody has accused the Dolphins of intentionally tanking the 2019 season, although rookie head coach Brian Flores has been steadfast in his denials. Florio writes that “the players believe that the coaching staff, despite claiming that they intend to try to win, aren’t serious about competing and winning.” It’s unclear which players are involved, although it’d presumably be the team’s few remaining veterans. For what it’s worth, the Dolphins told Florio that they haven’t heard of any trade requests, yet.
Miami has been sending their older players packing at a rapid rate, and they’re now the youngest team in the league. They started Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback, but he was replaced in the second half by Josh Rosen. However, after the game, Flores said he’ll be starting Fitzpatrick again next week at home against the Patriots. The Dolphins have had a ton of success at home against New England in recent years, but they’ll clearly need to figure out their internal issues before they can get things sorted on the field.
